Love it! Fantastic! Marilyn Manson wasn't one of my favorite artists until I saw him years later in an interview.
Turns out he's a lot of things but certainly not intellectually light.
He's weird but who isn't. He's a performance artist as much as a musician. He said in an interview, (and I'm paraphrasing because I'm too lazy to look it up and cite it) "People's reactions to what I do is part of the performance."
He's exactly 16 years younger than me and from a genre of music that I wasn't into at it's heights if it ever really had that in America because it was underappreciated and because of earlier forms like early punk rock and the self-destructive persona that were in the early beginnings of punk: eg. Sid Vicious.
One blow that damaged his career was the Columbine
Highschool Massacre.
Manson denounced the crimes and said they didn't represent his beliefs. After listening to Manson speak several times and researching his past, I'm pretty sure that the Columbine killers heard what they wanted to hear.
In an interview I saw on Bill O'Reilly he said, "Those kids ended up on the cover of Time magazine twice, the media gave them exactly what they wanted. I never did any interviews around that time when I was being blamed for it because I didn't want to contribute to something that I found to be reprehensible."
