  • Making this homemade pine needle soda was very fun to do and something I will continue doing. Pine needles are known to be full of vitamin c although I do not know how much would be available in this form vs drinking in a tea.
    What You Need:
    1 Quart Size Mason Jar
    2 Cups Pine Needles
    2 1/2 Cups Cold Water
    2-4 Tablespoons Sugar
    Steps:
    1. Gather 2 cups of pine needles
    2. Put pine needles in to quart size jar
    3. Rinse pine needles in cold water
    4. Put sugar in to jar
    5. Put water into jar
    6. Let sit for 2-3 days before checking.
    7. If desired amount of carbonation pour over ice

      Pine needles are known to have high amounts of Vitamin C. I just don’t know how much this process makes the Vitamin C available to us vs tea. Thanks for the question!

      Of course, honey has antibacterial properties so you get two together. If you are sick it helps recovering quicker. Don't put honey in hot teas because heat destroys goodness

      I do remember someone who was reviewing fragrance candles for a specific company, and that person was telling about how the pine candle helped when he was sick because it was high quality. So that makes sense. Besides, it smells like absolute heaven!

    Pine tard IS full of natural antibiotics, so it's évident that all pines will have those properties. You Can also ferment pine needles in honey, combine them with garlic,ginger,Rosemary etc,and in oil for soap making. Good for irritated skin. Take Care.🌞

    I can't wait to try this! A couple of branches of a white pine tree broke off after a rain storm in my neighborhood a couple of days ago, so I scored a small branch full of needles! I started 3 jars of pine needle cleaner and still have a ton of needles left.

      @goatfarmmb That's not how that works, lol. Certain animals can eat things we can't, and vice versa. That's like saying dogs can eat chocolate just because we can. They can't. Much love. I will agree it could very well be harmless to humans though. ❤️

    Why is my pine soda not bubbly? I used a mason jar w a lid and filled it to the top and closed tight. I put it in indirect sunlight. Should i put it in direct sunlight next time? I used four tblspns of sugar. 2 cups of white pine and two cups of water. Mine was like flat soda! :(

    • @connerphillips
      @connerphillips  Před 7 měsíci +2

      The other comment is right if you rinsed the needles with hot water or to well then you would have taken away the yeasts that make it bubble. Did you try waiting longer? If it needs 5 or 6 days I wouldn't open it on day 3 or a lot of the bubbles will be released. So your house may be cooler and you just need to wait longer.

    I had never heard of making soda with pine until only recently, when I was looking at videos on how to make kefir water and ginger ale. I think Pine soda would be absolutely wonderful to make and share with friends during Christmas time! There's a pine tree outside, but I don't know if it's white pine or something else. I never bothered to check because I never had a reason to. Also, I don't know if pesticides would be on the pine needles, even higher up. But I'm kind of wondering if they would be safe for me to use so that I could just step outside and pick some.

    • @connerphillips
      @connerphillips  Před rokem

      Those would both be fun to make I know kefir can be difficult and so making Pine Needle Soda may be a good start to it! I would definitely suggest finding a white pine if your going to do it. If your concerned that the tree may have been sprayed I wouldn't risk it! But if it has the 5 needle clusters and the almost birch like bark it should be white pine!

      To stay on the safe side, I just ordered some white pine from Etsy that's meant for making tea or whatever and it's supposed to show up around the 4th of July! I already have a jar I can use it for, 1 with sauce that I kept and cleaned and these fermentation Lids fit it nicely, and I can't wait! And this is just a test run for Christmas time! Christmas in July, y'all! 😊🎄

      I actually bought kefir grains before I went out of town for 3 weeks and just didn't start them up until I got back, and they're in their second fermentation phase with some cranberries but it's not bubbling and I'm hoping that because today is only the second day of second fermentation phase that there's still hope.

      @@connerphillips Milk kefir is like the easiest fermented drink to make, so simple. A 3 year old could do it. Water kefir is a bit more involved as the grains are a little more high maintenance. Great video by the way.

      They can but the reaction is not very strong so the pressure built up is not that crazy. By checking on it every couple days by releasing it will give you a good idea when to stop letting it ferment.

    Is ponderosa/yellow pine good for this recipe too?

    • @connerphillips
      @connerphillips  Před rokem +2

      I'm seeing mixed results on this, many places say that all pine needles are edible. Others are saying that ponderosa pine specifically has findings that say it is abortifacient and toxic. There findings were based off of cattle that were being raised. So I personally wouldn't take the chance, especially if your pregnant with the ponderosa pine.
