I absolutely love this song, even though I can’t relate at all I like to pretend as if I can relate. I wish I had more friends and a lover so that i could be miserable AND relate to lyrics more

Originally, Troy Tate was the producer for what would eventually become The Smiths' first album (1984's 'The Smiths'), some time after completing the album with Troy Tate the band met another producer, John Porter, while in the studio with the BBC's David Jensen. The band wanted John Porter to remix the songs produced by Tate as they were not certain about their quality however Porter felt that the songs were unsalvageable and offered to produce a re-recording of the album, which Morrissey and Marr agreed to. After a few months, John Porter's version of 'The Smiths' was completed and on February 20th 1984 the album we know and love was released!
