What an era. Just cant find this energy anymore. You go to festivals or clubs now and everyone is just trying to look good or strutting. No dancers, no energy, no love for music. Its all about big bass drops but no journey. Love to all those that experienced this era and allowed the music to take control.

What made this era so special was a combination of events and circumstances which came together at once: Years of political oppression, a brand new music (House/ Acid House) coupled with MDMA - a new drug to party with. Regardless of its effects and illegality it definitely opened people up socially and went perfectly with the 4/4 grooves of House. It felt like a resistance to the status quo and there were no regulations to stop the parties for a while. Also, the scene grew organically by the people and for the people. The authorities couldn't just take out a figurehead and hope the scene died- it was a proper movement of like-minded souls who just wanted to party. I really hope I live to see something else revolutionary like it in the not-too-distant future. Peace.

I was a regular of Helter Skelter in Milton Keynes, Moondance in Scotland, kelly's & Circus Circus in Ireland, Shelley's in Stoke, Orbital all-nighters, I was munted in every one. I went to all the, Universal Global Gatherings, Fantazia, Homelands & Megadog events. I seen it grow, change, diverse, and expand. I am honoured to have witnessed such a social movement. I had an extensive range of friends, colour or religion did not matter. In '92 my weed dealer was this Iranian muslim guy and he was friendly but conservative. I convinced him to come to a rave and he brought his wife, lol. They never looked back, in total 8 of his extended friends also muslims became hooked and dropped pils like no tomorrow. They are no longer muslim. That is the power of Rave. But just for sheer best event, Sunrise '89 was the pinnacle of them all.

If you were there, you were part of something that was truly beautiful, we were all party children, all friends, no attitude, no egos, we danced together, passed spliffs ( 2 drag pass) shared water, hugged strangers, helped strangers if they were struggling to be headstrong, it was all ours, just for us. It evolved so very very fast, it will never ever happen again, youth culture is a very dark animal now, back then, with all the shite pop industry garbage being churned out and being stuck in Thatchers Britain, we needed something exclusive that went completely against the system, an outlet, 87-89, the acid era laid the foundations but 90-93 we built something that will stand forever. The music, the drugs, the atmosphere and every other aspect of it fitted as perfectly as the white glove, it swept across the whole of the UK like a tsunami, the authorities had no way to stop it, warehouses and fields were where you would find us every single weekend. In the end, the house of lords passed a bill to stamp it all out and it was pushed into the clubs completely, the pianos played out, Jungle came in, the girls disappeared along with all of the lazers and it all went very dark. I am 47 now, seeing these videos makes me so fucking proud to have been part of it but also it almost gives me a lot of pain as even now, I still miss it so very much, I think all of us who were there will feel the same, I would dearly love to go back there again, even if it was for just one night.....

Not just stand packed together like a bunch of penguins like at todays edm shows adoring the dj like he's some sort of highpriest or something. Back then we had no people throwing up those stupid girlie heart-signs like they do today. Back then the dj was exactly just that....a proper dj. He provided the music the punters came to DANCE to. Today these kids go to a show to see dj so and so hit a couple of buttons, twist some knobs and spread his arms like he's greatest thing here mother Earth.

I am glad I was born in the 70s to experience the end of this sound and the beginning of drum and bass. Music sounded crazy futuristic at the time. I miss the whole experience of partying, right down to the after party chill come down situation. I lost a lot of direction in my party days and most others I knew back then did likewise. Wouldn't change it

89 - 92 the Rave scene was untouchable, the peak years, 3 years of some serious raves. Fantasia, Amnesia, Pandemonium, Dreamscape, Mythology.......the list goes on. From the Eclipse, Hacienda, Ministry of Sound, Shelleys, Coast to Coast. It's hard to explain just how good these days were. If the 60's were for the hippies, well the late 80's and early nineties were for the ravers. If your touching your late 40's plus, you know the score!!!
