How to make PAINT-YOUR-OWN (PYO) Cookies for EASTER

- Hey Sweeties, as many of us are in quarantine right now I thought I will share this tutorial to help you create something that your kids can enjoy as in-home activities and hopefully keep them entertained for a sometime while we collect our sanity lol 😅 just kidding...actually...not really😜🙈
Anyway, I'm sure you have seen these Paint-Your-Own aka PYO Cookies before, they are so popular during kids birthday parties or any seasonal celebration like Easter, Thanksgiving, Valentine, Christmas etc as they are the perfect combination of dessert and activity. They can keep children entertained for a little while and best of all they can eat their creation afterwards because they are fully edible and sooo yummy! Yassss 🙌😁😜
I'm going to share the most popular way of making PYO cookies, which is to use a stencil. If you don't feel super confident in your royal icing skills, that's okay...you can also make these PYO cookies with some ready to roll fondant. Just grab some fondant from the grocery store or make your own if you prefer to do it and have the ingredients at home.
Oh and btw, these cookies also known by many other names Color-A-Cookie, Paint-A-Cookie, but i refer to them as PYO = Paint-Your-Own Cookies.
I'm also showing you the most convenient way of adding the edible paint, so for those of you who doesn't own any airbrush you can still make these cookies coz they are using yummy chocolate M&Ms.
I make the chocolate cookies on purpose so it will go together with the chocolate M&M flavour....yummmm!!! 🤤🤤🤤

They definitely work and saves me soo much time! they are not as pigmented as airbrushed colours but they work perfectly and i dont think the kids will mind at all 😉😜😁

Hi sweetie, thank you so much for your kind words 😊 yes i make my own royal icing and i usually let the colours develop over a couple of days to get it darker. However its easier to start with an already dark icing. Putting some black cocoa powder into your icing really helps make black icing too. I haven't had a chance to make a video tutorial on it but one day i will, finding the time to make the tutorials is the hardest part for me 😉👍

Love your video! How many seconds for thinner flooding? How long it take to dry? What if you use a little bit thicker flooding, would it take longer to dry?

Amazing work 😍😍😍...How long does icing cookies last to be stored and remain valid to eating please!
Sugar Cookies should last a few weeks, depending on how you store them. I usually heat-sealed my cookies individually in a cellophane bag, which keeps the cookies fresh for longer. If you don't have a heat-sealer then I would highly recommend storing them in an airtight container with parchment paper in between layers.
Hi!! When you leave your cookies to dry without the dehydrator, do you leave them out in a room temperature area or a container?
I left mine in room temp from about 8pm to 8am they are good to go! So overnight

Hi, may I know which black food colouring u use? I tried using gel food colorimetric. But to reach this black I need to use a lot of gel. Which at the end makes my icing thinner. Hence when I scrape on stencil, it smudge

hi Dani, if your cookie size is not too big i found it its easier to use one consistency so you dont have to worry about outlining perfectly 😉
@@CookieliciousNZ I tried using one consistency but then when I flood it falls down the sides of the cookie. But I'm not giving up trying again tomorrow. ❤
@@ohdani8508 if your icing falls down the sides then its too thin, you need to thicken it up a bit like liquid honey consistency, if you are timing your timing maybe aim for 15-20 seconds consistency for a medium consistency like mine 😉👍 good luck hun, im really proud of you for not giving up! 🤗💖

Same thing here. But I looked at the size of my cookie cutter on the website I ordered it and compared to the stencils you want to stay in the same size or a little smaller than your cookie size. If you aren sure take the size before ordering stencil and compare it. To what you are ordering if you still aren't sure draw the lines on a piece of paper of measurements of the cutter and then the stencil it should give you an idea if it will fit(:

What paint can i use??
I use M&Ms as I mentioned in my video for the little paint at the bottom, but if you would rather use icing you can make your own icing pallete and then airbrush them to the colours of your liking.
