  • Watch selections from silent films created by Reverend S. S. Jones, who came to Oklahoma Territory in 1889. Scenes of traditionally All-Black towns of Oklahoma include Taft, Clearview, Melvin, and Boley in the 1920s.
    This film was produced by Bruce Fisher and the Oklahoma Historical Society.

    This man was so proud of his community he made a documentary about them bc he knew that one day we would need this reminder. Thank you Reverend S.S. Jones!

    As my Fathers Family was from Boley, this was precious to see. I have only been back once but it should be remembered and celebrated!

    I’m from Taft Oklahoma and to see this is so awesome! My town has so much history that a lot of people my age don’t know thanks for sharing this💯

    i'm a Langston University Man! it was great to see LU in the film. that football field looked like the one my Lions played on in the mid 80's lol, hadnt changed ...much...lol

    How incredibly awesome it was that this video was recorded. A good mount of footage t that. More importantly, was how these recordings survived all this time. Absolutely phenomenal scene to witness of all times, the current moments. I’m so proud to see films like this. Those football players barely had on padding. Since I’m just learning about this town, I’m searching to find out what happened to it. I’m afraid to know if white people (KKK) demolished this town as they did the other successful Black towns. Wow, just wow!

      Boost Mobile No, black woman have always supported and build up the black man Image. The BM was the ones who left the black community after civil right movement to marry Becky.

    Did yall notice the people in the video was wearing face mask? The film start showing the black church, then at the football game scene. What was going on in 1925??

      @@sherrycambridge1531 I don't think it has to do with where you come from whether you like this music or not. I am from Tennessee, and I LOVED this music, especially the song that was played when talking about the churches in these towns. The singing was "angelic".😁👍👌
