Are ADUs being built for low income San Diegans?

- Under the City of San Diego’s bonus ADU program, a developer can build more than one ADU on a property as long as every other unit they build on the lot is set aside for affordable rent. But according to city records, the program is not working as city leaders had hoped.
A perfect example can be seen in the College East neighborhood, where six brand new ADUs just went up on a lot that used to have just one single family home.
“This is density plopped down in the middle of a neighborhood,” said Danna Givot with Neighbors for a Better San Diego.
She says there's not a single unit in that College East complex, or another one being built around the corner, that is reserved for people with low or very-low incomes.
“It’s not doing what was intended - which was to create affordable housing. Truly affordable housing in higher income opportunity zones.”

everyone acting shocked as if this isn't what the rich has done to take advantage of the poor since the beginning of time
I’m glad a lot of people are starting to wake up to this man. A few years back everyone was blaming the workers
@@rasputinspickledpeepee1976 lol you think "the rich" is confined to those two neighborhoods whereas they are now buying properties cheap and upscaling them and pricing populace out. or did you not watch the video?
Nah. /
Gloria has given everything to the developers. Might as well just say the developers lead this city and not Gloria.
It’s not built for low income it’s built for whoever can afford going for the highest bid if you can’t afford it you’re out from the list.
of course NOT.! between city fees, county taxes and contractors Greed knows no bounds Everyone wants their "cut" of the action....
Greedy developers
Those places are built for the RICH people and NOT the POOR!!! The POOR people gets to sleep in a box ON THE STREETS!!! But YET society HATES the homeless!! So the POOR STILL LOSES in the END NO MATTER on HOW many houses/apartments are built!!!
These city approved adu's are expensive to build. I doubt most low income would afford these rents
Very low income rentals set at $1300 a month? Seems high to me. What do they think very low income is? $3K a month?
I mean ya, 3k a month is 40 hour a week minimum wage job lol
Min wage is $20 an hour at McDs now and there are 2,080 working hours in a year, which equals $41,600. This is low income now.
Time everyone demands a raise!
Nothing but vampires here
Looks like it's rental heaven for college students.
No. ADUs in California were not pitched as a low income housing effort. This was done at a state level and to alleviate the lack of housing and also , somewhat, control the market prices.
Bingo, the states intention was more housing and ADUs are providing more housing. Without Government Subsidies there will not be affordable housing for low income families like Section 8 or Federal 235 Housing programs.
City leaders.....as usual are totally and completely wrong! The indiscriminate building of these ADU's are ruining neighborhoods. In the Los Cerritos area of SD, I have seen an ADU built next to the original little house and now instead of one resident with one mailbox, there are now five mailboxes. Also, they have absorbed the original two car garage into the multi-unit dwelling, so there is no parking other then street parking!! Five or more cars now must park on the street, further congesting the neighborhood. City leaders=morons.
But they are well paid and insured morons who think people with very low income can still afford a $1300 a month medium studio.
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is lier and murderer. This is the reason why liers and murderers feel so good.
That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom.
Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our beloved ones again! :-)
Just getting ready for the illegal influx
You have your driveway, what do you need the street for
ADU cost start at $250K+, Investors need to hit their breakeven point sooner not later. What is the point of building ADU when it takes 20 years to profit? There are better investments available then ADU. The politicians knew this but the sound bits were to good to pass up. Promising "Affordable Housing" got them elected. What do San Diegans get in return?; crowded neighbors and loss of our coastal cities. You will see soon enough coastal communities will have high rises blocking our views and cool ocean winds. With each passing Affordable Housing law the CA Coastal Commission power to protect the states coastal region are reduced. Remember the CA coast and ocean breezes is our driving reason for living in San Diego.
@@Napoleon-xp3sm that's right, move a 2-5 miles east like most of us. Then we can all continue to enjoy of CA coastline. Is that asking for too much?
1-1 = $1000 not $2500
Those things are going to be sky high
Nope
Better off buying a home and renting out the rooms and converted garage.
They're building them to rip 3,000 a month in rent
The city gets their cut too, through property taxes.
They are built for then the in-laws visit, rich people don’t want poor people on their property
Not going work sorry‼️
Ruining sandiego.😪😪😪😪😪
Bro it was ruined in 2010 when New York Times wrote the articles about north park.
the birds have nests ,the animals have homes but the son of man has none .
Drug abuse and mental illness are key reasons why people don't want to rent to super low income people. Maybe if we had universal health care and mental health care, it could actually affect the housing crisis in a positive way?
@@Napoleon-xp3sm "stout roadways" "Poors". Where you writing from? Russia?
@@Napoleon-xp3sm Wow, for being in "a house on a hill in San Diego", you sure can't spell for squat. But then again, what do you expect from a youtube troll who hates poor people?
@@rasputinspickledpeepee1976 It's even more funny you fail to see the connection between lack of mental health services and a proliferation of hoarding houses.
@@Napoleon-xp3sm dude, ease up on that meth.
@@rasputinspickledpeepee1976 Tell that to a healthcare professional. Mental health services is healthcare. The reason we have so many mentally ill people is they don't have access. Other countries with Universal heathcare don't have that issue BECAUSE they have a robust mental healthcare system. It isn't conflating. Mental healthcare IS healthcare.
There's 0 low income housing. Why don't you point your new stations at our government and the lack of making things affordable. Cost of living is beyond what the mass majority even makes.
Democrat law makers will never help the poor real estate industry gives them too much money to do this
Greed
It’s a scam
If you don’t believe that the Messiah:
· Was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14)
· Lived a sinless life (Isaiah 53:9)
· Sacrificed His life for others (Daniel 9:26)
· Resurrected on the third day (Psalm 16:10, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
· Is now interceding for us before the Father (Psalm 110:1, Hebrews 7:25)
· Will come in the clouds to take us to be with Him (Daniel 7:13, 1 Thessalonians 4:17)
· Will return to the earth to reign with us (Zechariah 14:3-4)
Then you don’t know Him; You only know of Him.
Jesus is the Son of God. 🙂
