Nobuyuki Tsujii in Iceland 2018: "Do you have a girl friend?"

- On his first visit to Iceland in April 2018, Nobu was introduced to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra by Maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy at a rehearsal of Chopin's Piano Concerto no 2. After the rehearsal, Nobu meets up with some orchestra members for some socializing at the KEX Hostel, where they drink beer and Nobu was subjected to some friendly nterrogation ^_^

オーケストラの仲間から「Do you have a girlfrend ? 」と痛いところを突っ込まれた、辻井君です。
でも素直に「no girlfriend !」と見栄張らず素直に返事する、辻井君です。
すると、すかさず、となりの好意的な彼女が「How come ? 、(どうして ？ )」と異国人(日本人)に話しかける、アイスランドの人々が、すごく素敵に感じました。
欧米の人って、わりとリップサービスするけど、これは心から言ってるよね。

I am sure not only japanese girls, but any young lady from the symphonic world would be interested in such an outstanding young man.
^_^ This is a sensitive subject especially for the visually impaired, I have been told. I also heard that it is even more difficult in Nobu's case, because he has gotten "too famous." I do hope he will find a soul mate.
@@mlliu2006 It's hard for anyone at this level of professional involvement to have a "better half", and most of these artists channel most of their energy into their art from a very early age, and there's not much left for a potential life partner. Furthermore I'm not sure it was the most tactful way to ask....

Agreed. Nobu is a great ambassador for his country, Japan, but also for classical music. Incidentally, he will be performing in Cologne this month (May 26 2019).

本当に素晴らしい。でもいつも気になるのがアシュケナージ先生、演奏が終わった後、指揮棒を口にくわえているのがとてもビクビクです。ちょっとした反動で共演者を傷つけないかと。。。。特に辻井さん目がご不自由ですし、アシュケナージさん自身自分の指を刺して演奏できなくなったこともあるし。でも何であんなに先が尖がった指揮棒使うんですかね 笑

もう何十年も前の話だが、
当時、世界中で流行ってた洋楽ポップスの代表がビートルズやローリングストーンズで、
僕も嵌ってたが、
ある映画劇場番組で聴いたピアノ協奏曲が好きなになり（ラフマニノフ2番）クラシックにも、、
そしてクラシック専門のレコード屋に行き、推薦のピアニストをご店主に聞くと、
今売り出し中のロシア人若手天才ピアニストが居ると、推薦されたのがアシュケーナージでした、、
また知り合いのベートベンとリスト曲の大ファンである外科医の先生からもアシュケーナージは凄いと勧められ、
今でも持ってる好きなピアノの曲のレコード、ＣＤの殆どがアシュケーナージ演奏となってるが、
そんな尊敬するアシュケーナージから大絶賛されてるのだから、辻井伸行さんが二流、三流のピアニストであるはずがない！！
自分自身も辻井伸行さんのピアノを聴いて、間違い無く本物だと思う、、
Your comment makes me angry. I have the greatest respect for Ashkenazy but every pianist is different. If you want to dwell in the past, be my guest, but Nobuyuki Tsujii is here and now, and he is decidedly NOT 二流、三流のピアニス. Please, get on with it.

'Do you have a girlfriend ?' A perfectly normal question for a perfectly normal, healthy young man. I don't find it any funny. : )
This is a very personal question for a Japanese, I believe, and especially so for someone sightless. Interestingly, Peter Rosen, who made the 2009 Cliburn Competition documentary, asked him the same question, and like here, Nobu's response is very measured. Yes, I know this is a question that's usually taken as a very personal one not just here in Japan but maybe anywhere else in the world.
But...I just thought it would probably be more rude to not ask this type of question JUST because he is a person who happens to be unable to see.
But...the page linked above clearly tells us Nobu does not seem to be very happy being asked about whether he has a girlfriend. So, I guess anyone who knows about this should stop asking this question, then.
@@GirlFromNippon Nobu is too polite not to answer questions, especially coming from a foreigner. But I do think he prefers not to be asked such a question. For a blind person, I have been told by one, romance is an especially sensitive subject.
Oh...yes, I believe it is. Besides, questions about romance themselves could possibly be a little touchy subject so to speak.
As for his being a bit tongue-tied when spoken by a foreigner...as you have mentioned before, he might be a bit afraid of making mistakes when he speaks English.
But I am 100 per cent sure that he would really LIKE to learn to speak English as he did say as a kid that he would like to be able to speak good English and communicate with lots of people from all around the world doing his world tours in the future. :) ↓

@@GirlFromNippon Yes, I am well aware of that video and that statement of young Nobu saying he wants to learn to speak English to be able communicate with people all over the world. But the truth is he is not doing that, even now. His interviews overseas are by emails or through interpreters, and although he occasionally talks a little on foreign stages, it is frankly not easy to understand him. I have no doubt that Nobu can speak English well if he puts his mind to it, but perhaps he has been too preoccupied for that. It is too bad, because I really think that not being able to speak to the media has made him somewhat of an enigma to Westerners. Then again, perhaps that's not such a bad thing these days. He is doing well enough. It takes effort for those of us who do not speak Japanese to understand him, but it can be done.

彼女がいるのかと聞いた男性に、そして、どうして？と続いた女性の感じに、ネガティブな違和感を覚えるのは、俺が悪いのだろうか・・・。
How come?はどうして？だけではなく。どうして？そんなわけないでしょ？？と言う感じですよ。訳がおかしいのです。
この女性は、バイオリニストのVera Panitchさんですね。2:39 からインタビューに答えていて「ファンになりました」と言ってます。ネガティブさはないと思いますよ。
「How come?」は、「辻井さんはこんなに素敵な人なのに、どうして彼女がいないのかしら」という意味だと思いますよ。リスペクトの気持ちを含んでいる、とてもポジティブな言葉だと思います。
私の数少ない経験からだと、「彼女いないの？どうして？」と聞かれたらチャンスです。ネガティブに感じるということは、修行が足りないということじゃないでしょうか。
実際、この続きのビデオにある「サマータイム」後半の彼女の辻井さんを見つめる目はもうハートのようです。あぁ、あんな目で見つめられたい。
