  • Bluing steel with heat was a technique to color the metal but also to see the temperature from the color when the thermocameras did not yet exist.
    It seemed like an interesting topic to me, so here's a video.

    This is awesome information. I did this to my gun’s barrel after I stripped the blueing off and now I have a purple barrel

      Wouldn't that ruin the heat treatment for the barrel and lead to the rifling wearing out faster?

    Can i use Autosol metal polish after doing this to prevent oxidating ?

      A bit of oil it's fine. No polish.. You remove it. Maybe wax
