      chowcares hmm... maybe a brake bleed video? Lemme think on some common things I’ve come across... Diff and transfer case breather extensions? Rear axle seals if yours are leaking? Valve cover gaskets if you need them? 3rd brake light reseal if yours is letting water in?

    • @chowcares
      @chowcares  Před 4 lety +1

      John Haley ahhh yup! I’ve done some of these but unfortunately didn’t get any footage. Valve cover gasket, breather extensions, and bleeding the brakes. Let me see if I can do a how to vid without actually doing them.

    This is extremely helpful. This is my first 4wd and changing the front rotor is more complicated than your typical vehicle.

    I put one of my brake pads inside out (stupid me) and it scratched the rotors so bad. I just changed the wheel bearing too so watching how to change the rotors is easy based on your videos. I hope my rotors didn't get stuck like yours!

    Nice video as always! The cone washers on mine have been giving me a lot of trouble. Gonna try to reattempt soon. Gives me a feeling that my rotors are probably stuck with the hub pretty bad. Mine's not from California originally. Thanks for the great info!

      Thank you! Yea they’re a real pain in the a**. If the brass punch doesn’t work, try a steel one. Make sure you have the nit on there before you hammer. It will help center the punch and help the stud from being stretched

    Awesome channel & videos. Please continue the DIY videos on the Land Cruiser for sure. I’m thinking of making the Land Cruiser my next daily driver & these definitely provide simple step by step processes. Any specific recommendations on what to look for on LC purchasing in your opinion? Thanks

      Thanks! Depends on what you plan to do with it. I wanted it mainly for the trails so I picked up one with a locker. If you want to drive around town maybe a later model with a 5th gear and more hp?

    When I got my Land Cruiser in 2002 I drove something Like 48000 the first year. It was already out of warranty! I go into the Toy dealership on a Saturday morning for a $25 oil change. The guy taking the car in says "we got a brake special for $99 today, you want to do that?" I said, yeah, go for it, even though it didn't need them.
    Go to pick it up and it's like $800 bucks at the cashier! I'm like WTH! They said, we replaced Rotors, pads, bearing. The whole nine yards. So they kinda bowed up like I owed them $800 or so. We had a discussion and I walked out after some time, some arguing and writing a check for $125.
    I have just recently done the bearings, calipers, fluid everything, front and back and it's a job. Seems a lot harder that I remember doing the Job on My Datsun 240Z or Porsche 930!

    would this be the same one a 1996 Toyota landcruiser (not lexus)? the backwards approach getting the rotor off? having to deal with the flange and ridiculous axle nut stuff?

    • @chowcares

    Chow: Hunny, so while filming that video something happened to the lens on the camera and I gotta buy a new one now...
    ***Few days later***
    Chow's Wife: Hey Chow... I had to sign for some big box today from Canon? Why does it have a special felt bag that says "Welcome to the Red Ring club" stamped on it??"
    Chow: Oh no reason hun!!! **giggles like a school girl**

      Another good video and AWESOME tip on bearing removal. I am looking at doing the same in the near future (have to fix some of the issues the POs shop created) and debating on redoing the bearing (pretty sure I am going to). Got to get the hub flanges off and see what the splines look like on my axles as my hub flanges have lots of play in them.

    • @chowcares
      @chowcares  Před 4 lety +1

      Yea those tend to wear out on our trucks since they’re usually the original ones that came with the car. If you’ve gone that far, you might as well change them out.

    • @mizznfizz1
      @mizznfizz1 Před 4 lety +1

      @@chowcares Exactly... I hadn't planned on going that far but when I was able to pull both my dust caps off by hand and then found that there were ground down c-clips there instead of the proper snap rings (let alone proper width) I knew the backlash/preload on the axle nuts was probably not right either. So I have to go THAT deep already, might as well throw some bearings in there too. NOTE: Don't use 4WP for ANYTHING.
