  • It's a multi-billion dollar battle for your belly. Millions of people are joining the anti-wheat revolution.
Kellogg's, the world's largest cereal maker, has seen its biggest drop in sales since the 1970s. Food companies are selling off their struggling bread divisions. It's all because best-selling health evangelists say that wheat is causing everything from fat bellies to schizophrenia. But do they have science on their side? Mark Kelley takes a hard look at what's driving a movement that is dramatically changing the way we eat.

I had major stomach issues for 28 years, which inadvertently affected other parts of my health. I saw Specialist after Specialist to no avail. I went gluten free, dairy free and sugar free and within 1 week I was cured. I wish Doctors told me this 28 years ago! I’m not saying this will work for everyone, but it most definitely worked for me.

Absolutely everyone has issues with sugar. I’m glad you’re doing better, but don’t be to quick to Blane it on gluten until you’ve been medically tested.

And it's sprayed on wheat, corn, oats, soybeans and more which means that if it is the glyphosate, merely avoiding wheat is not the answer.

      Great Info …
Stephanie Seneff said two things :
      2. Glyphosate (in everything we eat/drink) uncouples the tight junctions in the gut that protect us from food waste moving through the gut wall.
The uncoupling allows toxins in and is the cause of many illnesses (not least leaky gut)
      2. Glyphosate molecule is similar to that of GLYCINE which is very necessary for our health. This allows the totally toxic Glyphosate to bind to the receptor sites for Glycine - so our health deteriorates.
Authorities claim Glyphosate is harmless ??? Apparently it is used world wide and is poisoning the planet. Research ZACH BUSH -his *Vermont* lecture is a good place to start.

Then we started to have people who came to Canada saying they were having gut problems when they ate flour in Canada, but not back in their home countries. I'm with you on that. I'm thin healthy and run around the oval. I left the dago diet behind over 15 years ago. I looked at the structure of starch. It's all glucose, all sugar. But bread, rice and pasta does not taste sweet. That's the deception. What's happening is the glucose peak. This was the myth. We don't get an energy lift after sugar intake. We actually get a low. I even fall asleep after coffee and toast. The toast is making me tired. Then hours later comes the energy and the massive hunger cravings. This is the cycle and the 'addiction' people claim they have. Along with the mood swings. I test this out occasionally. I may eat a bowl of pasta once every five years and sure enough, I'm half alive and then moody, stodgy bowel, followed by cravings.
Nothing in this report mentioned the glucose peak. This is the crux of everybody's suffering.

Introduced gluten back and 3 days after a couple of innocent cookies and garlic bread he was wheezing. Tried that out a couple of times and every time he was wheezing after a couple of days. He is not celiac, but I am convinced the gluten causes his asthma symptoms to flare.

It sounds like your disappointed because you expected the program to validate your opinions and when it didn't you decided to instead discredit their investigation based on baseless accusations and unfounded conspiracies. You feel personally attacked because this investigation did not confirm your life choice. This sort of close minded position that so easily shuts down opposition without consideration, but with slander, is childish, and quite frankly sad.
Try to be open minded and listen to any evidence put forth. Draw your own conclusions, but base them on the evidence and not on perceived conspiracies or simply because you do not like what you hear.
Am I saying your wrong, no. You may well be right. Am I saying you are opinionated and offer no evidence for your opinions, yes. Declaring unfounded opinions and conspiracies based on suspicion does not help. Everyone who is serious about this should look at the evidence available and then draw their own conclusions. My friend recommended going off wheat so I tried it for four months. The drop in inflammation in my joints was dramatic, but it took that long. I wasn't even doing it for that reason, I was doing it because I wanted to lose weight. I don't know if it helped for the weight loss, but the sharp drop in joint inflammation was enough to make me swear off wheat forever. I personally don't give a rats banana what other people think about it, I did it for my own health and happiness.

This is the first time I came across this Doc and I am not sure that I can confirm everything he says. But I will say this. Until 30 years ago I ate wheat most of my life. In the 1980s I stopped making my own bread and began to eat bread which I bought in stores. Suddenly weight gain began to pile on and my belly grew until it became embarrassing. But the worse part is that my vision began to fail. I can give a long list of side effects. Today if I eat bread from a bakery I get a severe reaction in my stomach as if I am getting a heart attack. However, if we make bread at home using organic wheat, I do not get the heart attack effect. However weight gain still comes on, although at a slower rate and there is nothing you can do to make it go away. When I cut out wheat, I lose weight at a rapid rate. I lost 35 lbs recently and I feel so much better.
My independent test from my own life experience's conclusion, independent of anybody's books, tells me "Eat today's wheat at your own risk".

The latest science has found that it's actually carbs that's the culprit. And in that regard, corn, rice and potatoes are even worse than wheat in carb content and glycemic index. Also, not all vegetables are healthy. For example, beans, sweet potatoes, rutabaga, turnips and beets are to be avoided. At the very beginning of this documentary, Davis is having a meal without wheat but he's drinking red wine... Those of us who follow a Keto lifestyle know that alcohol is even worse than wheat.

If you don't have celiac disease or any sort of gluten intolerance then it won't make a difference. As someone who studies dietetics you people need to realise that people with real gluten intolerance have their small intestine destroyed by an auto-immune response to gliadin (a part of the gluten protein). It's genetic and a doctor can test you to see if your body is producing these immune bodies in high numbers. People without the genetic mutation have absolutely no problem digesting gluten. Gluten also has no effect on your cholesterol profile or weight gain.

The protein and gluten level had increased in wheat from what it was long ago. What changed is how bread is prepared. Europe still uses the the slow sour bread method that gives natural yeasts a day or so break down the gluten into proteins before they bake the bread. These glutens are easier to digest then gluten. Western bread uses a fast yeast, and only an hour or so to rise, which doesn't fully break down the gluten into proteins we can digest. Sourdough is more nutritious, easier to digest, and has a lower glycemic index. Sourdough also contains less gluten than other bread. So much so, that folks who typically suffer from gluten sensitivities can often eat artisan or homemade sourdough bread with little-to-no ill effects.

Thank you to The Fifth Estate for presenting both sides in their reports. While there are certainly people who must avoid certain foods or components of food, that doesn't make Wheat a blanket enemy. Wheat is and has been a nutritional necessity for billions of people all over the world. Those in the 1st world countries are discovering themselves having health issues for many reasons, but mostly because of the nutrient deficient, over processed ingredients in our food. Bread as most of us know it is "white bread". It is made with flour that has been stripped of it's nutrition, fiber and almost all of the components that made natural whole grain flour healthy. Some say that it is healthy because the companies put back in some of the stuff that was removed. But they don't return all, and what they do put back in are synthetic because leaving them in or replacing with natural components would make it non shelf stable. Natural wheat flour bread made with whole grain wheat that is not heavily processed is healthy, but does spoil quickly. The natural flour itself is less shelf stable so it must be used more quickly than people will be able to buy it. The dangerous things added to the food items we are eating are sugar, bleach, synthetic chemicals, fillers, preservatives and in some cases, the pesticides used on the grain during the growing process. Eliminating all products from a diet that contain wheat, eliminates all those bad things but is Dr Davis looking at that? His shortsightedness eliminates a lot of healthy nutrition in order to cut out the items that are the real danger. Will people lose weight on a diet without wheat? Of course. Eliminating all foods that contain wheat means cutting out the over processed flour foods that so many are eating like white bread, pasta, cereals, crackers, bakery, cookies, gravies and sauces - all of which contain wheat, but also contain a host of fats, sugars, salt, chemicals and preservatives that are the real culprits.
Look at people who live in areas where pasta is eaten daily and often at every meal. Many live well into their 90s and even beyond 100. How? The pasta is made with hard Durham wheat and not adulterated with nearly as many chemicals as other countries. The wheat itself isn't the problem - it is what happens to the flour during the processing and what is added to the pasta dish after cooking. The rest of their diet consists of low protein (3-6 ounces per day) and a much higher amount of fresh vegetables and fruits than we typically eat at each meal. Dishes are more natural, served with only a drizzle of simple fats or vinegar and oil instead of heavy dressings.
Rice has also become a nutrient deficient item. Stripped of most of it's vitamins and fiber during processing to give us a fluffy, light item to carry a sauce or gravy for flavor. Brown rice is better, by keeping it's fiber and nutrition and it keeps us full longer - allowing our bodies time to process any sugars that are added by consuming fruits, vegetables and sauces that are added to the meal. This helps us avoid the glucose spikes that diabetics often experience.
As our species have explored the glove and discovered new and exciting foods - we want them. But many don't travel well in their natural state so they are harvested before they are ripe or are processed with chemicals to survive the travel. The real health culprits are in those things that our bodies were not designed to eat and the fact that industry has not found a way to keep foods in their natural, intact state long enough to get them from the farms to the table without spoiling. It is cheaper for them to strip the nutrition that allows food to spoil quickly and add in synthetic additives, salts, sugars and preservatives that our bodies can't process.

Funny how you claim that sugar (a 100% carbohydrate) is dangerous, but whole wheat which is also carbohydrate by 75% is nutritious, lol. No, it is not, it's poison by 75%, not to mention the gluten thing in addition.

    • @hwkluth

@@leykimayri Sugar and highly processed foods containing little fiber or nutrition are dangerous. Ingesting large amounts of simple carbs will spike glucose levels very quickly for those who are diabetic. Whole grain Durham wheat does have carbohydrates but it also has protein and nutrients that slow it's being absorbed - allowing the body time to handle the more complex carb. As a diabetic, I have studied and experimented with many dishes containing carbs to manage my glucose levels without having to take insulin. It is a matter of moderation and balancing carb and protein intake.
Yes, wheat products do contain gluten and that is a problem for those with gluten intolerance.

the addiction and opiate part is very true. As someone new into Keto (4th week) I can say that not only am I losing a lot of weight but I feel more energized. Carbs and ultimately the sugar they turn into is what is addictive, so wheat and potatoes etc. I eat once a day now, a good keto meal and it is a much smaller portion of what I used to eat when I was having wheat and carbs. But I feel full and I can go 16 hours without eating without feeling sluggish or having a grumbling stomach.
this was not the case at the start and the first few days were hell, it was like going cold turkey on an addiction. I feel that the hunger we experience which causes us to overeat is a symptom of bodily addiction to modern carbs. Once we beat the addiction, we beat the hunger, we eat less and healthier and we are happier!

Just read a modern medical manual of "Toxicology" from which our doctors are trained. Sad, sad to read that fluoride, aluminum and mercury was blanked out from the list of most toxic elements to our body. So, if the doctors don't clue in and they are not allowed by PROCEDURES to seek the cause of us being sick, then who will help us???

Disinformation is meant to get you 1.) trusting nothing you hear and 2.) getting you to revert to old ways -- be they smoking, eating ice cream, eating wheat or whatever. As for this instance, why not just try quitting wheat for a while and seeing what happens? Then you can know for yourself -- no need to trust, believe and such.

I did go gluten free for 3 years. Drove me crazy. This is hard to do. Especially when you travel. The only thing I noticed which was improved in my health was no more constipation. I am back eating wheat. I have one toast now, not two. I have a little pasta when I feel like it. I think boxed cereal were always junk food and I knew that even before all this talk about glutens and genetically modified wheat. My life is less stressful eating this way as these wheat replacement options were not tasty and required a lot of prepation. Perhaps the problem is we are all eating too much wheat. Look at the size of a baggle now or a muffin or a donut compared to what the size was in the 60's. They are huge. And so are our bellies.

I myself am neither anti or pro wheat. I eat bread and pasta on occasion, but not as a daily thing to consume because I consider wheat to be what it is - a mostly inferior food product that has a very low nutrient/calorie ratio. It's basically one notch above pure table sugar in terms of nutrition, especially when you consider the amount of processing wheat goes through before it ends up on your plate. There's better and more nutritious stuff to eat than bread and pasta.

@cobainzlady Most Non GM wheat itself (at maturity) is doused with glyphosate to DRY it quickly just before harvest. This saves the farmer several weeks natural drying time. So the labels reasuring people the packaged food is GMO free are giving consumers false confidence. It is not a different issue when wheat is increasingly causing "allergic" reactions.
