    Can we take a moment to make the case that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the one deserving the Conn Smythe?
    He's quietly going about his business, tallying the 4th most points (and 6th most PPG for players still in the playoffs) while also being a catalyst on the best PP as well as the #1 PK guy for a nearly perfect Oilers penalty killing unit?
    He's not flashy, he's not the "sexiest" choice for the CS, but the Oilers don't get past the second round without him playing unbelievably well in all situations.

    • @GamingSlippers
      @GamingSlippers Před 2 měsíci +1

      The reality is if you win the cup you could pick 2-3 guys to win it and they would deserve it. If EDM does do it, McDavid potentially breaking a record with his assists would probably seal it. I don't think we get this far without multiple people (that is usually how it goes), but Bouchard is a force and something this team has not had on the back end since Pronger.

    Duncan Keith, Coffey and Ekholm all mentors for Bouchard paying dividends...Tyson Barrie was very good at quarterbacking the PP was the reason Bouchard had to wait for a roster spot. That and GM Holland likes to develop players at the farm.
    I believed Bouchard would be a 20-30 goal scorer with 80 assist potential in his prime based on his play in Jr and scouting. ..great shot and great passer even back then.
    Bouchard has the most 95+ mph shots and its not even close...Ovi 2nd overall takes double the amount of shots.

    I remember being hyped when we drafted him but also confused when i saw people being so skeptical. I agreed with his skating, though I didn't think it was THAT bad. I never doubted his shot / offensive potential. Hes been holding onto pucks & making more plays over the last season & a half. Big improvement. I remember his "lack of urgency" in the D zone being an issue too. That still shows up from time to time but for the most part he's got that fixed. So I expected a great offensive d-man from the start, there were a lot of John Carlson comparisons. But I didn't expect him to take leaps and bounds defensively. Very impressed

  • @meanstreetmook
    @meanstreetmook Před 2 měsíci +8

    To keep repeating Bouchard is "so bad" defensively is ludicrous. He's a +34 in regular season and +15 in playoffs, leading everybody by Far! Only one other guy is in double digits. And Power Play points have Zero effect on +/- Now to say Nurse has been terrible defensively with his -13 on the same damn team Would be accurate.

  • @Mineav
    @Mineav Před 2 měsíci +11

    Bouchard is a playoff leading +15. I guess that's because of McDavid and Drai as well, even though they are +7 and +2 respectively -- quite a bit worse. Almost every great player has had other great players on their team. I swear, the people who make these arguments don't actually watch hockey.

    He needed Duncan Keith and now Ekholm to be his training wheels and covered his mistakes and still does....
    BUT....the combination of Coffey, Knoblach, Keith, Ekholm and experience something finally clicked.
    OFFENSIVELY???...On THAT Powerplay....Yes he has a blast and can find the stretch plays....He is risk/reward.
    As far as surprises?....Broberg....Stepped in after NOT playing forever in the 3rd ROUND!!!
    Looked like a seasoned Vet, scored a goal and did not need Ekholm or a Powerplay.......If HE develops along with Vinny and Bouchard, and Skinner keeps it going....THAT completely changes the future of the back end for years to come.

Bouchard, as offensively skilled as he is, is not an engine..
