    I saw this movie twice in theaters when I was 11, because my siblings and I loved it so much, our Mom went to one showing, we laughed so much, and she was like "Hang on a second, do you guys want to see it again?" We were like "WHAT?!? We can DO THAT?" I'll always love our Mom for the strings she pulled for us that day! We saw two showings of HOme Alone in a single afternoon!

      Also, I dont know if the movie ever goes into detail about it, but the McAllister's must be wealthy! I looked up the actual price of the house they filmed in Chicago for the exterior shots of the film, and that is a 1million dollar house in a fancy suburb! I'd always wondered what the McAllister parents did for a living, lol!

    • @DlcEnergy
      @DlcEnergy Před 3 lety +9

      @@mnomadvfx Did you even watch the movie? They make it very obvious that's a nosy kid who gets mistaken for Kevin. It's nothing to do with Kevin also wearing a woolly hat at some point. lmao And obviously that nosy kid didn't stick around and go to the airport with his family did he? lol He said "have a nice trip" and left.
      Now if that crucial scene for the plot of this movie didn't explain itself to you, then how would seeing Kevin in a hat explain it? lol Do you presume only Kevin has the ability to wear woolly hats in his family? xD Anybody else is clearly a decoy? lol
      Also, just to let you know why the nosy kid was wearing a hat... Cause without a hat you'd see his hair and unless he had similar hair to Kevin (which would be way too contrived) you'd notice it's a different kid. So to make it much more plausible they gave him a woolly hat, which for all any of his family knows, Kevin could've been wearing. Nobody would question where Kevin got that particular woolly hat. Kevin don't own this, oh no, it's another decoy! lol
      Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

    This is my favorite Christmas movie. I grew up with it playing on TV, so it's very nostalgic. I watch it every year. The sound of Marv as he falls down the icy stairs to the basement might be one of the funniest sounds ever to me, plus his spider-scream of course. I also listen to the soundtrack because it IS really good. Also, I only recently noticed that the house itself is already decorated in Christmas colors (green carpeting, red wallpaper, etc) so it's like a subliminally festive looking film.

    Fun fact: John Candy, the guy who offers the mom a ride, says, "Our flight was cancelled, so we have to drive. We'll give you a ride." This is a reference to Candy's earlier movie: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, which came out 3 years earlier. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planes,_Trains_and_Automobiles
    The writer of both movies, John Hughes, was prolific, and a ton of the big movies from the '80s and '90s were either him as director, him as writer, or him involved in some other way: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hughes_(filmmaker)#Filmography
    I mean, check out that list: National Lampoon's Vacation, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Uncle Buck, Dennis the Menace.
    So if you ever hear an actor get asked about who their inspiration is, and they answer with "Hughes", this is the guy they're talking about. He shaped modern American film.

    In America, most churches just put up a general “manger” scene, with baby Jesus already there. The Christmas Eve church service usually has the story of the birth of Jesus. Again, different branches of Christianity have different kinds of Christmas services here, I’m just describing what I grew up around in Texas.

    I remember traveling overseas on Christmas Eve the year before this movie came out and we experienced delays because of airline overbooking. Not sure about these days (pandemic excluding) but back then traveling during the holidays was definitely always jampacked, at least here in the US. People are rarely where they want/need to be by Christmas Eve, and poor planning is only part of the reason. People also have scheduling constraints (due to work, due to needing to coordinate with multiple other loved ones with different availability, due to school), budget constraints, constraints due to sudden changes or emergencies.

    Fast fact, in another marriage, and under a different name, the mother also had another child named "Lydia Deetz". But apparently after a failed art career, and scandal involving her daughter being engaged to a ghost, she left the family and became a part of the McCallister family. Sadly, after several years with this family and losing her son twice, she became a ragdoll of her former self, and began hanging around a thin and tall guy named "Jack", where she helped in a kidnapping/Santa-napping plot. Despite her part in the crime, she became involved in law, and became a judge, until a 'A Series of Unfortunate Events', when she tried to marry a 14 year old girl to a 42 year old guy. Last I heard, in 2021 her status had been changed io "Extinct".

    Well done again kid just keep being you. Fav Christmas movie is one that's not as well known. It was a coproduction between Jim Henson and the Canadian broadcasting corporation, with original music by Paul Williams., it ran originally on the CBC for about three years next showed up on the short lived RCA videodisc system, spotty distribution for years. Emmet Otters Jug Band Christmas. Introduced by Kermit with some wonderful original music, old school wholesome family Christmas entertainment. and no I dont own shares lol. Merry Christmas and best of the season Mari

    That's interesting. I've never heard of a tradition of not putting baby Jesus on the manger until Christmas. Here in the states, it seems like he's put out when the rest of the nativity is...
    By the way, on Netflix there's a series called "The Movies That Made Us" that has a great episode about this film

    Interestingly I learned about the differences in celebrating Christmas in elementary school. We had our first English lessons at the age of nine or ten, apparently. And during Christmas time that year we basically still learned the numbers to 25 while also having stuff about Christmas in the lessons.
    Most people in Germany celebrate Christmas late in the afternoon or evening of Christmas Eve. British and American families usually celebrate in the morning of Christmas Day. And by celebrating I mean unwrap their presents ;)

      Oh and about screaming Marv: AFAIK it is Daniel Stern but he did not do it while lying on the floor. He had to do the scream in post since it would have scared the spider. Yes, read that right.

      It just occurde to me when you commented on his clothes several times that he has clothes for each and every occasion... did the family also forget his bag or did indeed nobody end up packing with/for Kevin?
      Guess I have to rewatch it. But it's still on the list of movies I present my boyfriend each and every day for the last few weeks.
      Other movies on the list be The Polarexpress, The Muppet Christmas Carol (just cute) or the (other) Disney version with Scrroge McDuck as Ebeneezer Scrooge (since he is usually named different in other countries - Dagobert Duck in German e.g. - it is initially odd that the story fits so well... until you realize that Scrooge is modeled after Scrooge...), Miracle on 34th street, NAtivity Story, Die Hard...

    Baby in the crib mostly various from family to family and church to church. I grew up with baby in crib, wife not in crib. Now we do not in crib because it's nice. It makes you take a moment in the midst of the Christmas chaos to officially acknowledge the birth.

    I know most home Nativity Scenes have the baby Jesus in the manger. However, the Nativity in the Catholic Church places the Baby in the manger at Christmas Eve mass.

    Flights and hotels are full from Dec 10th through Jan 5th everywhere in America. That is just a rough timeframe though. Also the manger is always full. Very few places wait to put Jesus out until Christmas. Jesus wasn't born on Christmas anyway.

    One of my favorite Christmas movies (well shown on TV every Christmas that is, in my country) is 20000 Leagues under the Sea, the 1954 Disney version with james Mason as Captain Nemo.
    Home Alone 2 is also a must if you liked the first one, the Wet Bandits take alot more damage in that one !

    Actually, John Candy *_could_* play the clarinet. He did it in a lot of SCTV skits. In fact, Catherine O'Hara was a fellow SCTV alumni and worked together for years back in the 80s.

    Why does everyone miss the detail that the random kid was accidentally counted. If she only counted 10 they would’ve realized Kevin was missing but she accidentally counted the random kid. I caught that even as a kid.

    • @joits
      @joits Před 3 lety

      Not everyone. As you can imagine, Home Alone is being reacted to be a lot of people and I've seen a lot of them and most noticed the random kid. But sometimes, like in this video, the reactor is sometimes so caught up in what they're thinking and having to make commentary that they miss things.
