  • @GiratinaofFury

    In other words, Lisa decides to enrich others, rather than just herself. She begins to bond with people and develop leadership skills, rather than focussing entirely on her own accomplishments, and it ends up rewarding her greatly. That's not to say college would have been a waste of time, there were members of the extended Simpson family who went to college and went on to bigger and better things, but I think having the pressure just blindsided her.

    • @eduardoaguilar3421
      @eduardoaguilar3421 Před 3 měsíci +66

      You're right in everything you said, but I wonder what was Lisa going to study, because when you said "That's not to say college would have been a waste of time", I remembered that college isn't a waste of time as long as she was going to study something related to health, engineering, economics or law, because in case she was going to study something like art or photography, then she dodged a bullet.

    • @GiratinaofFury
      @GiratinaofFury Před 3 měsíci +53

      @@eduardoaguilar3421 That's an interesting point - despite being a straight A student, and her extra curricular activities, we don't know what, if anything, she wants to pursue or what area she excels at. She seems more interested in the idea of college and the culture of life on campus than she is actually finding a degree in something. Knowing her, she may take environmental sciences, political sciences, or law, but then she's never really shown indications as to what she specifically wants, only that she wants to be seen as remarkable.

    Not gonna lie, something like that is actually a good way of redeem her, Bart also got a good part of the cake.
    So both of them are good and productive part of the society and try to help their family, Bart didn't need something for lisa but he still tried to reunite her with their mother.

    Lisa really is destined for success. Also, I think the main reason Marge was so disappointed is because of how excited and determined LISA was for college growing up. Seeing her daughter suddenly give up on her dreams on a panicked whim probably hurt.

    So, the official canon for future Bart and Lisa is:
    -Bart gets the chance to go to college, but decides to let Lisa keep the opportunity instead
    -Lisa goes to university for a short period, likely drops out after her marriage plans fall through
    -Marge and Homer separate for a period, but get back together
    -Bart finds success for a while
    -Lisa spends time educating others until she becomes president
    -Bart loses it all and starts a band with Ralph Wiggum, which also ends up failing
    Bart and Jenda apparently get married and have kids at one point, as do Lisa and Millhouse. President Lisa seems to take place long after both split from their respective partner.

    Yeesh, Marge was a terrible hypocrite in this episode. She pressured her own daughter to the point of burning out and losing interest in college the same way she did and them ghosted her for decades. Kind of shows how Marge is the complete opposite of Homer to another extreme. Her love is almost conditional shes so obsessed with her kids living up to a certain standard
