The NWS should really issue severe thunderstorm emergencies for really long tracked/dangerous storms like derechos that exceed 100+ mph.
They already do but only when warranted e.g. they are tracking, either via spotter/media reports or if detected on radar, a confirmed tornado or high wind event such as a derecho and when its tracking towards a known populated area. What would be the logic of issuing "a tornado emergency" each and every time they issue a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning? Answer: In no time, the public will treat a "PDS" warning as just a normal thing and will pay little attention to it! Their special wording is used for a purpose: to get people to pay attention.

Even if this doesn’t come fully to fruition, it allows enough advance notice for many to avoid potentially risky travel, etc. I would like to hear more details on the low- mid-level shear and the velocities there.
The severe threat, unfortunately, has actually just increased - especially across Iowa. Per the storm prediction center, There is an even higher chance of significant tornadoes and destructive wind.

I don't live in Iowa but I've seen the damage that derechos can do from CZcams videos. Be prepared and best to be in your safe place hunkered down, just in case.

My neighbors moved to Missouri, and I can't help but keep thinking they must be regretting it! I'm staying put on the West Coast!
Why would they regret it unless they were hit by a tornado?? There are dozens of states vulnerable to being hit by tornadoes and have been this spring!! No place is safe from some kind of natural disaster!
Missouri is a wonderful state. We rarely have ef1 tornadoes. July will be humid and then they may regret it.

BREAKING!!! The Storm Prediction Center just expanded the moderate risk area significantly for Tuesday! This now introduces a 15% hatched tornado risk for much of Iowa and nearby surrounding areas. On top of a large area of Iowa with 45% sig wind risk (destructive winds) and very large hail risk. Please remain sky aware and have ways to receive warnings! Peace and blessings.

The NWS should quit tornado seeding
Live in Milwaukee. This is scary. I've lived here my entire life (nearly 73 years). We have had strong wind storms - those straight line winds - that took out trees and caused damage in the past, but only rarely did tornado funnels form and touch down over the city because we are so close to Lake Michigan. But - no longer. We need to be prepared and have our emergency supplies including medications, food, blankets, computers, radios including the battery operated/crank radios that report the weather available in our basements. Hopefully you have all of your important documents stored in your computers or online, and originals in a safe deposit bank at a bank or in a waterproof lock box specifically created to hold important documents (like Wills, Trusts, deeds, insurance policies, etc.) in them. I'll be glued to National Weather Service/Sullivan website tomorrow and have radio on as well. Actually, I'm a little relieved, because the original forecast I watched yesterday said we would be due for some of this tonight (5/20/24). But I've got my bedroom window cracked open and probably won't sleep very well as I'll be listening for the tornado sirens to go off at any time.

@AnX8765 read the SPCs text. It doesn't mention tornado outbreak. Ive watched numerous channels and forcasts and this is the only one that mentioned tornado outbreak.

I wonder how much those thousands of windmills help push a low level jet stream? Ofcourse cloud seeding doesn't help.
Wind turbines have ZERO effect on the jet stream which doesn't drop below 5000 ft or 1600 m. And cloud seeding has minimal effect in major down pours!! Ignore the conspiracy theory hacks and you will be better informed!!
