    Wonderful interview! I grew up learning both French and English. Knowing how to pronounce French spelling patterns helps tremendously with the majority of these rose names. Thank you for the book recommendation. Don't beat yourself up over not knowing how to pronounce each of those French names properly. You try, which is admirable.

      @@TheRoseGeek I'm a literacy specialist and I always admire when people try their best to read words that have a different language origin. The Spanish language is based more on 1:1 letter sound associations. French has it's own unique letter sound combinations that are not at all like English. I totally appreciate how hard you try. It isn't intuitive for sure. Micheal was very kind to help you learn the correct pronunciations. Very nice interview. I'm so excited for you on your rose 2022 trip and look forward to seeing your inspired content!

    I knew how to pronounce Eglantyne from Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks, she is one of the main characters. Angela Landsbery played her and I just had to have the rose in her honor. Treacle is basically dark Karo syrup.

    I used to type like Michael does, with one finger...and then I signed up for a typing class at my local Community College...within 4 weeks I was typing 70+ wpm, and I have never regretted the Time spent! :) It is so easy to train the fingers! :) Do it today, Sign up for Typing!

      Ahhhhh one of the reasons I want the LOS rose so much is because of how much I love the poem it's taken from, and specifically the musical version as performed by Loreena McKennitt, which hopefully CZcams will let me link to you here:

    Charming chap! I look forward to checking out his book! My love for roses started with Molineux. She was my very first rose and somehow withstood my newbie ways. She was on the brink of biting the dust and down to one cane. Apparently I wasn't watering enough nor feeding enough. I believe Molineux is a wonderful rose for beginners! I wasn't very familiar with the species roses, and I thank you both for bringing me this information.

    One of my fav's for Species Rose is Rosea Woodsii....it grows perfectly straight Canes on High and makes a Privet! :) Delicate Pink flowers, and so heavy are the thorns that they are like Hair on the cane! I need to get this back into my Garden! I spotted one near my Dentist office and have taken hips for seed, but no luck so far! I am tempted to take a cutting! :) Maybe today!

    What a charming conversation! I loved watching this. His cultural advice about R. sericea pteracantha is so valued - I just purchased this species and wasn't quite sure what to do with it :-)
    Your pronunciations are not so bad, most are French words, a language class would make you super confident! The one German name - Veilchenblau should be with a soft V (sounds like "f") and long i, like this czcams.com/video/GvHqUliQk10/video.html
    And you are absolutely correct about how shallot is pronounced in the USA!

    • @boeyman
      @boeyman Před 2 lety

      @@TheRoseGeek I'll bet you could pick up basic French really quickly! I do have Veilchenblau - a lot of people don't grow it because it's once-blooming, but that color is special :-)
