- Rico from @TheWeldLab shows us how he does some mirror welding! We setup a boiler simulation for Rico so he can help us learn how to mirror weld. Sometimes you cant see the back of those tubes and you just need to pull out the mirror!

This guy is great, speaks well, easy to listen to and above all he is HUMBLE!!!!
Easy to watch him can tell he works allt
Worked in a power plant that was supercritical 4000 psi the boiler welders were master of their trade.
If you use 2 mirrors or an even amount of them it will flip it right side up again so its like actually looking at it straight on
Yeah, using a set of old 4x5 gold lens, the plastic ones wont break because of the heat..

Yo wtf totally didn’t even consider this!
Best content ever Bro, first time seeing a mirror weld done on CZcams EVER, great job , need more guys like him on here 👍🏾
Rico is a excellent welder bring him back the tip with the mirror show me a new way a better way.
Bless Another AWESOME 👏 video. Rico is complete in his explanation of the mirror process. Continued success, Bro. Thanks 🙏
Bring this guy back. I like the way he teaches
Boilermakers best welders hands down🛠️⚒️🛠️⚒️🛠️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️great job
True words spoken tight welds and bad fit-up keep good welders employed. I had to do some mirror welding on 6" natural gas line (6010 root/7018 cap) that was up against an I-beam and the roof of a building. My wife was not happy when I brought her mirror back home with spatter. 😂
💯 correct Tight fits and Bad fits keep Good Welders employed
I’m impressed with this young man!
Rico putting in down on that tube 🔥👍
Great video. That you for sharing your knowledge. You guys are great folk. Mike
Beautiful work
Great video!!
Very good tecnics Rico 👏💪🥳
You a beast with it carnal!
Great video
Talent.
I experieced doin this its hard man its hard...I can say you are a GREAT WELDER indeed. ♥️
Hell yeah my boy @weldtube
Yes sir good technick your no.1 thanks
Good job 👍👌
Niceee i love this
Good job
tnx for video✋
great video!! can you show us how you made your magnetic mirror
Great welder
Thanks
As far as a bad fit, I would say, if I can step across it, I can weld it. But in tight places it’s great to have a good fit.
Make it as comfortable as possible. It is a speciality to be able to mirror weld, especially in corners of the boiler when you’re two-blocked against the water wall tubes replacing primaries or secondary superheat’s close to headers.
Everyday work for a danish district heating welder . I just use 311 gaswelding setup in the ditch. 👌🤠
RICOOO!! nice to see you on this channel showing your skills. hopefully your channel grows
Pretty nice, but that's a TON of room between tubes. I've welded tubes where you don't have more than 2" between them. This is a good starting point for mirror welding though.
Check out a video of a tighter area actually welding in the boiler titled Boilermakers Loc-101 welding in between tube panels
Хорошая работа сварщик👍👍👍
I am waiting for your next episode
Good job, did lots of it and just watching the vid my back hurts haha. Homie forgot the best tool for this job and its 90 degrees air grinder
Dude, always heard about mirror welding in boilers, also was told becuz of the tite proximity of the tubes, a helper was used to feed the rod in for the welder, is that true>
I had to do crazy welding in unusual positions, mostly stick. Great tutorial for a student wanting to weld boiler tubes. excelente vid, gracias>
When rooting the sides of waterfall tubes, your partner ALWAYS feeds you and looks you in.
@@Peter.Lecomtefor sure. If you don’t push your buddy wire on tangent tubes, the weld can run on you, and you damn sure don’t want lack of fusion on the sides!
Do you use automatic Len on this weld
Mad skills. Mirror takes a lot of muscle memory. You don’t think so try cutting the back of your hair. Be looking gooood.
No LOVE for wearing a sock when it's hot out??? Good vid!
Good
Nice vid :) I like to use two mirrors, one to see what I'm welding and another pointed to the first to flip my view back so it's not inverted... Haha just a little cheat to make life easier
Just curious....If there is a proportional in term of salary between normal condition of welding with these method, how much its figure suppose to be in real industrial practice?
That’s the boy Rico good job bro
wow why use a # 26 torch that is really making harder to get in hard places ?
What tungsten color you used?
My dudes shout out to that old hp night crew
yo!
Its Hard to get into HP, looks like they know how to keep their welders happy, hardly any job posts from that company
Çok süper
Nice vatto
Great job, I'm also a mirror welder... how much money do you make if you weld with a mirror?
What kind of lens 2x4 you guys recommend for tig ?
Gold coated. Best by far
What shipyard?
Damn bro that shit takes some skill Makes me look like a chump
Nice bud. I’ve done some tighter spots where just the torch fits. Cut your way in. Weld your way out. We use modified horseshoe magnets. Bevel only not to feathered outer edge
Lol yea shits real when u start cutting windows in pipe.
Alright guys I have a stick welder.....but when i try to weld i think the sticks are e6018 ...I WILL CORRECT 2 morrow ...no matter how thin & thick the mettle is I can't get a bubble what am i doing wrong
Probably a DC type welder which isn’t the best at running a 6010 rod
I have no idea what either of you are talking about. I've never welded 6010 on AC. DC is the right current. You can open root 6010 on DCEN but you cant certify that in the states. Bubble?
First🙌🏻🇺🇸
RICO. BUEN VIDEO. HABER SI HACES ALGUNO HABLANDO ESPAÑOL .
Wouldnt something like this be perfect for an orbital welder?
Little late here but he is welding on brand new tubes,in a coal fired boiler the tubes are covered in a slag from burning the coal and it is very dirty,I was on a job where they tried using a orbital welder once and when running the orbital the vibration knocks the fly ash off of the tube and jams up the orbital welder retired Union Boilermaker
@@mattharper588 boilermaker local 105 ✌
We were on a job with a couple hundred 5g stainless tubes on a vertical header. QC was don Harris out of 154 and the plant hired a sub of non-union orbital guys. QC made them take the tig.test for a make or break. They all failed and he sent them packing. Good work for a few weeks...
😍
🤙🤙🤙
next, camera borescope welding
I'm a complete newbie but can you do a video on how to make that simulator.
Its usually 12 inch centers on most piping some might have 18 inch centers but thats rare
Oh i forgot stagger your rows
@@justinbrown9850 I think I understand, then cut out the pipe that you're going to weld back in?
@@MrPONCHO467 yes
Ai é minha area caldeiras serpentinas lugares trancados soldas no espelho
Por favor, ponha legenda neste video. 😁
I la mano izquierda?
That wall
Thickness is that . I
Thought boiler tube was heavy
Amigo puede hacer el video es español gracias
You don't need to begin welding with a mirror, start with a mirror at home and get used to the nuances of it. Hold it up and play it, eventually you will harness a different dimension that most humans can't see, then the welding or any trade will be ez>, with or without it.
For the record. These are not pipes. These are tubes. These are measured by i.d. and the process is different
pin hole @ 8:19?
Fish eye @ 8:19?
Slick back feed.
I've seen welders lay down FEET of bead thru a mirror. Those are some BAD MOFOs!
2strangabanga
depend in super
8:19 he didn’t tie in there was a hole 🕳 camera did a good job in catching it 🤣😂🤣😂 and hiding it great job mad skill tho
Good eye
Probably a pin hole in one of his stops. All well and good using scratch start gear, but about time these guys caught up with times with lift arc or hf start. At least then can use a couple of seconds downslope to shrink puddle down a bit before stopping lessening chances of pinholes
@@kf8575 you must be a shop hand
Parede de caldeira
Lol sometimes u get back in front of ur face and ur hands go opposite direction hahaha definitely is not something everyone can do. Don’t get in a hurry and don’t get her to hot 👍
The burner is large, it would not weld anything in the boiler.
not in canada
Anyone near Fort Worth that has advice on schools should just the course at a community college or spend the extra cash for a more known school like Tulsa
I’m need to start ASAP
@@LCRIPY321 I graduate from Tulsa in 3 weeks, if you wanna weld pipe and are extremely self motivated you can’t beat tulsa I spent 10 plus hours a day in the shop and I’m only required half of that for attendance, structural crap go to a community college
Great video and all, but your mock up is nothing like a real boiler.
1st, anywhere you need a mirror, that big rig and big cup won’t fit.
2nd, those tubes are too far apart in comparison to the real world. Put them anywhere from about 1/4”-4” away from each other and that’s more like a boiler that has ran and has had numerous heat cycles.
3rd, they’re tubes not pipes when inside the boiler. And yes, I get that your mock-up uses sch. 40 pipe.
4th, if you really want to put on a demonstration, find a coal fire plant during a shutdown and go weld in the back pass or economizer, 5 tubes down while laying on your stomach and fly ash raining down. Then we’ll see some mirror welding.
When you say they're tubes not pipes what thickness are the tubes?
@@Baaaaayez Tubes can have numerous different wall thicknesses depending on the type of boiler itself (critical, super critical, HRSG etc) and what part/place of the boiler you’re working in. But tubes are what make up the boiler not pipe. Also tubes are measured by the OD and MWT.
Back in the day huh 🤔,what are you like 22 years old if that
Funny shit
Me an my bro Abraham are both 30 but we look young for our age. Some people would say we pass for a 22 year old lol
@@isaacquintanilla1726 same with me ,I’m 41 but look 28 🤷🏻♂️✌️😎
My friend, those are "tubes" not pipes. Now take that test rig and rotate it 90-degrees. Oh! Put it 18" from the ground.
85amps 😂
?
Why don't you use the HF Machine? At every stop you made a small hole..and there you are guaranteed a mistake in the welded root.
