@Angelo Bronte Water doesn't clean off anything. On the contrary, it tends to amplify odours. Have you ever worn a gym t-shirt that wasn't washed well enough...even if you use deodorant, as soon as you start sweating a bit, the clean sweat activates the old and dried sweat molecules and the shirt starts smelling bad instantly.
I thought it was alcohol, and it could be...but unless you cover everything with alcohol, it won't be able to neutralize all odours and it will evaporate soon afterwards. Vinegar on the other hand, even if it doesn't touch and neutralize all the odours...it continues emitting its own smell for a long time, effectively covering less powerful odours.
In response to OP, I guess the Darkseekers don't really think a lot about specific odours. Just like dogs and cats, if they smell food or their loved ones, they are attracted to it. But if you cover some meat with vinegar, they probably won't even go near it...they won't think: Oh, this strange smell makes me suspicious :P

We find out in Eternal that DoomMarine somehow wound up in Argent D'nur after taking a legit pounding and his Pissed-Off™ seems to be pretty permanent. Seraphim gives him #UltimatePowa after he demonstrates in the gladiator pit he can go with the best of the Sentinels. That doesn't make him immortal, just a heckin _lot_ stronk and sanic-fast (hence the double jump/dashing/wallpawnch stuff). @heathermillsphantomlimb9314 Před 9 měsíci +52

@@yurikagarinstan674 the movie completely inverted the entire point of the book. Neville spent his days going from place to place, killing any of these creatures he found sleeping in beds and other dark places. He experimented on them so he could find the most efficient methods of killing them. He became a literal Bogeyman to them, even though he thought he was doing good and helping to bring the world back to normal. He was so preoccupied with getting rid of the “monsters” that he didn’t realize (until the end of the story) that he was the monster in a new world that had moved on without him. He’d assured by the end that the new “normal” people would always remember him and the fear he instilled in them, hence the title of the book. It was a lot more impactful and interesting than just some virologist who found a way to bring the old ways (which caused the apocalypse to begin with) back. It was a metaphor on conservatism, and how those who refuse to change see everyone else as enemies that needed to be destroyed. In the book, the vampires had intelligence, enhanced abilities, and some memories of their old lives. They weren’t just mindless monsters. There was no chance for a cure, and the vampires themselves led meaningful lives, and it was Neville who was the true threat to a new “humanity.”

    - Good main character. Really showed us how he survived so long. Erasing his scent, setting up multiple alarms based on a morning book, fortified base, locks the dvd store so he knows whether someone has broken in or not. He is also a genius, not just someone who has a ton of weapons.
    - Showed us what isolation can do to a person. He was desperate. Talking to manequins. Made me even think that it was he who put Fred there and not the darkseekers. Even after he met people he was still super awkward because he hadn't been talking to people for 3 years.

One where Neville throws the grenade through the broken glass, this one, and one where we find out the darkseeker in Neville's lab is the alpha's daughter, and give her back so they leave him alone. Millitary Families being evacuated has always been an interesting concept to me. It's very likely that a lot of those Soldiers in the Flashback had family in New York City. Imagine being activated in an Emergency like this and being told to abandon your family. It's one thing if your family is safe on a base or stuck across the Country where you can't reach them anyway, but the idea that National Guard and Reserve Forces would just up and leave their families at home during something like a Zombie Outbreak is insane to me.

A lot of people however didn’t do this and tried to bury their loved ones which often led to them being shot on sight. Those that did get buried or left dead are the infected that now roam at night.

For me, a strange part about this movie is that there weren't any stray dogs or cats for Robert to adopt. Maybe the reason why there weren't any is because the darkseekers either ate them or turned them into darkseeker dogs, but there were plenty of deer and even the lions (You actually see the lion family in the alternate ending, fun fact)
Or maybe lots of the pet dogs like Sam couldn't survive on their own, without their owner.

You cannot have false negatives, but false positives are more acceptable. Especially for quarantine. You quarantine a false positive, and nothing happens. Its just a little inconvenient. And as shown, you can test multiple times for better results. If you suffer from false positives, but no false negatives any negatives will tell you they are safe.

My thoughts on the "Neville should have moved his lab to a Navy ship." -- Neville was confident that he could find a cure within two weeks, and up until the end of the flashbacks the fall of society hadn't began. Before the airstrikes, the evacuating crowds weren't hostile. Hindsight is 20/20, but with zero warning, there was no hindsight. By the time of the airstrikes, it was already too late to relocate his lab (and himself) off of Manhattan. --
The other issues are the statistics Neville pointed out. 5.4 billion people (out of 6 billion) died immediately. "Crashed and bled out." 588 million turned into Darkseekers. 12 million immune. Its unknown what percentage of these three categories were military, law enforcement, pilots, government leadership, and what percentage were non-essential personnel or civilians. Going by the appearance of post-apocalypse Manhattan, the only damage from bombs and missiles appear to be the bridges. No collapsed buildings, burnt out windows, bullet holes, no bomb craters, napalm, no bodies even. -- I can only that the immune military forces in and around Manhattan didn't last very long. We see that the Darkseekers can organize, plan, set traps, which makes them far more of a threat than the fast zombies. If there were any surviving Navy battlegroups that got the warning to stay away from any population centers or anywhere the airborne virus was present...they wouldn't come anywhere close to Manhattan. As they would lose 99% of their crews. -- Anna said she was on a cruise ship for a while, with Neville agreeing that they would eventually need to resupply (and become exposed).
Just my thoughts. Not meaning to argue, I liked this movie for what it was and enjoy questions that make me think about what happened and why.

I think an good idea would be to deploy cameras across the city so at night you can witness and study Darkseeker behaviours.
Another idea would be to renovate Warehouses that have UV lights across the walls and ceiling with a speaker system at the center. You could also place explosives all around the location. At night remotely turn on the sound, drawings dozens of Darkseekers there. Once enough are inside, turn on the lights, killing dozens in the process. The hundreds outside will also die when you activate the explosives outside.
Keep creating more and more traps across the city to cull down their numbers.

6:07 - Okay, the watch beeping at 5;23pm could make perfect sense. I'll explain:
    First, some facts:
    - He's in NYC
    - The movie is set in 2012
    - The grass is tall and brown, a hint that it's late summer or early autumn
    - He's wearing a leather jacket and not heavily sweating. I.e., it's not hot, and it's not super cold.
    - Lions typically give birth to young in May/June. The cubs shown are quite small, but walking well... they appear to be roughly 3 months old.
    - When he turns to look at the sun, it's about 15° above the horizon, more or less (seen at 6:12 in the video), consistent with about an hour before sunset.
    - His watch actually says 5;22 when we see it, not 5;23 as the narrator says (I'm using semicolons so CZcams won't convert to video timestamps)
    Now, some reasonable speculations:
    - Dr. Neville is a smart guy. He understands that the time the sun actually sets varies widely throughout the year, especially in the more northern latitudes.
    - It makes sense that he would have located a sunrise/sunset calendar, or has simply noted the times the sun sets from surviving for 3 years. (EDIT: Indeed, as @elteescat notes below, "At the beginning of the movie we see him consult a Farmer's Almanac then set his watch. I always thought he was checking the sunset time. Then, when his alarm beeps and he turns to look at the sun, it reaffirms the idea.")
    - He knows the Darkseekers come out at night (mostly), but they seem to tolerate SOME light okay.
Finally, some less reasonable (but still logical) speculation:
    - His drop-dead "cutoff" for being outside is probably the moment the sun disappears below the horizon. This is the end of official daylight and the beginning of civil twilight. Even though it's still pretty easy to see during civil twilight, there is no direct sunlight, so he'd probably consider it unacceptably risky.
    - He'd want to maximize his useful time outside, so giving himself a 1 hour warning before official sunset to get home would make sense.
    - He's probably not bothered with Daylight Saving Time (DST) since civilization is gone and using it serves no purpose otherwise.
Given the above, I posit that his alarm went off exactly one hour before official sunset on *September 4th, 2012* (which occurred in NYC at 7;22pm, or critically, 6;22pm if we ignore DST). Further, the historical average high/low temperature in NYC on September 4th is 80°F/66°F, respectively, so his attire would also make sense for the season.
    Notes:
    - There is an alternative scenario where it could be October 10th if he was in fact on DST - the sun did set at 6;22pm (DST) on that date. Also, the weather is still reasonable at 67°/53° historically on that date, so it all fits. Actually, I liked this date first because I remembered his radio broadcasts referring to "noon", making DST calculations mandatory. However, I when I re-listened, I realized he doesn't refer to noon at all. Instead he says "I will be at the South Street Seaport at mid-day, when the sun is highest in the sky". This changed my mind about him using DST.
    - This whole exercise almost came crashing down on me because there was NO date (at least in 2012) that the sun set at exactly 6;23pm as the narrator says. It was either 6;22 or 6;24. I abandoned it until I went back to re-watch and noticed his watch actually said 6;22! :)
    - Yes, it's entirely possible he set is watch to beep forty-five minutes before sunset, or an hour and fifteen minutes before sunset, but an hour seems an obvious and rational choice. I really don't think it would be 2 hours, because the sun doesn't appear high enough to me. However...
    - My theory could be proven/disproven by someone smarter than me, or by a NYC local by figuring out his exact location and using the buildings, landmarks, and other contextual clues to calculate the exact azimuth and elevation of the sun to determine the precise date, time, and how long before sunset it actually was. Of course, for this to work, we'd have to assume that either the movie was shot exactly on the date and time in question, or the CGI folks are gods and paid extraordinary attention to detail.
    - This video was uploaded on September 4th, 2020, exactly 8 years after my theorized date. The coincidence is too cool NOT to be true!
Yes, I know this comment is super long. Sorry if you died of old age from reading it. It was a fun exercise for me, though :)

About Bethel...its 275 miles away and only a few degrees colder. What I can't understand is how Anna would know about the safe zone there, but not Neville. -- Anyway, so when Anna and son reach Bethel, there's some kind of beeping sound then the gate unlocks and opens. It was my impression that they scanned both of them, tested negative, and the gates were then opened. -- If that was not the case (the beeping just being the gate being unlocked)... we know that the Krippin virus either outright kills the host or makes them otherwise fatally vulnerable to UV rays. They are in broad daylight, no symptoms, no signs of discomfort, no bite marks, no indicators of infection.
Lastly, we don't know anything about the persons living within the Bethel safe zone to know whether there was a virologist living there or not. I don't recall Neville stating that he was the last one living, and even if he believed that, he had no way to be certain. He didn't even know there was a safe zone in Bethel, and didn't believe Anna when she informed him. -- If there were no virologists in Bethel, it stands to reason there are other safe zones, further north in Maine or in Canada. (If the cold weather is a deterrent against the spread of the virus...I can't see how they would suffer the same 99% casualties as the warmer climates, but I digress.

World War Z and I Am Legend. Two film adaptations totally undeserving of using the same titles of the source material

Well, i’m not sure if its a different type of ACOG, but i am pretty sure that its a 3 through 9x sight, and the eotechs are 1 through 4 or 5 times multiplier. Not a fault on you, just something i was thinking of.
I really enjoy these, too. They’re pretty fun to watch

The barrels of gas are called Fougasse(foo gas). It is a improvised napalm used in perimeter defense. The fuel has styrofoam or detergent added to it to make sticky and thick. You use it so besides burning some dudes it also illuminates the kill zone/blast zone. It also denies that area to attackers as most people don't like to crawl through fire. He could also have claymore mines set up but their explosion was masked by the Fougasse. Eotec holographic sights are great but he may not have had batteries for them. The Acog uses sun light or tritium so no batteries needed. This was a excellent analysis and video. I'm kinda blown away by it actually. I don't know if anyone else has considered this but I am fascinated with what led up to the point where he has the family tragedy and what happens in the years leading up to where we encounter Dr Nevell. What happens to his security detachment and how do things fall apart around him and the country. Anyway keep up the good work
