Honestly I think they done a good job on it, especially considering all the hop ups for it out already. Redcat has been turning into my go to lately, you can’t hardly beat them especially price point.
Cool rig, I think 1/18 scale is the sweet spot for mini crawlers/ trail trucks. 1/24 too small and underpowered . 1/18 you can run indoors when weather is bad but still take outside if you want. And yes I think there’s room for more , gives the customer more options and keeps other manufacturers on their toes . Great review Matt, look forward to the upgrades video 👍
Gotta give redcat props, if the aftermarket isn’t gonna support them, then damnit they are supporting themselves. Unfortunate gen 9 doesn’t have more aftermarket support Redcat is RC for the common man lol
SOMEBODY NEEDS TO JUST DO A MINI BUILDERS KIT!!!!!! Plenty of stuff out there to build with redcat! You would be the first and I would gladly buy one!!!!!!
Tiny trucks is what has brought me to these RCcrawler specific channels ;) Redcat brought what the people want! Affordable, competitive addition to the small crawler market!
Very very anxious to see your upgrade video. I will be checking my local hobby store for inventory on this little rig. If they’ve got them I’m getting one!!
This will only matter if you can find them in hobbytown or local hobby shops. Small crawlers hook many people into the hobby, so like the SCX24, if you can just pick the cheapest one off the shelf, it may become the default truck. But they have to get them in stores, and i havent seen one on shelves in colorado yet
The price point is the biggest feature. For $100 you get alot plus an LCGish flat rail chassis with some shock mounting. Redcat did great on this one. Cant wait for the next two drops this month.
I dont think I'll buy it. But that's more to do with my vision and small scale don't work well together. Haha. That aside. Redcat did a great job here Not so good electronics... easy fix. The fact that the truck is a good base, amd a great cost. That's the win. Upgrades are cheaper for the small scale to. Good for redcat, on all the upgrades to. It's cool to see how far redcat has come over the past 10 years. I had an everest 10 back when they came out. They were not great.... But only really the axles sucked. Now they are a good completion for the bigger name companies. Very cool. Good review man.
Almost grabbed this with the upgrades but, I opted for the FX118 instead. I was too hype about the brushless and FOC tech. Now if I introduce someone to crawling... I could get this one too ;)
Definitely pre-ordering one of these with a few brass pieces! From what I have seen I am very impressed and loves the mini kaiju looking body. Do you have any suggestions one thr route you would go if you were to go with a brushless system for it? Off subject but congrats on being the only youtuber that figured out the gyro one the Omni Terminator! People are sending them to your video to learn how to set it up! Love ya long time!
Wow, no kidding, huh? I just did a run with the gyro functioning, and it makes the Terminator so much easier to control. Highly recommend getting that version! As for a brushless system on the Ascent 18, I'd likely go Furitek.
@scalebuildersguild thanks for the reply! I am still kind of a new sub(not sure how I have missed your channel so long) so cool how you take so much time responding to most of your subs! Thanks man!
That’s awesome! $100 how can you complain! Fender flair’s are goofy but that’s easy fix. Cool they came out with tons of upgrades. Awesome vid as always!,👍🏼
I’m excited for this truck. I think they had a micro crawler wayyyy back in the day (RedCat Sumo) and this is so much better for what is a somewhat saturated market. Can’t beat $100 for the price either. I’ll be adding one to my fleet!
I love Redcat and have a modded Gen 8. And this Ascent 18 is a great price form beginner's but it doesn't grab me enough, for me to to replace any of my FMS's or SCX 24's. 👍🏴
I am really in love with micro crawlers from what I see on youtube and this one looks great. I wish I would have money to buy one and get into crawling. But unfortunately I live in Romania and I can’t even afford a micro crawler. Life is certainly harder in the balkans.😢
I am digging what Redcat is doing. Its fun to see what different reviewers say, as Greg didn't think it was underpowered... Maybe you have been hanging out with Josh too much. Lol.
Ordered 2 and they did ship but said they had no idea of the massive responce so it delayed it a few days..but seems like a good lil truck to start with
Red cat is the heel nipper the other companies need. They do awesome work, but they have to keep pushing because red cat is always right there and pushing themselves. I love that they're usually at a lower price point too. That said, I don't see the draw... The small scale stuff bounces like Walmart or radio shack toy RCs, they're mostly plastic so there's nothing to make the suspension work. 10th scale and larger is where I stick, however I'm into 12th scale chassis to make more realistic swb rigs...I'll probably put my Tamiya YJ hard body on a 12th scale chassis because it's very hard to find a 10th scale in anything near that wheelbase. Either way, I always click on a SBG video!
I like these "smaller" "18th" scale rigs. I like the size of the SCX24's. Some of the 18th rigs are kinda big and if you've got a track built for 24th, those are a bit too big. This one looks like it would be at home on a 24th scale crawl course. $99 bucks is pretty cheap for you guys in the States. Interested to see if these catch on and the aftermarket guys jump in on it. Looks like there's not much room to lower it with those high shock towers. And I wonder if articulation is going to be limited with the pitched rails making the servo space tight.
@@scalebuildersguildVery good! Stealth Canadian! LOL! I assumed US due to you're price reference, but I guess it makes sense as your biggest audience is down there.
So I am heavily invested in 1/24. I've resisted 1/18 for the past couple of years and refused to buy into that scale as I didn't want another scale to start stocking up on parts as well but the dang market is REALLY making it hard for me to keep resisting. What is everyone's thoughts? Am I doomed to start buting 1/18 size products now??
99$…😮 Thats what I paid for my Scx24 Deadbolt (which I still need to fit all my upgrades I got for onto)! These 18/24 scale are getting cheaper than my 65mm drones..!
Redcat nearly have all the pieces together but the engineering design is still unrefined. Like its big brother it rides very high for a crawler and those c hubs are just wild. For price and components though, well done. Another example of a cheap truck from them so you can try the hobby, and then buy another more refined brand if the bug bites.
$99 . With full backing of parts ... enough Said .. Portals are still not a favorite of mine. BUT, it sure does improve performance, even more so, on a smaller scale rig. Seemed to run ok as well. :)
It's funny how you keep referring to the 1/10th one as "full size" I'm waiting for hobbywing or castle to release 180 or 380 size brushless motors for crawling
It's nice and inexpensive but... Redcat is very very hard to find on the European market and as I live in Europe, I will not be able to get it. Just like for the 1/10, I couldn't get one so I took an rc ecto element instead and for the 1/18 well, I'm going to stay with traxxas...
It’s not as simple as that… Wanting to buy one to join my 1/10 scale one (for 99 bicks a no brainer) doing so would make it almost double the price to import it to the Netherlands…😮😢 Already payed 50% more then regular “bargain price” for the 1/10 scale one. Will have to skip this one. You guys over there are so lucky with all the different choices, after market support and good prizes over there.
They copied FMS bringing out a small scale of the bigger one. Only FMS did it the other way bringing out a big version after the small version of the k5. 😂. It's a good looking truck that has potential
Bring on the competition in the small scale! We all know that it forces innovation and better products for us all to enjoy! 😊
Oh no oh no oh no!!!! There is a SBG sticker on that windshield!!!! Josh will cry buckets!!!!!
😂
😂
For those of us that are in the Stone Age and don’t have a cricut those should go in the merch store
Redcat had a 1/24 scale 4ws crawler called a sumo. They also had a 1/16 scale crawler called the Everest 16.
Thanks REDCAT for showing us that everyone else is ripping off the consumer !.
From Canada Price is 160.00 US Dollars, not such a great deal afterall....
Honestly I think they done a good job on it, especially considering all the hop ups for it out already. Redcat has been turning into my go to lately, you can’t hardly beat them especially price point.
I mean $99 and it has bearings AND oil filed shocks?! I had to buy one… and immediately I spent just as much as the rig costs in upgrades 😂
I took a 1/18 scale to Ireland and it was great because it fit in my backpack!
Gotta give redcat props, if the aftermarket isn’t gonna support them, then damnit they are supporting themselves.
Unfortunate gen 9 doesn’t have more aftermarket support
Redcat is RC for the common man lol
Kinda hard to argue with for $100. Gives you a big head start on the budget for mods. Especially with bearings and clipless body mounting.
Make that 210 Canadian Dollars....!!!
@@lazerlayneThat’s your fault for living in Canada.
@@joshuagregg7579 better the being a Merican....suck it...
The body being a non drop bed and the stance really gives me mini mega truck vibes and im hear for it, great video Matt.
Nice little Redcat there, Dahmer
Nice reference….😆
Ordered one while you were telling me about it! For $100 I have to give it a try!
Enjoy it!

I would love a Vanquish - VRD 18 1/18 scale crawler builders kit with dig.

Agreed! Thanks for watching and have a great day!
Always love seeing more variety in the small scale market! When companies compete, the customer wins!
So awesome what redcat is doing!!! Haven't been much in 18th scale but this actually looks exciting!

Thank you!
What a cool lil rig .. I might have to pick one up.
Go for it!
There is absolutely more room another small scale crawler. Love the channel

The small acale trucks are taking off, not because of the price point. The fact that you can crawl year round in the house is the big win.

There is always room for more trucks as long as they're capable...and don't require a Philips head to take off a wheel.
I don't know if there's an 18th scale out there that can hang with some of the 24s I got the binder all super tricked 2
Id like to see this up against the cr pro evo..
Nice windshield sticker...haha
I am a HUGE Redcat fan, this has me REALLY excited!!!!
What size tires do you have on the red 1/10 big brother in the back ground looks great. Thanks
Vanquish VXT2’s
It's more a 1/24 then a 1/18. If you compare it to the Element ones and the Capra. Still nice
I'd compare it to the FMS and the Traxxas 1/18th, it's within those parameters. The Element and Axial ones are nowhere close.
Damn, just went tyo order one but shipping to Australia is the same price as the RC so that just killed me buying one.
That sucks!
Was that a Lexan 1:18 body. That you are gonne work on soon?😬😅
😂
What is the best mini crawler out the box? My scx24 has a heavy hardbody and I want a performance crawler now. What are your thoughts?
I’d lean towards the RedCat or one of the more bespoke kit options out there. Any of them can be heavily modified to perform!
upgrade your scx24 get all metal parts
Best opener ever dude lmao
Thanks!
Yep, gotta get one to match my 1/10 one 💪🏾💯
It’s a cool little truck but the body is confused. It’s an 80’s ford ranger with a 74 Datsun grill
