I'm going to back it too! So much great content coming out. I have been searching for a few years now. I just switched to DM Scottys EZD6 rpg now I'm going to add this. Great things are happening to this hobby.
I think so too. People are unshackling from wotc and looking for new stuff
Shadowdark RPG is excellent. The Kickstarter is just crushing it because she's done such a great job creating a familiar feeling, intuitive to run FRPG.
Shadowdark is great. And I agree: it will bring in a crowd OSE/LotP/DCC and the like won't, because those games have different sensibilities. Good for her, and good for the hobby!
You can limit some of the power-creep cringe and it will have a ton of appeal to OSR guys.
Happy the surgery went well, Joe 🤘
This group looks like it's shaping up to be an interesting one. Keep the recaps coming, man ⚔️
And Shadowdark looks interesting.
Looks promising, I think it will be especially good for my middle schooler group.
I started back on BX, and have some nostalgia for that style of play, but most OSR products don’t quite do it for me. Shadowdark was the first time I felt truly excited. And having read through the PDF, I am not disappointed. Already working on my new campaign world, combining elements of old B1 and B2, stripping out the goofy parts, and placing it in the Shadowdark world, incorporating some of the adventures for it. I am pumped for my players to try it
awesome man! will you be sharing it anywhere? or posting/talking about it anywhere?
I like the dungeon dudes. They're entertaining and steer some younger people to our hobby.
Their style of presentation is what irks me. They always sound apologetic in everything they say
It looks like a 5e hack to play more like OSR stuff, I have followed it creation and played the quickstart. It has some rough spots but no more then any system.
I love the art in it
Really? You two as well? You realise I'm going to have to back this thing now, don't you?
I do have to say that I really hate alignment in Shadowdark. I know its not a major issue, but I have trouble with someone who happens to believe in all of the following: virtue, order. fairness, and utilitarianism.
Kelsey said in an interview she knows people are going to homebrew the content
I like the old strictly Law/Neutrality/Chaos paradigm without the good/evil baggage. I never liked treating Law and Chaos as simply different words for moral directions so at least in my game Lawful could be cold and cruel, think a zealous Witch hunter, Law demands order, It can forster the greater good or it could be an oppressive boot on your pressing down on your neck, Chaos could be selfish, bloodthirsty, uncaring or it could be an impulse towards nurturing individuality or creative freedom.. which isn't to say that actual good/evil duality doesn't exist in my game, Chaotic demons are still pure spiteful evil and lawful devils are still "evil" yet.more calculated in possibilities for example perhaps thinking if promoting a perceived "good" will foster their longer term goals of corruption down the line. I prefer it's more nuanced and I don't allow detect good or evil spells to work on mortal beings that are not attached intrinsically to those ideas.. makes it more fun for the players to figure it out themselves. I still think it has a place in my game to determine how a npc or monster would react in a realistic way to a situation and what it motivations and psychology are

Hurry up and get Shadowdark, everyone! In two weeks there will be a new OSR hotness for everyone to buy. I'm not saying that it isn't good, but look at your game shelf and note every variation of D&D there. Better make space for the need ending future of products these channels will promote.
Hell yeah to Shadowdark! Old-school D&D is practically in Kelsey's blood. Her understanding of the hobby and ability to merge old-school and new-school concepts I think is what makes this RPG so exciting.
She did an excellent job with it
