  • This is my tribute to the 747-300, this version of the queen of the skies was launched in 1980 and Swissair had been the launch customer with it's first aircraft by 1983. It featured improved air speed and passenger capacity to the hugely poplular 747-200 including the stretched upper deck.
    But only a few years later it was shaded by the launch of the 747-400 in 1985 with first delivery to NW in 1989 and had proved to be the best selling 747.
    SV used these birds as their flagship for many years and their F class product was extremely luxuroius and comfortable with large velvet seats (balck and on other aircraft dark maroon) with very large foor rests and recline that would create around 160 degrees in an almoast flat positon. (This product was far superior to even SV's 744 F class). J class which was marketed as Horizon Class was in the upper deck. Coupled with the SV's wonderful cuisine and outstanding service at that time it was a gem to fly.
    Nowadays they are in two class configarion with boring old fashioned F class in the front lower cabin while Y class in the upper deck and the remainder of the main cabin.
    As these birds approach the twilight of their years they still faithfully serve SV but on less decadent routes with far inferior inflight service. They still however look stunning in SV colors.
    Once SV finally retire them all (planned by October 2012) there will be less and less 743 flying around the world and they were be sorely missed.
    This is a compilation of some of my personal spotting film at RUH/OERK.
    Enjoy!
    Thumbs up and comments would be much appreciated!

    SV is by far one of my best airlines, Mainly because their livery looks so amazing on their 747's.

    We had these at Heathrow all the time dring the late 80's /early 90's
    Took 'em for granted ,now their gone
    But, we had two in on the same day (747-368) at LHR back in July 2011 for the Ramadan jetaway - also an A320 made an appearance that day -Rare for Heathrow
    Thanks for posting this !!

    @Starboard76 This is indeed a special one. The Albino SV was a treat. how would I love if at least one of the SV were in the old green colors, lots of memories. Knew you would like this one!

    Briliiant capture and you must have some great luck to catch these 3 babies on the move like this. And you even got good shots of the 'Albino Saudia 743'...I've been curious since you captured it briefly on one of your Jeddah trips. Nice job!

    @Palestine787 Thank you for watching.. glad you liked it.
    Although SV is surely NOT one of my faves. I totally agree with you that the 747 in the SV livery is an amazing thing.
    Actually the best "original" livery for the 747 is the SV livery in my opinion.

    @usmanchoudry Thank you for your comment and for watching my video.. much to see on my channel and more to come soon! - I flew the 743 a few times to JFK, IAD, MCO back when I was a kid, although I absolutely love how it looks on the current livery, the old green livery was so majestic for me I would get goose bumbs when I would fly a an SV 743 (but again that was back in the 80-early 90's)

    @MrFlashjet I know what you mean. The -300 was never popular, but that only meant a wonderful spotting opportunity for us!! Thank you for watching and commenting!

    'They will be sorely missed' - you can bet on that!! The Saudia tail livery looks like perfection on the jumbo. - A great video like this shows why it is it's so important to film even the most regular of aircraft because in time (and nowadays things change pretty fast) all these regulars become rarities! Do you think they will ditch the Saudi Arabian name on the current fleet to reflect the name change [ Saudia ?

    @am1966ath I would agree with you, although I was a kid at the time but truly I would get shivers when I saw the 300. I wonder why Boeing went with it as it seems it already had the 400 in mind (1985)

    @Starboard76 She's preserved at the aviation museum in riyadh (out in the sun and wilting) .

  • @hmasurg
    @hmasurg  Před 13 lety

    @Starboard76 you were lucky.. your 743 at MNL is something really special since there is so few of them online and it is a flight on an aircraft to a destination I have made many times.
    "One Alpha"... she's a machine of wonder.. I saw it in the old and new colors with SHINY engines and stingers and fuselage with the far more common PW engines. i wonder what the Royal family would decide to do with it once they get more and more new planes.. it is usually based in Europe as far as I know.

  • @hmasurg
    @hmasurg  Před 13 lety

    @frequentairbusflyer8 Thanks.. a special rare aircraft!

  • @hmasurg
    @hmasurg  Před 12 lety

    The 300 for sure. it is classic, rare and all well be gone by October, the 400 are planned to be around a little longer and mainly deployed to routes in the Far East. The 300 has some economy seats (no PTV of course) in the upper deck while the 400 does not but again they have many leased ones and may play around with the config.. Bottom line.. go for the 300!!!

  • @hmasurg
    @hmasurg  Před 13 lety

    @am1966ath I think SV is currently the largest 743 mainline scheduled operator, I heard that PIA has decided to retire it but I have seen one in Riyadh last time in May. And they still have the 742 fir Hajj as in my Jeddah spotting video so I wont be surprised if they keep it for some time. SV is planning all of them to be out by October 2012.

  • @Starboard76
    @Starboard76 Před 13 lety

    @hmasurg wow..One Alpha's actually based in Europe..would never have guessed that.
    Oh the Manila shot is just a tease, the orig is probably 5 mins long as I got it landing taxiing back to the gate, pushing back and take off along with a 2nd SV 743 doing the same thing.
    But my biggest regret was..never getting an SV 707 'on video' in the current scheme, I had the chance with the and HM ship..but missed it. Grinding my teeth ever since.

  • @hmasurg
    @hmasurg  Před 13 lety

    @MoizAR The strong rumor is that SV will introduce a new livery for the 77W.. which surprises me because the current one is only 16 years old or so and looks nice.. besides they just got so nany new airbus aircraft all in the current livery.

  • @shamk9
    @shamk9 Před 13 lety

    @am1966ath PIA still has 5 747-300's and 1 747-200, they use them on domestic flights and hajj services

  • @Starboard76
    @Starboard76 Před 13 lety

    @hmasurg ..I'm glad I got a few in the green scheme - L1011, l-1011-500, 747SP, 747-200 & 747-300. I guess I gotta put a few online since it seems my green SV in Manila seems to be a hit.
    BTW, have you ever seen HZ-HM1A, the 747-300 with gold everything on it? Esp. the gold 'stingers' on P&W JT9D engines? Shot that baby at JFK..it's a beauty it's in the current scheme, but still a true gem!

  • @am1966ath
    @am1966ath Před 13 lety

    also Malaysian airlines bought one or two..to fly to Tokyo and Los Angeles. SIA also bough the 747-300 mix passanger cargo..74D..Flew one from Copenhagen via Paris Orly and Colombo to Singapore..a 18hr journey with two long stops to load and unload the cargo..Colombo had a dinky toy airport at the time..today its twice the size.
    Those days are gone..I think that SV is one of the few who still have this bird mayby PIA has some????

  • @am1966ath
    @am1966ath Před 13 lety

    In 1983 the 743 was a very sophisticated airliner..sadly few ordered them prefering to soldier on with the 1970S old 747-200S especially american carriers,flying with timevery old 747S..PANAM was the worst...I flew SIA 743, LHR-SIN-DXB-LHR in 1988 and SR 743
    ZRH-BOS-ZRH in 1992...then on its only been 744.

  • @hmasurg
    @hmasurg  Před 13 lety

    @Starboard76 Same thing goes to an L1011 HZ-AHP.. sad.

  • @am1966ath
    @am1966ath Před 13 lety

    @hmasurg Mayby the 747 customers knew this..but the 743 also had quite a long range..in 1983 SIA introduced their 743 called big top between London and Singapore-nonstop..a sensation at the time as Qantas and British airways made a lot of stops on their way to Singapore and Australia..in Bahrain or Dubai or Muscat and even Bombay and then on to Singapore....I think that SQ,KLM,SR,QF and JAL bought this bird..and 2 to THAI to complement their old and tattered fleet of B747-200 which where awful.

  • @am1966ath
    @am1966ath Před 13 lety

    @hmasurg the EU put a ban on PIA fleet of A310S and 747S...so they only send the 777S to Europe and the 310S to Gulf and Far East..the 747S when used are obviously used for domestic trunkroutes..wow thats something..a 747 on domestic service..like in Japan...but in Japan the biggest 747-operator now has retired them all (JAL) and only have B777 and airbuses and smaller boeings...Haneda airport was a great airport to watch the action.
