I love how they're playing around with tempo live. They played the intro slower than usual, making it sound way more menacing, and it built hype a lot better. Then they sped up to normal tempo for the verses and such before slowing way down during the breakdown. Insane how such small changes can bring more energy to this already hype song. I also love the extra bits Brooks adds to the breakdown. Keeping the closed hi hat going continuously sounds amazing, then that splash (I think?) cymbal hit on every downbeat adds some much needed movement. I really want to hear Brooks play Scream, just to hear what he creative liberties he takes during a live performance. I know Jimmy would play quarter notes on the hi hat instead of 16th notes, and that made everything flow so nicely live.
PREPARE FOR A VERY LONG EXPLANATION ON M. SHADOWS AND HIS SCREAMING AND WHY HE CAN STILL SCREAM BUT CANNOT SCREAM THE WAY HE USED TO. TAKE WHAT I SAY HOWEVER YOU WANT BUT I CAN SAY THAT I HAVE PERFORMED AND STUDIED SCREAMING FOR WELL OVER 8 YEARS NOW. JUDGE MY GRAMMAR AS I DON'T GIVE A FUCK. I MAY NOT KNOW GRAMMAR WELL BUT I SURE AS HELL KNOW SCREAMING AND MUSIC. To all the people saying Shadows CAN still scream let me explain something please... Look Shadows can still scream he just can't scream the way he used to, Back during the first album of A7X Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, Shadows injured himself by screaming incorrectly. I grew up going to these guys shows when only 20 people would show up and they weren't even front lining. Shadows was screaming from his chest and straining his Cords. He was doing what you call a Fry scream and he did a pretty incredible job when doing it. He is the only vocalist I know that could gutter roll scream in the form of a Fry scream. but when doing a Gutter roll by Fry screaming you eventually screw yourself in the end because you are doing exactly what the title of fry screaming is. You Fry your cords like a toaster being forced to stay on, Fry screams are intended to be used as a mid range scream which is in between a gutter roll (Deep) and a Reflection scream (High). Well shadows was Fry screaming for all of his levels of screaming. Deep, Mid and Highs while breathing from his chest which doesn't allow much air flow and not allowing air flow causes a vocalist to force the scream longer and harder. It kills cords and he just didn't have anyone there to teach him the right way until it was to late. The proper way to Scream for their first two albums, shadows should have been diaphragmatic breathing. In other words expanding your abs to do a deep breath and then flexing your abs to push the air out at a controlled exhale which allows for a longer scream while being able to control your cords for the specific scream you are trying to perform. (Chester benington from Linkin Park and Phil Bozeman from Whitechapel are perfect examples of Proper screaming.) when you diaphragmatic breath for a gutter roll scream you open the top of your vocal cord tunnel and close the bottom of the cord tunnel while you roll your tongue back while making a grumpy old man face as some would say. When performing a reflection scream or a high scream you do the opposite with your vocal cord tunnel and push the back of your bottom teeth with your tongue while smiling and having the scream bounce of the top of your mouth or "reflect." This creates a High pitch scream. A mid level scream is pretty simple, again breathing with your diaphragm like the other two screams you completely relax your cords and kinda combine your smile and grumpy old man face together to create a mid scream. (most death metal vocalist Fry their mid screams because it is easier to transition back to a deep or high scream from a fry.) If you have made it to the end of this lesson, I hope you understood the explanation. I love A7X and will always enjoy their music.
HazardGamingHG yeah at the beginning of the song he let out an awesome scream. It’s probably not the wisest thing to do consistently through out an hour long set, he probably could’ve screamed the whole song just fine, but it would’ve made the rest of the show a lot more difficult to do. Maybe after his surgery he just got he’ll be back to normal, we can hope
He says when he screams it makes him not sing as well, so he has really backed off on the screaming in order to sing better. It's nice that Johnny has really picked up the screaming parts well though.
Most people fail to understand how hard and unhealthy it is to juggle harsh and clean vocals every night for about 2 hours for long touring schedules. So some songs get opted out completely or get tweaked to work out live. Making johnny do most screaming is a good call and from what I saw here Matt carried his share still too. Much better than he can or does on songs like Second Heartbeat
M Dzul Nur Faisal Have you heard the screams he’s been sneaking in recently? Look up his scream on afterlife, I believe 2018 in Texas. He still has it, and he’s a fuckin monster. He’s just been preserving vocals for the studio, where they are now.
God Hates Us isn't a fun song? are you fucking high? I would definitely have a lot more fun in the pit with God Hates Us being played when compared to Beast and the Harlot. Wait, so if you use a line from an album it's a ripoff? You can't say God Hates Us because there's album with that title? Yeah fuck you.
