**LYRICS**
Today you looked around to my heart's call
This tiny life ain't been strangled after all
Time, time, time, time
Never ask what's become of us
Just dedicate your sorrow
Here and now
To the soul of the sea
And me
Rushin' to me
You turned around to my song's call
You dreamer in the sand
Just lie there laughing til the fall
Kindest lover
I can't stay alone tonight
Bring me all your love
Here and now
Come rushin' to me
Wake up late
Without a smile
Telephone rings
You run like a child
On the street
Into the day
The people I meet
Have nothing to say
No smile
No sorrow
No laughter
No tomorrow
They talk hen to hen
They talk about their men
And practice all the tricks for them
Too soon nightime's coming on
Deep in the darkness feeling alone
No rain
No seed
No dreams
No silence
Far away today
Mama ocean hold me to you
Rock me on your waves
And tell me...
Is it all true?
Time, time, time, time
Never ask what's become of us
Dedicate your sorrow
Here and now
To the soul the sea and me

thebandheart I've been watching footage of the tour, and I love it!
how bout a concert in Vancouver! :D
Probably their most powerful song...I still can’t get enough after all of these years.
"Dreamboat Annie" is my favorite Heart album. For many reasons.
And "Magazine".
All albums, remember listening while laying on floor, lazy Sunday afternoon, absorbing lyrics
I was living at home listening. Many years ago. I loved Heart!! I miss those times.. My beautiful home is gone now. My parents have gotten older. If i wish very much 2 have my home back. Just venting 2 who ever want 2 listen.. God Bless.
Simply amazing! This is my favorite era for the group and this song is pure magic! That voice, that guitar, and everything else makes me happy to be alive to experience art like this. Long live Heart ❤️
This song is quintessential 70s Heart and pure Ann Wilson, with her other-worldly voice and astounding story-telling.
Lovely song writing, lyrics,poetic
Ann Wilson could sing her heart out. She has a beautiful voice.
Have surfed 48 years and every day I go out into the water... I have thought of this song! The Sea is a place of dream sorrows laughter and vast cravings... My god this is a great song
The late 70s is one of the eras we can recapture (shifting our assemblage points back to that feeling) most easily when hearing its music. Seeing Ann and hearing her rich voice in these 'mellow side' songs, I can almost reach it. Thank God for the convergence of fortune that got this majesty recorded for the human archive. Lasting testament that we were worth a damn.
During this time, Heart was criticized for writing lyrics that "sounded like bad high school poetry." But, take this lyric right here: "You dreamer in the sand / You just lie there laughin' till the fall." People, that is a beautiful verse of poetry, if I've ever heard one!
Amen. This album a magnum opus. “Bad high school poetry”? I can only laugh. It’s called professional jealousy. Those who say such things, where is their better? Where is their multi-platinum? Where are there many, many 10’s of millions of people all over the World from the past 50 years who reverence this song like it came down from Heaven itself? Not rhetorical no - NOT rhetorical, what is your answer, “Mr. critic”? Oh there are so many examples of lyrics sewn into the hearts of the masses by this particular album AND song. So there! From a pure performance perspective, Ann knocks me to my emotional knees every time I hear her sing (the second time in the song), “Come rush into me”. And wailing immediately following. This is by far the most mature, most moving, deepest, most intrinsically articulate human expression of one to another, a woman to a man I think I shall ever hear while a mortal man. I so want to ask Ann how she did that - in the studio. “Come rush into me”. After that, Ann - I could never look upon a woman the same way again. I had no idea a man could be lived that deeply by a woman, by a daughter of Eve, the Mother of all Living - and Ann, yes, clearly a Daughter of God Himself personally.
Agreed about criticism but it's because they can't match the quality of the lyrics ,the ambiance of the song and the singer...." End Of".

Heart's version of Zepp's "the rain song"
Being a “professional” critic should not be considered a profession. Not at all!
This has always been one of my absolute favorite Heart songs.
Dreamboat Annie, Little Queen, and Dog & Butterfly helped me to get through the most difficult years of my life.
Thank you Ann, Nancy, Roger, Steve and Michael. Love you guys!
tuttt99 Your little life ain't be strangled...after all. Thank God for 60's /70's music, saved me too.
+tuttt99 I believe this was the very first album I ever bought - Dream Boat Annie, then Little Queen, followed up with Dog and Butterfly ... Got to see them perform several times. So long ago now - hard that time passes so quickly ... Oh, to be a teen again!
Yes, awesome Heart setup. But, they are still rocking, Ann & Nancy. Respect.
+tuttt99 .. don't forget Howard Leese! Wouldn't be the same without his synth and guitars. :)
what, no love for Howard?
It just takes my breathe away Ann by all that is voices so far a head of anyone on that planets ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ ❤
My mother (RIP) bought me a copy of this album as a gift when I was a kid in the 70's. I still have that vinyl today, and yes the CD too. I loved to rock out to Magic Man, but she thought this was her favoutite track. I can see why she liked it to so much and listening to it now makes me miss her a lot. Good work ladies and gentlemen.
Heart is absolutely beautiful! All my prayers 2 Anne!!❤
Just saw the "dreamboat annie" thing where they redid all these songs and watching the led me to find this song. I forgot all about it back in the day cause everyone was busy with the three singles. Personally, I think this is the bes tune on this album. Reminds me when I was about 12 or 13 living in Kent WA.
I am a Classic Rock Bassist and I absolutely have ALWAYS loved this song. I was supposed to meet you guys back in 78 when you were staying the night in Henderson Ky. at the Holiday Inn. You were playing Roberts stadium in Evansville Indiana. I had met up with your tour manager Wilbur Hensley and he told me to come by the next afternoon. You all had left before I got there. Oh well .... such is life. I have a few of your albums but the one's I love most is Dreamboat Annie and Dog and Butterfly. Back when Music was music.
I love you guys and keep on ROCKIN" .... !!!
I really love Ann's performance here, she gets into so much! And the song really takes you on a journey to the soul of the sea. Its just a very interesting song composition too. And of course excelllent instrumental skills. This song has it all.
my heart will always be lost at sea what a beautiful song by such a lovely voice
Such a beautiful voice, even now in 2020!
Just beautiful and magical. Love you Ann. And Nancy.
What a great song and performance, one of my all time fave bands !
Classic! Songs like this used to put me in a dreamy sort of mood growing up.
Dreamboat Annie was the first of my albums that I updated to CD when I was able to, and this has always been about my favorite track.
Such a great band. Saw them in 82. Takes me back to real good days. Great to see and hear this.
Whoa, what a siren. This is so moving. Enjoyed hearing that Ovation guitar too.
"You dreamer in the sand, you just lie there laughing 'till the fall." -- Has anyone ever written a more beautiful, a more profound, a more sad lyric?"
Two words: Absolutely Freakin Awesome! Ann is amazing.
I never understood why they didn't embrace this song more, it's genius.
Very nice to see this performance because they sure didn't do it after the first album.
I hope to one day achieve half the beauty and talent of both Wilson sisters.♥
Ann Wilson has phenomenal control of that amazing voice. tight band. one of the best live.
One of my most favorite Heart songs ever!
This right here is something special
One of the many, less known gems. Everyone knows Barracuda, Magic Man, Alone, many others that were, for a lack of a better word 'mainstream', but Heart has SOOO many great songs that get overlooked.
Yes yes yes yes🤘🤘. Too many of their songs are overlooked. In all honesty I can say every song from their 70s Era is just heavenly 🤘💙
Bravo, good job. We adore Youse lot.
Love Caroline & BUGS ☆
Ann had the sexiest face and the voice to match...What a Goddess.
Gotta say the same for nancy. They're both perfect 🤘
Love this song
I've still got the picture disc album of Dreamboat Annie that I bought in 1978 as a 16 year old English boy. Loved it then, love it now.
You know.... When this album was a hit, I listened to this song over and over again. Being that I was a teenage boy at the time, I don't think I had the maturity to fully appreciate it. Now all these years, I listen to this song and I think to myself, "My God! This is so sweet and sad and beautiful!"
Masterfully written and performed music such as this CAN not and WILL not ever be duplicated. The same can be said for the overkill beauty and amazing voice of Ann Wilson. As highly regarded as Heart is, they are still underrated. Music of the mid/late 70's is superior to everything else and always will be.
Nancy made all of us girls want to play guitar, even though I don't, I wanted to...she is the best. Ann is the best vocalist..there is no one like her. Thank you for setting that bar for me when I was so young...I have always measured any music since against their talent.
A particular atmosphere, so amazing!

I've always loved this song. It brings back so many beautiful memories.
Beautiful. Thanks my girls!😍
Love this. Ann sounds as good live as she does on the studio track-- and this was back when singing live meant singing live. I forgot how complex and multi-phased this song is-- with that weird, apocalyptic middle section bookended by two mega-mellow, folksy, stoner-chick groove sessions.
What a jem! Thanx for posting
Brings back some good memories....I use to listen to all the early Heart albums over & over & over....I know them by heart... :)
What an incredible band, and an incredible song. I first heard this when I was 8, and it is still as powerful 45 years later.
Never heard this live, Excellent ❤️❤️🥁👍🏻👍🏻
We love you!!!
There are many fantastic female vocalists out there … and then there is Nancy Wilson. Period. It makes near on no difference what she sings, its quite extraordinary.
Saw you 3 times in the 80's in Nashville when tickets cost 8 bucks
I LOVE YOUUUU 🤘😎🤘♥️♥️♥️
LOVE MONGERS
Oh, how I love you Wilson Sisters:) Michael Derosier you are the icing on the cake for me...dreamy then and now:)
Just another great great song from Heart Love the lyrics of this beautiful song.
thank you! i finally found this song...i couldnt think of the name
This proves Heart was not just a studio band.
I have always loved this song. It should be in the playlist now! I'm seeing Heart at the Puyallup Fair in September...I can only hope
great band, killer music. thx for posting
Finally bought Dreamboat Annie just this week, and it's been in constant rotation. I've always loved Magic Man, Crazy On You, and Barracuda (three tracks as good as anything that's ever been done in rock), but had never bought (or heard) a Heart album until now. Well, it's freakin' great, and Soul of the Sea is just gorgeous. (And I've been crushing on '77-vintage Ann ever since my wife bought me the Midnight Special DVD collection a few years ago. Hey, you guys should release THIS show on DVD!)
Roger Fisher is one of the greatest guitar players, ever. So underrated.
Wow I forgot how AWESOME they were WTF AWESOME What a tight band
Not dated at all. Very pure and Heart at it's best!
I've always loved this song. I get goosebumps every time!!
my favorite ... its perfect
They are so very precious great music all the time keep making love not war in the studio
great performance....tight....that voice....man did they write a whack of great songs...many, many, many.....
Never get tired of the Wilson sisters they FN ROCK!!! This song is excellent! One of their best early works. Ann's voice just keeps getting better with age. ROCK CHIX RULE!!!
absolutely beautiful! my all time favorite heart album. I think I played it a thousand times in my senior year of high school (CLASS OF 88 BABY!! LOL)
The best female singer ever Ann Wilson
(The best male singer ever Ken Tamplin...)
Yes, I lived near a creek, so I am a water person who came from Southern VA.
I would have my window open next to the creek and hear the water men going out to the sea which was connected to the creek - Sara's creek.
So I love this song and Dreamboat Annie.
I am a water child even though I am 52.
Amazing still
You are awesome! I have always liked this band!
They lived in are neighborhood, practicing, parties that only those in the early 70's-"the Hill/Mont----/Inter----", we were/are fortunate to be an intimate part of such a beautiful time, place and friends. Most important, they have lived the Dream so beautifully and blessed US ALL with their hearts!!!! Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing a fabulous ride!
Very,very beautiful
Beautiful in every way!POWERFUL performance
LEMME WORSHIP YOU ANN 🙌🏻
Magical!💋
This is so great.
"time time time time never ask whats become of us" what a line - what a song - what a voice - the last few bars of the bridge to the end is likely my all time individual favourite piece of music - just amazing stuff and so evocative on so many levels!! thanks ladies [and gentlemen]
What a powerful voice. So many times I've listened to DBA and this song was has remained one of my favorites. They may not be in the R&R HOF yet, but my little rock star puppies are named Annie & Nancy. (the boys are Eddie & Alex but that's for a different channel).
this song is the best example I can think of something being dated, in a good way. It's a deep cut and essential centerpiece to that debut album. Gorgeous tune, sweetly echoing the early 70s. A real innocent time for them. They should re-vive it in the new tour.
Great song
I would give anything to have Nancy's gorgeous acoustic skills and Ann's voice...anything.
What true artists. Look at 4:55 and see what compassion Ann puts into her music at such a young age. Such professionals in the 70's era.
Three Bong Hits and the headphones and i'm good with this song... :)
I love you Ann and Nancy:) This song makes me very happy....good memories too!
One of the most amazing voices, ever.
Mesmerizing...
Still infatuated after all these years...Marry me Annie ❤💍
words can't describe how much i love this song. i first heard it while watching the dreamboat annie live thing, and i instantly became addicted to it! the song, anyway...
So soothing
35 years ago and now Ann is hotter and more talented than im sure youve ever or will ever try to be! And joke or not , Heart is and deserves to be in the R&R Hall of Fame ! Ann and Nancy always Great, classy and Hot! dont stop ladies!!
Pure beauty.
there is a soulfulness to this song that i love. please play this when u come to idaho. i was there when u played nampa, idaho & truly enjoyed it. u r truly the female version of led zep. hope i will b able to afford to go. love u guys!
ANN IS A GODDESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so good. It's such a shame stuff like this doesn't get played live anymore, we end up having to listen to Zeppelin covers....What happened.
Just love it dammit. Got to be my favorite.
Wow, no way you have this! This is amazing. Thank you!!!!
man what a wonderful performance singing by Ann on this. You can tell she was deep into it. Very moved by this. Awesome
I still have my very FIRST Heart Ticket Stub, Aladdin Hotel (now long gone) Las Vegas, NV $8 I think it was 1976-78, something like that, was 12-14 years old. Was my favorite band FOREVER, saw them a few times when I worked at the Hard Rock Hotel mid 90's at The Joint, last time as the Lovemongers, only bout 200 people in the whole place, it was so COOL! Thanks for the memories girls! Rock On!
