As people continue to try and beat the heat officials are reminding people to stay safe on the waterways. "We spend most of our day patrolling around, watching the water and the confluence is one of our most active spots for visitation," said Brady Bennigson, State Parks Lifeguard. While the American River confluence in Placer County is extremely beautiful, it can also be extremely dangerous. "Especially in this area, there's rapids that we call them flip flop, because it will flip and then flop you off the rafts right into the water," Bennigson said.
