On “My Car Story” we're in Amelia Island FL at the “The Amelia” The Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance on 3-5-22.
We’re looking at a 1956 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria Skyliner “Glass Top” in Fiesta Red Paint. The car features a 292 CI V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Allen Boutiette. Allen’s had this car since 2007. Allen shares he has four 1950’s Ford Victoria’s and this one is the most optioned car with 30+ Factory & Dealer options, and this car has factory air conditioning too. Reason he has so many of these cars is he had a 1950’s Ford as a kid and loves the car!

Great Job Lou!
👏🏻
I love it. Beautiful
I built 56 wagon @15old
This has got to be one of the best looking cars ford ever made.
High praise :-)
That is about the rarest car with all those options
You're right.
Loved the Crowned Vic... My brother in law bought one new in Durham NC in 1956. Brings back memories. Thanks Lou 👍
Hi Larry, Happy to read you "Loved the Crowned Vic" :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your Brother In Laws car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
What a show piece this one is, thanks for the tour guys. . . :>/
Hi Dr Candor, High praise :-) You're welcome, Lou
A one of a kind automobile. Absolutely fantastic. It was a privilege to be able to see this classic. All the best.
Looks like Aunt Bea, got all dressed up for the dance party.....💃
Hi Uri, Happy Mayberry ride for Aunt Bea :-) Lou
Oh wow i love the grill and the hood it looks amazing. And those taillights wow
Hi Landon, Happy to receive a "Oh wow" from you :-) Lou
Everything on this classic Ford got to love the old skyliners
Hi Larry, Happy to read you "got to love" this one :-) Lou
1956 was the rarest Skyliner "glass top" Fords. I have a '54 and a '56. Both fully restored correctly. My '56 has the 312 engine.
Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Glad to read you have a 56 too!
Unreal, Thanks Lou
You're welcome Clark :-)
The color, the chrome, the roof.....WOW.......THANKS Lou.
Hi Mike, Happy to read the details you enjoy :-) You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful Crown Vic- and talk about fully equipped.
Just spectacular! Thank you Lou!
High praise Jeff :-) You're welcome.
Love those Crown Victoria Glass top . There beautiful cars.
Hi Norm, Happy to read this is one you love :-) Lou
What a beauty! I always liked that air conditioning installation on these '56 Fords. I always thought it was weird, though, that the '56 Mercury was using a trunk-mounted unit with the air scoops on the rear quarter sides. I remember as a little kid being fascinated with the car ads in my parents' old National Geographics, and this was the year that they had the ads touting the safety features, with a red-and-white car like this. Were I buying a car in the Big Three in '56 I think it'd be a tough choice between the fine '56 Chevy, this '56 Ford and the very nice '56 Plymouth. Kudos to this fine man for not 'restomodding' it!
Hi LoveIsAll, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thank you for sharing details you notice. There are 3 nice choices in 56.....just buy one of each :-) Lou
56 Chevy didn't have a any model with the luxury of that Crown Victoria FORD!
That's for sure , no belair made would ever compare to the 56 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria Sunliner coupe.. Well done Ford....
1957 Chev is really a 1956 Plymouth lol
Everything is the same as it was in 1956, only YOU are there! Thank you Lou Costabile and Allen Boutiette.
Hi Jed, Happy to take you back to the Ford Showroom in 1956 with this model :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Air conditioning in a 56. That was just an unimaginable luxury at that time. People were reluctant to spring for an automatic let alone AC. My dad had a 56 Crown VIc without the top glass in the sixties. It wasn't near as nice as this one even at that time. Fabulous car!!
High praise :-) Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
You said it....staggering to see factory a/c in a 56 ford...even caddys and top of line buicks/olds, it was a rareity...plus the power windows and seats...unreal...folks today take it for granted...back then...mind blowing....
Yeah, and it's a 1 of 30 Fairlane with this rare option....Beautiful second year Ford Fairlane Sunliner coupe...
This is the finest 56 Ford I have ever seen 👍👍
High praise :-)
Hi Lou, my dad had a 56 Fairlaine and it was the first car I ever drove looking through the steering wheel.
That Thunderbird fender badge let everyone know what was under the hood!
I remember how old it looked when I was a kid compared to the cars of the seventies but it was only 15 years old! The styles really changed from the fifties to the sixties and made them look old. Now 15 year old cars blend right in!
Hi Col.henchicken Vanpopbutton, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
It’s a beautiful car and I love it! Impressed by the number of options especially the factory air. Don’t care for some of the options like the cow catcher grille guard or the Continental Kit but I know tastes vary!
I agree with you Craig. Often (with 50's cars) "less is more". Just because it may be an option, doesn't mean it should be there. I don't like the grille guard or Continental kit either, nor the fender skirts. Somehow, they look less horrible on this '56 Ford than the standard equipment I've seen on '57 Chevy convertibles that absolutely ruin their looks. Oh, and those awful extra mirrors!
Hi Craig, High praise :-) Lou
I'm with you on the continental kit and the grill guards. The grill bars would probably be appropriate on a 1956 Ford used as at New York taxi at the time. Why spoil the appearance of a beautiful grill with an ugly utility bar. That's just my opinion. The car is spectacular nevertheless. 4:24 4:24
Damn, Lou! You just keep bringing home-run products to your channel. What a FANTASTIC car and your knowledge and hard work to get these owners to show their cars cannot be appreciated enough! You are such a resource and your channel continues to grow and to show even better cars! Thank you for all you do!
Hi ultraviolet tp, Happy this one knocks it out of the park :-) I appreciate your kind words, it's very encouraging. You're welcome, Lou
Very nice! I love that glass top and all the other great options Mr. Boutiette has on his classic Crown Vic! If it's at the Amelia, you know it will be a treat to see. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read "I love that glass top and all the other great options Mr. Boutiette has on his classic Crown Vic!" :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
My favorite Ford of the 50’s.
NICE !
Dealership: Which options would you like?
Car buyer: EVERY ONE 😝
NICE !
Really beautiful and unique '56 Ford, Lou. That 'band' that went over the top was kind of astonishing. The car was still a top-of-the-line coupe (not a 2-door "sedan") despite the 'interference' in the middle there. I don't think Ford used this idea again until the 1977-'79 T-Bird. That check mark along the side was originally supposed to be on the '55 T-Bird, and indeed did appear in some ads in late '54, but Ford deleted it before production. I never knew why, but am guessing they felt it was too much for the much smaller car to handle/pull off looks-wise?
Hi Rob, Happy to read the details you enjoy :-) Lou
Wow....... rare AF!!! Just beautiful.
High praise :-)
I always wanted to see a glass top lou, I'm gonna enjoy this
Hi Bruce, Happy to share this car with you :-) Lou

Happy to read you enjoy this car FUBAR Model Yard :-)
Truly fabulous Lou. Sublime piece of US steel.
High praise Simon :-)
Someone had some money and checked all the right box's when ordering this car new. I seen a 68 GTO convertible that had 27 factory options on it. That was the most I had ever seen on a car. My Uncle had a Green and white 56 Crown Victoria in 1966 through the mid 1970s. Had the 312 V8 and automatic. He used to tell me that he wished the speedometer went higher because he could get it up to 120 mph easily. It wasn't a glass top car. Just a 312 V8 and automatic transmission and contential kit (which he pulled off after buying it) and power steering and brakes. It got backed into by an 18 wheeler trailer in the side at a chicken plant that he worked at. Sadly it was crushed after that.
Hi PlymouthDuster225, Sounds like your Uncle has a great car :-) Sorry to read he end result :-( Lou
Beautiful Crown Victoria ! Always loved this model Ford. Thanks Lou !
Hi Rudy, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this one :-) You're welcome, Lou

My first car ever was the Vicki 2 door hardtop
. Bought it in '68 for $130. Needless to say as a teenager I couldn't leave it "stock". Mags, Holley, Isky, Mallory, Headman, and a blue metallic paint job!

¡Saludos cordiales!
Hi Jaime, High praise for the looks of this car :-) Appreciate the kind words on the video, Lou

Hello from Canada. RESPECT!
Hello Eric, Happy to share this car with you, Lou
That’s an extremely rare and special car! One could buy a Cadillac for what this Ford cost! The buyer really had to be stuck on Fords, but the Crown Victoria WAS a very popular car. This one most likely was special ordered by the first owner, or the dealership.
Hi Jeffrey, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
What a beautiful car!
Hi Clare, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou

The two best sounding V8/dual exhausts are the Ford Y-block and the Buick Nailhead engines.

A real beauty Lou-nice pick
Hi Robert, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
I love the glass top ford
Nice :-)
I had one , very same spotlight . I had it painted a Chev ( gasp ) colour , deep aqua metallic, it had a cover that you could cram into the inside crown molding and I mean cram lol it zippered closed to keep some of the green house effect under control ( no air conditioner ) and it had the old air cooled automatic . Great car , but a way to heavy for the 312 thunderbird engine it came with . I did keep it stock , right down to the hubcaps

Lou it’s a shame that you don’t have and see that kind of craftsmanship in our automobile industry anymore that’s when people took pride in what they were creating and building from the automobile to the infrastructure of the country. Ivan J
Ivan J, Good news is you come to this Channel and we'll preserve those memories :-) Lou
IN CANADA, FORD HAD THE CANADIAN METEOR DIVISION, WITH A FORD BODY AT FIRST AND A MERCURY INTERIOR, MERCURY WAS DISCONTINUED IN CANADA AT THE END OF THE 1962 MODEL YEAR, TO BE CALLED MERCURY METEOR IN THE 1970'S AND EVENTUALLY, THE METEOR WAS DISCONTINUED.

Ford called the Connie kit a "Rear bumper mounted spare tire" in their literature. It's interesting Ford introduced an automatic transmission in 1951 but didn't figure out until around 1960 that is was OK to start the car in Park. Prior to that you had to put the car in neutral to start it. I have no idea why.

My dad had a Mainline, 172 three speed on the column. I remember several things that went wrong. The steering box was attached to the fire wall and can away from it. The front shocks broke away from the lower A frames and had to be reattached. I drew up a repair ring to remount them. Dad had them made at work. The ship yard machine shop.

Hi Vincent, Just have one of each and pick them both :-) Lou
awesome ! for me the better, bigger version from a t-bird !
it is a pity that he is not two-tone !
there were so many beautiful color combinations with the model.
but no matter the car is overall very nice.
Hi A. E., Happy to read 'awesome !" :-) Lou
I wonder how well the a/c did cooling the car? with the vents on top of the dash and the glass top. I would say that there's a lot of heat coming in.
Hi Steve, Good point. I'm not sure who well the car would stay cool, Lou
Yea when it has the real crown going across the roof. I never owned one but I did have a 56 Mercury

About as far as one could go in the Ford lineup for 1956
Hi Gary, You're right. Lou
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to stay there on top of the step area of the car?, 7:12
Hi Lucas, I reply to 1st comments, so if you comment again I'll see your comment. I do not know what you mean "top of the step area of this car?" Lou
I see you shared standing on the top of the "continental kit" @ 7:15 of the video. That is not a "step area" so can you, you can step there, but it's a single piece of sheet metal with no support for a step, Lou
😎
