My first introduction to Jedd Hughes. That’s what I like about your channel, Otis. Meeting all sorts of people I would never know otherwise. These two interviews with Jedd are great. Great insight into where the music comes from and those who make it.

I just watched EmmyLou Harris and Rodney Crowell playing Tulsa Queen at Austin City Limits from 2014 with a very dapper young Jedd Hughes on the Telecaster, man that was a beautiful performance!
I have a Jedd Hughes single High Lonesome " that I picked up at Tower Records in Reno back in 2003 or so.. It's a cooker ! 🎵
A lot of my favorite songs are written by Rodney. I wouldn't say he doesn't get any recognition but his name is often overlooked when people think about great songwriters.

I know what Jedd means about wanting to play music that changes every night. That’s where I thrive as well.
I remember reading an interview with Daryl Jones decades ago where he talked about going from gigging with Miles Davis to Madonna. The interviewer asked him what that was like and Daryl said that most of the Madonna bass lines were doubled on synth so there wasn’t really room for improv or change.
He decided to really dig into how he could very subtly change how he approached playing the same notes but altering the touch or other intricacies of the parts without conflicting with the synth.
It made me realize how much can get passed over as mundane but with a different mindset I could really gain so much knowledge of things I wouldn’t have even considered. Maybe that’s just a survival mechanism in a less than ideal musical situation.
That was really wonderful to listen to someone who has played the shows and lives that "another chance to be the best I can be" kind of approach to music and life. No wonder everybody love s Jedd. Tom and everyone in the Vince Gill band the other night were just giving off the vibes like "boy I wish I was playin' with them tonight" Thanks Otis.
I am so glad you mentioned Buddy Miller. My phone, with all of his stuff got destroyed.....and I am so old , I couldn't remember his name. 😅. Funny how things work. .Many thanks.
Some advice I got way back when I started, be a guy people like and want to be around. You don't have to be the best player in the room, if people like you that makes up for a lot. That was 50ish years ago, I always remembered and lived that. Jedd is a really nice guy. Thanks Otis! 8) --gary

It was through being a Rodney Crowell fan that I first heard Jedd's playing. Rodney always has great guitarists and Jedd fits right in that line.
Loving these interviews with Jedd...great stuff! He mentioned Buddy Miller and I thought he would be another great interview. Buddy has played with everybody and I'm sure he has some great memories to share.
Jedd is such a down to earth cat and a wonderful player!
