  • Here is a quick video on how to add a extender onto your existing wired doorbell. We use the extend a chime system from Carlon. This one offers 6 chime styles.

    My old unit failed after 35 years of service, so I found this one on Amazon and ordered it. It arrived quickly without issue and was in a factory sealed container. The installation was simple and worked correctly first time. I didn’t experience the constant ring that you had so I only needed to change the type of chime sound I preferred. I’m happy with your video and also the product.

    I just installed on and it works GREAT! Follow the advice to reverse the “front” and “trans” wires during installation and you are good to go. I can now hear the doorbell from my upstairs man cave. Fantastic product and works as advertised!

    I purchased the Extend-A-Chime Carlon RC3200 at Canadian Tire (for the basement) and an additional chime Wireless Add-On Chime Carlon RC3733D for the garage. I hooked up the 3rd wire to rear post (not used) and ended up with a GONG instead of Chime. Disconnected the 3rd wire, a nice Westminster Chime is heard in basement and garage. Thank Mitch for your video.

    Thanks Mr Cox. I had a problem with the connection of the extend--a-chime that also kept ringing. As in your video, I made the changes.....transformer wire to the front door and front door to transformer...that worked perfectly. Only, I had a rear doorbell and when you pushed that button, the chime extender didn't work. Still following your advice, I move wires around. Moved transformer wire to rear door, rear door wire to transformer and let the front door remain with front door. That worked. The rear door gives only a dong sound and the front door the Westminster sound through the extender. Thanks again.

    My husband and I and I had same issue of continuous ringing with Carlson Extend-a-Chime as an add-on with our old Nutone circuit board driven system...the swap wire solution is genius. Worked perfectly after that even though other sites and a warning in packaging said it might not work with these type systems...surprised Carlson doesn't have this as fix somewhere. Wonder how many units have been returned because of it despite this simple solution! Thanks for sharing!

    But what if I need a repeater in every room? My sense of hearing isn't great, so ideally I want a chime in every room, possibly even the bathroom, as I could be in the bath when a delivery is made. It's happened several times. Then I get a card through the letterbox and have to make a trek to the post office to pick up my package.

    Very helpful video. I am trying to improve doorbell chime for my mom to hear. I am however disappointed that this extender is over $100 today. That seems too pricey. I will look for alternatives that are more affordable. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks

    By the way, my Chime is visible from the top and doesn't have the space to locate the Transmitter inside, so once the selection of the sound is finalized, I removed the screws holding the existing chime, enlarged the hole in the wall behind the chime to allow the transmitter to be located in the wall, and that's it!

    Can you hook up more than one of these units to your wireless doorbell extender to cover more rooms in the house.

    This one must be old based on what the youtube video date is. Its still on amazon but expensive compared to others. What new unit can replace it?

      The one featured in the video has several different chimes to choose from. Not sure if that is what you are asking. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Is there any way we can change the melody of the ringbell and input something else of our choice???

      Honeywell makes a similar device and you can get their series 9 doorbell which allows you to upload an mp3.

    Do you know what the range is for this unit? I'd like to put the extra bell in my garage.

    • @mitchcox
      @mitchcox  Před 8 lety

      I think the range will have a lot to do with how many walls it is going through, large furniture item in its path etc. I have mine about 50 ft or so away it it works just fine. Hope this helps.

    Do you have to turn off the electricity first??

    • @aeromedical6750
      @aeromedical6750 Před 6 lety +1

      Always shut off the power before dealing with electrical installation. There is enough voltage present to give a nasty shock. Always play on the side of safety.
