I used to live in Las Vegas (2006-2012) and would hang out in the lounge at the Artisan Hotel, a small boutique hotel off the strip. Ronnie Foster would play there and Drew Zingg would play guitar for him. I got to meet him and found out he used to play with Steely Dan in the 90s, one of my favorite groups of all time. I saw him there many times. One night David Sanborn dropped by and sat in. Ronnie Foster has a lot of famous friends.
The jazz of the mid fifties to mid sixties died out as Rock and Roll hit the scene. However, Jazz came back in the seventies as Jazz/Rock fusion. It was awesome! By the eighties Rock-N-Roll turned into Heavy Metal with heavy anti-Christian lyrics, hair cuts like Barbie, and clown suits. I chose the jazz track. Steely Dan was a great mic of Jazz/Rock/Blues/Pop that was like the sound track of my life. The corporations bought all the jazz stations up and reformatted them to Smooth Jazz by the 2000s. Many jazz lovers have returned to the Standards and the Real Jazz community.

This is so cool! Drew and I were in the same (fairly small) high school class, and to be honest, I barely knew him. Years later, I'm at a Steely Dan concert in Boston, and marveling at the guy who had just played his own version of the kick-ass solo from My Old School. A few minutes later, he's introduced, and I'm wondering whether I'd heard it correctly, or how many people could possibly be named Drew Zingg. Did a little research, and quickly figured out it was my former classmate! Enjoying the interview, and just subscribed to the channel!
