Pruning The Wild Thing, My Thuja occidentalis, The Bonsai Zone, Nov 2023

  • I'm pruning this Eastern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis) cascade tree in a different manner, no branch removal, just shortening the new growth each year. The tree will then grow into it's own freestyle form.
It will be interesting to see how "The Wild Thing" develops!
I also get a wonderful gift from Tom of the CZcams channel "Grow & Clip Bonsai for Seniors"!
Here is a link to his channel....

Stay tuned for some nice fall updates at the end of the video!

The wild Thuja will be an interesting tree to follow over the years. Great fall color update, too!
The new light also looks handy. I hope it works well!
    Happy New Year, Nigel!

That Thuja continues its journey nicely. I do like that apple - always have. My larches are looking just the same. Cheers Nigel :)

I admire your restraint with that thuja, I would have dug in there and try to shape it right away. I understand you try to grow it thicker. Wouldn’t it be better to get it in a bigger pot for the fattening up phase?

Fantastic video and updates! Tom is also fantastic! I love those types of instructions! I keep many! I have a body sticker, not a fake tattoo, it's a reusable sticker for your skin, similar to the static window stickers. The label read " Can be stuck on or stuck off for several times" It one of my favorite ones. Kids clothing label that say "wash inside out with like colours. Remove child before washing" LOL

Nigel, Don't you think this tree would look more AWESOME if you made a structure that looked like a cliff in a pot. Just imagine that this tree is growing on the side of a cliff.

The light has 2 settings for daytime for a dark room. Plus 4 for in the evening. I hope it works out in saving electricity.

I immediately looked it up, and saw the different settings, very versatile settings! Dim light and motion sensor bright etc. Cool product!

To bad you could not play the song: Wild Thing by The Troggs for an opening to this cool tree. Copyrights is what holds us up.

I always sing it in my head! Wild Thing is one of the first songs I learnt on the guitar from CZcams. I wonder how those videos manage copyright?
