The fact that this is on a whistle that literally was not built with some of those notes you hear him play in mind, is just unreal. He’s HALF COVERING some of those tone holes to get the right notes that were never intended to be played on there. Just amazing.
I think what i like best about this is, it's an utterly mind blowing one of a kind virtuoso performance - by some ordinary looking bloke in his kitchen.
Hello Eddie, thanks a lot for your message, I sarted a CZcams Chanel if you want to have a look : czcams.com/video/sVVLrolMP7I/video.html
@@antoinepihier35 what kind of whistle is this,,love your playing,,love the sound of this whistle,,where may i find one
@@jamesgilamonster I James and thanks for your message, this whistle is from Jon Swayne. He makes whistle in boxwood.
@@antoinepihier35 thanks for this amazing piece played with such passion.. Just Amazing - I have only heard this played on the pipe organ. The versatility of the whistle I haven’t seen - will be sure to check out your site 🎶
He's absolutely professional
I love the integration of "Irish style" ornamentation into the piece, it works so well! And Baroque music was played ornamented after all! Incredible performance, I just love it.
Brings a tear to my eye. I’ve been playing since December and this just gives me fucking wings
I've had a C whistle for 20 years and started playing it about 8 months ago. I've purchased a D whistle and my boyfriend offered me an aerophone. The more I play the more I understand, but after watching this performance, man, I know nothing 😂
This is just out of this world!
Genious
Это самая гениальная игра на вистле. Ничего более изумительней не встречал за 3 года активных прослушиваний.
This is one of the most fantastic things I have ever heard. I had never imagined such a simple instrument could make sounds like this. I really hope the youtube algorithm picks up on this one some day, this deserves to be shown to millions of people!
I love everything about this video. The performance, the posters, the sound quality, the fridge stickers 🥰
😅
You have made possible what I would have never thought possible! Bravo. Such virtuosity… in a kitchen! Mind blowing. You have upped the bar for all tin whistlers 😊
This si superb. I taught folk music on tinewhistle for decades, and thsi is some of the best whistling I have ever heard. If ain't baroque, don't fix it. You should do an albums' worth of this sort of thing, 5 years and only 500 likes? Well, it deserves 5 biilion. Bach would be pleased.
That performance just lifts the spirit. Thank you.
Chapeau! I'm 5 years late, but any year now the algorithm is going to pick this up and it's going to explode.
Saw someone post this video on Facebook so I came here, started reading the comments and see I wrote the one above two years ago. But I've absolutely no memory of writing it or seeing this video before. Must have been a heavy session!!!
I feel that wooden whistles don't get enough credit,I believe that they were the original during the Renaissance, maybe I'm wrong. Great video
I dont believe in what i am seeing :OOO
Fantastique, bravo et merci
Antoine; I am aware that you've modified Bach's piece considerably to make it doable on a whistle, but if you learned that by ear and had no dots for reference below you whilst playing, then that's a fine and heroic feat of memory! Do more Bach!
i needed this today, its totally reignited my whistle passion! Just spectacular;
Wow .!! I never thought this could be possible.
Are you even human?! Your technique is mindblowing. I love the art posters behind you as well, it just adds to the coolness of the video :)
The most amazing thing I've seen in a very long time.
Incredible. Bravo. Your half holing technique is extraordinary.
Bravo!
Extraordinaire ! Merci !
Magnifique!
Stunning
Sounds amazing.
Dude,,,awesome playing,,,blown away
Just amazing!!
fabulous playing
Vraiment fantastique. Quelle dextérité ! Bravo !
WOW ! Praise where praise is due ..
Outstanding!
That was awesome, and I don't use that word very often.
This is amazing. I've never thought that halfholing on a whistle can be so effective. I imagine how loud and penetrating the highest notes must be, especially on a soprano D whistle. Truly masterful, anyway. Have you got some any lower whistles. Do you plan to post some more videos with classical music? Best wishes and much respect. This video deserves to have a million views.
Hi and thanks very much for your message. I play mostly on this whistle, but I have another one lower, in G. You can hear it on this site : soundcloud.com/tags/tin%20whistle%20flutalor on the tune who call "La Sorcière". And you will can hear 2 others classical tune, "La marche Turque" and "Bad in Riz" (La Badinerie).
Bye,
Antoine
So gorgeous, such a great technique! Keep playing like that and make people believe that whistles are not toys for playing only diatonic tunes! What low G whistle do you play?
Thanks Piotr, I agree with you, it's not a toy only for diatonic tunes, I wrote something on this subject for my studies : www.irishtrad.fr/coffi/Antoine%20Pihier/M%C3%A9moire%20Antoine%20PIHIER%20tin%20whistle.pdf
It's in french sorry... My whistle in G is from a french instrument maker who call Yvon Le Coant, very nice whistle : www.lecoant.com/articles.php?lng=fr&pg=61

Please don't apologise for writing your dissertation in French. Je l'ai trouvé fort intéressant. Et chapeau pour le Bach !

Absolutely unbelievable. Thanks so much for sharing your incredible talent.
Well done!
Amazing! An inspiration to take the whistle beyond jigs and reels and tackle some baroque! Thanks.
mind blowing

Late to the party a couple years, but great job! This is the way to do it :)

I did not want that to end. Hope you are still playing.
Wow!!!!!!
Uhhhhh, STUNNING AND BRAVE 🙄🙀❤️
Brave?
@@OriginalFallofMindyes, brave. Not many would dare perform such an iconic piece 😜 🪈Not an insult I assure you. Very impressive 👏
One of my favorite pieces. My dad played for me and our family once in the church he worked at. SO beautiful!
Wow, that was fantastic. I wouldn't have thought it was even possible! I hope you don't mind if I ask a couple of questions:
First of all, I haven't seen many wooden whistles, so I'm wondering if you can play the same piece equally effectively on a more standard metal whistle, or whether this whistle contributes something special.
Second, do you also play the recorder? I play the recorder in Irish sessions, which some people do not consider entirely appropriate, although I do try to play in as traditional a style as I can manage. Your wooden whistle sounds a lot like the wooden recorder I play in sessions, so I was disappointed that there were so few videos on your channel, because I would love to hear some traditional jigs and reels with that wooden whistle sound. Please add more! 😀
Hello and thank you for your message ! I will transfer to my brother Antoine. He has his own chanel and a band now : Moher Bzh, that’s why there is so few videos here.

Hello and thank you for your message!
The half holing work very well on a good quality metal whistle, on Generation whistles they also work but the sound is not clear, you hear more air blow in my opinion. The choice of the wooden whistle is more for the warmth of the sound, which suits me better but it works in exactly the same way as a metal whistle.
I don't play the recorder (at least not since middle school...) but I think that as long as you play in the style, there are no limits to the instrumentarium. I have a friend who plays the clarinet and she plays the style perfectly, with the ornamentations so it sounds very good !
If you want to listen jigs and reels, you can follow the links that Leslie suggested to you, or otherwise there is this old video from my 20s..! czcams.com/video/r5SCT81e5yQ/video.html

Epic
One wortd: Wow!
How? Bravo sir.
Anybody know what whistle this is? This is one of the most brilliant solo instrumental performances of all time, and should be performed in great concert halls rather than a kitchen.
😮❤👏🏻👏🏻
can you please upload a music sheet for tin whistle?
Me suscribo... Has el tutorial de ésta pieza extraordinaria por favor !!!
Maradona of the flute 👏👍
Excellent!!!! Luckily I have done one from Bach on my whistle too but didn't upload video yet, which the piece is BWV 1006 preludio
Can't wait to hear that, let me know when you post it.
@@antoinepihier35 awww really!!!!?Thanks for the kind words, I will let you know for sure hehehehe, still manage to try if i can master circle breathing and use it on the BWV 1006 preludio then i can complete them and upload hehehe, you are awesome, it’s so luck to find a whistle player who plays these great pieces like you on CZcams, salute :)

Is that a Jon Swayne high D whistle?
Absolutely stunning playing. :-)
Yes it's a Swayne. Thanks for the compliment.
Utterly unbelievable! Congratulations!
! O M G ! Is amazing! Pls i need notes
His whistle can have any key bruuuhhh what :O
Very nice. Which whistle? I want one like you that can play the bottom hole as a half hole while still sounding clear
Hi, thanks, it's a Jon Swayne one in D.
Well played, and well arranged. I don't suppose you could share the sheet music of your transcription?
Thanks Paul, sorry, I can't share the sheet music because it doesn't exist ! I learn it by ear.
Impossible
Super late but what tone is the whistle? Sounds like C?
Awesome. Where could I find the score to play in D tin whistle?
I learn it by ear from classical flute version, no score I think... Sorry...
Wonderful! I don't suppose you have the sheet music for your version?
Thank's Paul, no, I didn't use the sheet music, I learned it by ear on a classical flute version.
@@antoinepihier35 Thanks anyway. You did a great job on a difficult piece.
@@paulbusman2570 I Paul, I started a new youtube channel, here the link to my new video : czcams.com/video/qCThKTyUQYU/video.html
Wow! How this is possible?!?
Half-holing to get the full scale and lots of practice.
You could probably also use some cross-fingerings like on the baroque flute but that depends on the whistle. On a thick walled model, like this one, a lot of the cross-fingerings should actually work. There are fingerings charts online for baroque flute or marching band fifes. A lot of the fingerings can be adapted. The most difficult note is to half hole the lowest note to get D#. You need the right whistle for that. That's also the reason why baroque flutes have one key - it's mainly used for the D# or Eb.
The more impressive feat is memorizing this whole tune by ear.
@@MrSeedi76 Thanks, I'll check it :)
