Sadly, reporting to HR isn't a magic pill. They work for the company, not you. It's important to document everything with dates, times, and an objective narrative.
And to start doing research on a good Employment lawyer
Edit: also invest in some subtle and covert recording equipment to get proof, so you can remove any benefit of the doubt from the person targeting you. People may have problems with cameras and being recorded, but it’s an objective witness and helpful tool, part of what makes First Amendment Audit/ Copwatcher videos so interesting
100%. HR's purpose is to protect the company, not the employees. If it's deemed that it's financially advantageous for the company to terminate the victim rather than the victimizer, and HR/legal have determined that they can get away with it legally and optically, they'll do so 10 times out of 10.
I had roughly 20k pole rolling under me (I was in HR)
The question I was asked most frequently was some variation of “how can I legally fire this person”
Very few “I need help helping my employee”
I was not very popular with leadership because I made best pals with union leadership. I’d love to say it was because of a good heart or something, it was just bc training new people is super pricey.
@@yuyutubee8435 That’s 💯. I’ve worked very closely with HR “leaders” and have had good friends who were senior employee relations “business partners” and they’ve all quit. Because they can’t protect the employees. There jobs are really risk management and the HR VP is usually good friends with the perpetrators. I will say there’s a huge lack of confidentiality in those offices as well. Per always, it all comes from the top. If you have CROs and executives with integrity, you have a greater chance of HR having it as well. I’ve honestly never seen it

Even as a guy I remember when I first stared working as a medical receptionist when I was 20, the workforce was predominantly older women and there were many comments and things said/ done to me that made me very uncomfortable. Like someone else said HR work for the company first and you risk making enemies so you ignore or laugh it off, and it can be hard to find your voice especially when you’re young or just starting out but it’s not ok.
Same here. When I talked to a guy in the head office about filing for sexual harassment, he told me I would be laughed at, so I ended up just leaving........
If you watch the series Mad Men that's a pretty good representation of how poorly women were treated. I'm 67 so I was working in the '80s. You could report it but you wouldn't be working there long. I was cute with a nice figure in a higher level job and men were always hitting on me. It was never a compliment I hated it. I started physically threatening them, like this one guy started rubbing my leg , I looked at him and said knock it off or you're going to be going home explaining to your wife where you got a black eye....
I don't know if they thought I was crazy or going to freak out on them as long as they keep their hands to their self and do their job.
During the me too movement, I had a chuckle over certain men thinking they were probably crapping in their pants waiting for some woman or women to come forward and turn them in....
It happened to me in 2012 in a progressive university in probably the most progressive city and I would wear frumpy cardigans all the time for that very reason. To this day it’s very very treacherous to report anything to HR because at the very least they look at you like you’re a problem employee or at the worst they’ll try to get you to quit because you know too much and are a threat. HR is mostly risk management at this point unless you’re really lucky to have a CEO with great integrity who also hired a strong HR VP with integrity. And that’s really everywhere still from what I’ve seen and heard from colleagues and friends who work at high levels in government, “non-profits” corporations, etc.
@@tanja0411 When my daughter was in college in the early 2000s, I got her pepper spray and a boot knife because there were a lot of rapes. Made sure she knew how to use it. We lived on a horse farm so she had some familiarity.

I have a female relative that was getting harassed by a certain guy at her place of employment. He really crossed the line one day and she turned around a punched his lights out. Of course, HR got involved and the guy wanted her fired. She presented HR with all of her documentation and to the guys dismay he was the one fired. Apparently said guy went to a couple of lawyers as he wanted to sue her and the company. Lawyers told him he didn't have a prayer.

You don't have to go that far back. I'm 63 and entered the workforce as an adult after graduating high school in 1978, long before boorish and disgusting behavior at the hands of men was giving the name "sexual harassment" and yes as Joy said -- the behavior was just dismissed as "boys being boys."
When I was about 21 and worked at a driving course, my boss tried to get me to go to his house by asking me if I could fix his computer, luckily one of the students was an older lady and she overheard and offered her husband’s services. I’ll always be grateful to her!
I made sure my daughter saw this. Along w the good, she is also aware of the bad that happened to me in my career. I pray she won't experience the same.

That may be true but I can tell you from experience that once many women got into those positions of power they were just as complicit and actually more toxic than the men. Because they’re usually smarter and more hard-working. I’ve seen and experienced some of the most terrible female executives and directors :(

Discrimination, harassment, prejudice, etc., have no boundaries. Anyone can experience that. What's different is how people would experience that. The magnitude, the severity, the remedies, etc. "We" LOVE Joy!!! "We" LOVE everyone at the View. It is absolutely still happening today. I’ve been very close to HR professionals and they literally almost have to be yes people to executives. You need a very brave HR VP who allows their employees to actually help anyone who has a legitimate complaint against their boss. It’s still very treacherous to report anything to HR because many of them are friends with “leaders.” And even when it’s clear that you have 💯 validity there is still always a mark in that person as being a troublemaker or weak. I would love the View women to interview HR leaders to get their take.
Sexual harassment wasn't only in the workplace it was everywhere. You could not stand at a bus stop to wait for the bus without guys whistling at you and saying all kinds of things. I used to hate waiting for the bus, thank God those days are over and I lived to see a change.

Oh Lord, 🤦🏻♀️ you guys do you know the law… Sunny is not a narcissist. She’s a strong woman who was a former prosecutor. It’s a tough love injustice thing which a lot of people can’t handle. Ex. Fani Willis, Alvin Bragg, Jack Smith, Letitia James etc. I used to worked in gov’t law, discrimination etc. That’s normal lawyer/judge/prosecutor behavior.

I worked for a bank in the 70's and I was 22 years old. We did have an EEOC officer working in the Human Resources Dept. He was extremely good looking and he would openly flirt and make passes at me and other young women. Apparently it was not taken that seriously in the 70's. He would be the one we would have to complain to...
Notice that there is never a word of where women look at a man and how they behave towards a man when they are in the superior position.

I was a single mother, trying to keep a roof over us. sadly, I was attractive, I gained 100 pounds to protect from men. I always wore a ring, even between marriage for shelter and food.
As a man I’ve been on the receiving end of sexual harassment from men in the workplace. I attempted to report one instance and was shamed.

In 2006 I went to pickup a Uhaul truck, and one of the employees asked me if I was some kind of tomboy since my boyfriend or brother didnt come along.
Some men are just that inept that cannot accept seeing a woman do things on her own. I didnt want to make a scene so I ignored it, but I've never used their business ever again.

I think Sara said it was not? the norm. Sad to say it WAS the norm. I graduated college 1975 and worked in hospital labs. Women were sexually violated or mistreated on a regular basis. Women- wives were NEVER RAPED, because there was no law about it. It was not possible for a man to rape his wife, because there was no law against it. 1970s - 80s, women could not buy a car, house, get a credit card or even credit rating for a loan. What money a woman earned on her job, belonged to her husband! Which made her husband her pimp.
