    I've been working at home for several years and couldn't be happier. I've had store fronts and worked for other shops as well. The best advertisement for an at home biz is def word of mouth. I do huge fishing tournaments etc. that I had problems selling at first but came back around due to good reviews spread about my printing. Good luck everybody!

    That’s great. I’m so happy to hear I could be of such assistance to you. I appreciate your taking the time to say thanks. I would agree if you can afford a higher quality item then get it but I do sell a Chinese heat press myself that has been decent for my customers for years now. I don’t recommend all in one type units however. Thanks for the sub and the support :) Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    Thank you :) I covered just a few basics I think but I tried to be informative. Looks like Carolyn Quartermaine's work is hand painted fabric or other dyeing techniques perhaps historical in nature. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    When we started, we used all the mailing lists that we could find. Places like the local Chamber of Commerce and group mailing lists that my wife was on (that for some unknown reason they showed all the email addresses). We also used the yellow pages and Google to round out the list. Any we had physical addresses to, we either mailed a personalized form letter to them or hand delivered. This likely cost us under $150 and we instantly had $1000 profit the week after opening.
    We also had our local rag (aka newspaper) do a story on us. That cost us nothing but a little time and netted us another couple G's within about a 3 week period (we are unsure how far that spread as we are still getting people saying, "I saw you in the Times."
    Now Jonathan, I've got a Q for you, most screen printers state a plus/minus allotment on orders that are in bulk and charge more for exact numbers. How does one convince a customer (short of adding a huge surcharge per shirt) that bulk orders will work for them and that we are going to be fair about possible minuses?

    Hi. I'm a printing business owner based in the UK, and I sure am glad to have found your videos. My business started to go downhill and I needed to know why. You've given me a lot of great ideas and inspiration. Thank you so much for making these videos. You definately have a new subscriber lol. One thing I learned? Never buy a cheap heatpress... they seem to go "bang!" :( (cue me running round explaining to customers! hahaa)

    I've gotten a lot of work out of my neighborhood Listserve. It's an email only list that you can set up like a Yahoo Group (used mostly for "Hey, I'm selling my lawnmower for $50." or "My kid wants to start babysitting, give us a call" kind of stuff) and i just ping it now and then with "Contact Durham Short Run Shirts for your printing needs for office parties, school field trips, family reunions, etc." . I've gotten quite a few jobs that way, and it was free to post. :)

    Actually, for the most of her work it is screen printing, according to what she says, and she also teaches that at the Royal College of Art in London. But she doesn't like the motives to look too perfect, she likes the marks and the mistakes. For example her 18th century entries motives are screen printing for sure. Hence my curiosity for her work, and for screen printing in general. I already tried years ago, it's fun! Thank you for your answer anyway.

    Hey there, sorry for the late reply but I have been so busy printing and keeping up with all of my internet duties. I agree word of mouth works the best for screen printing advertisement. That’s why it helps of you have a big social network of your own to start out with and expand from there like throwing a pock in the middle of a small quiet pond... just watch the ripples :) Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    @Scott K-T Thanks for sharing. Good points. Yellow Pages and Google can cost some though. Having a location is a huge advantage in itself unless you’re tucked away somewhere. Sounds like you covered all the based for a store opening. Sweet :) I’m not sure about your question. How do you convince anyone of anything? I’m not a typical salesman so I handle my work much differently. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

    You should work in marketing! you covered almost everything.
    Gift certificates are not bad either, to be left everywhere in the neighborhood, or even on Yelp, it worked well for my store, but I am not a screen printer.
    I am interested in your videos, because I want to print entries, lettering on fabrics and use these fabrics to make cushions or other things for home decor. Stencils are not good enough for what I want. Something close to Carolyn Quartermaine's work, if you are interested...

    A magnetic sign is a flexible piece of magnetic material that can be printed in various ways, cut into shapes and used to adhere to the sides of vehicles like cars and trucks. They are great for small businesses when you might want to take them off at times. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    Hey mate, great videos, I'm quite amazed, must be a lot of work and effort to do all that. I started working (just as an emloyee) in screen print company just few months ago and I like it. To find some help about s.p. in Czech republic, internet, forums etc. is almost impossible. All s.p. proffessionals won't tell you "their secrets" because they're scared of competition. So thanks for your great videos and if you have some tips and tricks on printing transfers I'd love to see that.J.

    Great info. I'm starting up my screen printing business in November. This was very informative. Considering my own designs along with jobs for events, businesses teams etc. what are your thought on doing both. Or should I focus on one?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  Před 7 lety +1

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. I would focus on the commercial side of printing and then perhaps do some branding later when your business is stronger. That way you can handle the prototyping and marketing needed for branded logo wear while bringing in the bread and butter with commercial work. Thanks for watching! Very interesting, it looks so non printed one wonders why print at all... or not. You know how artists can be. There may be a reason for it. But it’s pretty cool work. There are many different ways of creating stencils on screens so maybe that is what part of the process is about. Thanks for the support! ☠
