  • Welcome to Finland!
    It's time for a test of the Scania Eagle. The coach is almost 20 years old, and is in daily operation in Espoo, outside of the capital Helsinki. Finland is a country with long bus and coach building traditions. They even take care of their products. It's common to operate the buses for more than 20 years. Join us for a test drive with a coach with a long experience on the road.

    The rear toilet solution is an ingenious way Scania solved one of the more infuriating moments you can have as a driver. That being the luggage compartment hatches being smaller on the side of the bus people can get off. We often find ourselves on traffic packed roads, where unloading luggage from the driver’s side is simply dangerous. Creating more hatches on the side where people get off is therefore more logical and safe. So bravo to Scania for having this solution for almost two decades, which I was unaware of. And fortunately they still offer this option to this day on the Scania Touring HD.
    Cheers Bussmagasinet

      This is so true! Both me and Tom are both bus drivers. We are often in dangerous situations where people need to stand in traffic to load and unload their bags 🥲

      The rear toilet also solves the freezing waste tank problem, with the tank being right beside the engine. Only Finnish problems.

    Great video! You should also test drive Kabus while you still can, they are a bit of an oddity of Finnish bus history. It was a bus factory for Finland's biggest bus operator Koiviston auto, they made both coaches and city buses and both are... unique to say the least. Many people dislike them, some maybe like them, but it would be a great story for you to tell. But they are quite old at this point and will probably be phased out in the near future.

    Its great to see you love finnish buses!!! If you happen to drop by Oulu again in the near future I would love to see a video just like this on the classic old Finnish made Kabus buses and why in oulu? That's pretty much the only city where the citybus models TC40's are still found. Of course just as old Kabus coaches can be spotted on Onnibus fleet too. And you should tell about it's history! I believe the biggest bus company here, Koiviston auto made them just for own use... pretty strange huh? 😃

    Hahaha, I was just about to say when I started looking at this video that it looks like a Scania SCALA, but the Tourist version, and then you walked to the back of the bus and it looks just like a SCALA - tho I like the design of this one more than the SCALA, and I agree about the Bagage compartments, great space and very clever designed.
    I was as excited as you are when I drove a Volvo 9900 first time 2007 when I just taken my driving licence and Volvo came to my work for a display and testdrive, still like the design the most of a 9900 from 2007 over the new odd recent design of Volvo's Coaches.

    For Singapore's private buses - the lifespan is 20 years old and either it gets exported, or more commonly, scrap.

    • @bussmagasinet1

    • @chuayx7572
      @chuayx7572 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@bussmagasinet1 Yeah though if it's not economical to use they would have to scrap it as a new vehicle would be more sensible investment of funds and profits. Dependent on vehicle condition - as well as the COE (certificate of entitlement). Some of them may not renew also and have the bus early scrap or sold to someone else.

      In UK we do have buses with the Allison transmission.

    • @bandimint
      @bandimint Před 5 měsíci +3

      In Finland, Allison has a bad reputation of being fuel-inefficient. Back in the 80s they were very common on city buses (if they weren’t manual, mind you!) but were quickly superseded by ZF Ecomats and to a lesser extent, Voith Diwas. The only Allison-equipped buses in Finland right now are probably the Kabus TC-series, and some of them are even equipped with ZF AS Tronic.

    • @crabbymilton390
      @crabbymilton390 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@bandimint Most of the drivers I have talked to over the years hated those ASTRONIC trannys. I rode in many of them and they are jerky and slow in stop and go traffic. Over here in America the ALLISON is very loved. Smooth and quick acceleration. I don’t drive buses but as long as I don’t have to clutch and shift myself, any automatic will do. Those automated manuals are too rough for buses but maybe ok for trucks.
