Many years ago the was a spoof alien invasion program on Xmas day. My mum walked in looked at the TV where two reporters stood by the Thames where a huge spaceship hovered. She asked is this real, I replied yes. She looked thoughtful for about 30 seconds then said, I haven't got time for this I need help in the kitchen.

We do this kind of thing pretty well. There was a BBC audio version of Independence Day that was what was happening in the Uk while Geoff Goldblum and Will Smith were saving the world. The first half of it is very like Orson Wells' War of the Worlds done as spoof radio broadcasts. I particularly remember the outside broadcast team on the roof of the building being cut off abruptly as they are destroyed followed by a return to the studio. Not a comedy - though it does have its amusing moments (listen out for the commentary from the helicopter that usually does the traffic reports) but a nice little side dish to go with the main course of the original movie. The Mitchell and Webb sketch is brilliant for how well it convinces me that this is exactly how the media would react. And hilarious, of course.

About 25 years ago in Drama class, me and a guy did almost the same routine. We were news anchors just casually reporting on an invasion. The 3rd member of our team was a weather girl and she was showing where the aliens had taken over and pointing out on the map.
I'm in no way saying that this is a stolen idea. I'm just saying that me and friends did it while at school.

something that is hard to find in good quality but was absolute rock solid gold was a series by an political satirist/mpressionist, Rory Bremner. Three in particular.
Between Iraq and a hard place.
Beyond Iraq and a hard place.
Beneath Iraq and a hard place.
basically before, during and after the invasion/war.
this one is less of a reaction request because the videos that are on youtube arent the best quality. plus this isnt only for you but for anyone reading who has never watched or heard of the series.
He had a tv show with two other guys, John Bird and John Fortune (who has since passed away), Bremner, Bird and Fortune.
honestly it's a treasure trove, but it takes the mick out of politicians both british and american, from the 00s era. The british labour government of that time especially, so maybe you wouldnt get some of the references in there esp when they concern things taking place in the britain back then. Still, the american stuff taking the mick out of the neo-cons was actually pretty dark.
He had them all sussed out and for me, it was total education.
there was a 4 parter in the Bremner bird and fortune series called Silly Money, breaking down western capitalism, again it's pretty dark when you dwell on it, but this was comedy/political satire at its best. Certainly not a waste of time and still very relevant. It's all on youtube btw.
