Surprised this doesn't have more likes. Clever video that saves more headache than you know and covers a lot. I would like to see individual linked videos where you do each step in detail where your arm isn't hiding what you're doing. Great for intermediate video, tho. Beginners probably run for the hills tho.

Great video! Well explained for each step of this rig making! Only one thing can be done differently: the length of the leader from the swivel to the first dropper loop can be made as short as possible, just a bit longer than the loop plus the length of the hook to avoid tangle with the swivel. This will not only save you leader line, but will also make it easy to land the fish.
I have been using similar rig for bottom fishing for quite a few years in open water. I also us the same for ice fishing of hakes. The shorter rig will work better with the generally shorter ice fishing rod.

Great video. Going to make some of these rigs today. Question though... your images look like the barrel swivels are attached to the hooks with a split ring but you don’t mention that or list them in the supply list. What size split ring are you using? Thanks in advance.

Hello thanks for watching. These Owner hooks have an open eye design. My preference is to open up the eye and attach the swivel directly which may require the use of heat to open and close eye. Other style hooks will have closed eyes and you will need to use a split ring to attach the swivel. Not my preferred method as I like to limit the hardware but does the job. I wouldn't go any larger then a 100lb split right an owner #7 (80lb test) will do the trick. Can get them here cutt.ly/UriUrIJ

Good vid. Just wondering what rod and reel you use for haddock. I dont like using my cod "meat stick", it's too heavy. Thanks

Thanks for watching. You don't need to go heavy with the modern rods and reels. I listed my setup below but i have gone really light on favorable days with light spinning gears as long as you can keep the bait on the bottom with light weight.
      Shimano Torium 30 HG bit.ly/2GVnbav
      Shimano Terez 70M bit.ly/2v8Qyn4
Any 7' medium to heavy will work.

Great idea with the surgical tubing. I’m new to saltwater fishing. Been out a few times for haddock and striper. Caught my limit every trip of haddock. I just bought my own rods. Instead of using the surgical tubing- I’m gonna try using straws. I’m gonna use the orange with red striped ones from Dunk’n donuts, and 1 regular white/red striped one. My grandfather used to make lures out of straws from McDonald’s, and swore by them. I’m going out next Sunday. Can’t wait to try it.

Currents Fishing will do! Now that cod is legal to harvest one- I’m hoping to get one of those suckers too!

Going to make some of these tonight and use them on Saturday and see if it makes a difference

Good luck. The online swivel really help the catch ratio. Loose less fish on the way up as they can’t pop hook off.

What is the size of the dropper loop you tied? I'm guessing it should be the same length as the piece of surgical tubing you will feed it through.

What lbs test are you using on your main line?

    • @CurrentsFishingNetwork
      @CurrentsFishingNetwork  Před 4 lety

I typically use 60-80# depending on the bottom I’m targeting. Using 60 in the video.

Once again what would have been a fine demo suffers from 30% of the rig tying off camera ( not centered) and annoying repetitive music which adds nothing. Why do so many you tubers think music helps? It does not . Nice rig ideas if you can get past all that. Oh, and btw the rig is 4 1/2’ (FEET) not “ inches.

You describe how to tie the dropper loop, but your hands are out of the picture. WTF??????????
