- A funny thing is happening in this election: the younger voters are liking Trump more and more, and the over 60 crowd, which normally leans Republican, is this time preferring Biden.
I was always told by my parents "not to always believe what you see on tv or the internet". Now they believe everything they see on tv and the internet.
Old people (like women and children) are more vulnerable and therefore more fearful, becoming susceptible to propaganda and scams as they consume TV the most and are less comfortable with technology. It's much easier to give someone else advice from an outsider's perspective than to apply similar insights to your own life.
@@SukiKnight Uh... woman here. I'm perfectly capable of critical thinking and not susceptible to fear mongering and propaganda.
Sadly, what is happening is that minorities are now in their neighborhoods. Minorities who don't behave the same as older white people. Sometimes they aren't friendly, sometimes crime increases. Sometimes they are perfectly wonderful friendly people - but not often enough. My grandmother got mugged and hurt and believe me when I tell you, she looks at her neighborhood differently now. It's sad but that is a big part of some older people's opinions now.

I'm a physical therapist in a nursing home and I see this all the time. The elderly get thrown into a facility and are lucky to get an occasional visit from family.
I used to live in Nicaragua, and this sort of shit does not fly (and they can't afford that sort of care anyways). Families respect and take great care of their elders there and in most countries around the world.
America gov and the medical industry finds that anyone over 85 is not worth the time and effort and money.
My friends 88 father was in the emergency room and the doctor made a snarky comment about the patient being old and shrugged his shoulders.
He takes care of his dad at home and the siblings don't offer any help. Just waiting for payday.
I’m not an elderly babysitter.
i think it works both way here, when they are young they do not take care of their kids neither, they go from ex wife to several ex girlfriends boyfriends, they live their live dropping off their kids at their ex, grannies aunties … most kids are just step-siblings .. why would i want to take care of a father who went to seek his own pleasure leaving me behind? or mother who was bringing a new boyfriend every other month , was going on vacation with them not with me … and when both are to old to take care of themselves suddenly they are my responsibility???
I’m sure they can spend a large portion of their time in Nicaragua tending to the old and infirm, but unless we want to federally mandate that people with old relatives can work 10 hour weeks, are immune from being fired, and must receive full pay this is what you get. Would you have the parents, each working a full time job and spending the entirety of their evenings raising their children, also be forced to take care of their elderly parents? There’s simply not enough time in the day for such a thing in modern societies.
If we had the concept of multi-generational homes it might be different, but America’s old desire all of the attention and care of the young and don’t want to fill their own traditional roles (assisting with raising kids, tending to the house when able, etc.). That’s not to mention that they used to, you know, actually die before they reached 90. Looking after a 90 year old, much less two or more as some households would have to do, is a full time job and then some. When people were dropping dead in their 60s and early 70s they had a much higher quality of life, required much less care, and still assisted in day to day life. None of those things are true of modern elder care.
This is one of the down sides of being an American. We are taught to grow up and be independent. When we get old; we have no one. Most of the time I enjoy my alone. But; sometimes it is nice to have someone to help with the grocery shopping in which I don't have. Just a little time to help and maybe keep company. Not much. Not all day. Just a little help
Bill is wrong.
It’s the difference between believing the MSM at face value and knowing every news source may be wrong at any time.
Partially. The biggest issue is when dis/mis information is protected as "freedom of speech" and passed off as fact... And "the believers" take it at face value. When did lying become ok?
@@edg3048You’d have to way back to when Biden first ran for office…

Internet made things really weird. On one hand it decimated profits of media, so they can't hire people to actually cover the stories. On the other hand it created weird communities of people called information bubbles. Every weirdo can find like minded people all over the world.
And now people try to gather the pieces and talk about disinformation and misinformation.
MSM stands for mainstream news. By and large it's the truth, but doesn't tell you everything that you need to know.
They're teams of human beings. Of course they can be wrong, then and now. The difference is, when they were wrong then, they made a correction/retraction and apologized because they tried to deliver the facts and not take sides. Now, they double down on the BS because it delivers voters to their side. Then it was news. Now it's propaganda.
The other day I was sitting at a bar with another boomer, and we were making fun of younger girls in there constantly taking selfies. I said "The apollo astronaut team took something like 20 pictures of their entire moon landing, and the average Gen Z chick in this bar probably takes more bathroom selfies than that on any given day." I said it as a joke, but then he looked at me and said "That would be true, except we never landed on the moon. It was all a big hoax." I did my best Adam Rose eyeroll and started talking to the person on the other side of me.
1970s meme: Ever notice that the same people who believe the moon landing was a hoax believe that professional wrestling is real?
The hoax crowd is so ignorant they don't know there were 6 manned Moon landings between 1969 and 1972. There would have been 7 but the Apollo 13 mission had a mechanical failure and just circled the Moon. Apollo 8 orbited the Moon multiple times and was on live TV Christmas Eve 1968. Even our main rival at the time, the Soviet Union, never disputed the veracity and success of these missions.

Bill Maher’s point of view on how we treated elderly people are spot on!!!
OK, in older peoples defense we’ve seen some shit go down that nobody would’ve believed was happening. So the ridiculous stuff doesn’t sound so ridiculous.
There's an aspect to this that he touched on but didn't fully delve into: The modern loneliness epidemic has to be doubly hard on people who have been conditioned to socializing in person their whole lives.
He's mentioned it actually in pervious videos, you'll just have to look back to find them.
@bored1ca I know that he's talked about the loneliness epidemic but I don't think he's delved into it specifically as it relates to the elderly.
I started watching the show catfish with my daughter and I was going nuts thinking how foolish people are to think they were in a long term long distance relationship with someone they have never spoken to. I think the lonely people of the world are looking to belong to something on both sides. The far left and the far right are both clinging to non-sense hoping to belong to something bigger. The protests and arguments on social media. Do you ever remember a time where everything on TV or life was so overly politicized. Here I am clicking on a bill mahr video looking for entertainment or maybe I am to hear looking for something i agree with. Pretty sad times we are in.
That’s is so true.
But he did talk about the loneliness at the end.
Beautiful. That’s how history repeats itself - through neglecting of wisdom and trashing the truth
Yea? Because you just believe this article from Techcrunch? No peer review, no science, nothing. He doesn't even link to this article for us to read.
The history that repeats is that people are stupid. People will literally believe, anything, especially if their favorite celebrity says it. They won't even make any efforts to determine the truth.
I offer you as my evidence.
Are kids even being taught history anymore? I'm living in Idaho and I know for a fact they're not being taught spelling and grammar here, but when I see people my age spewing the ridiculousness on Facebook I am bewildered. And they all claim to be patriots and wave their flags around.

I don't believe Bill's comments. I'm 85 yrs old and none of this applies to me at all. I'm constantly questioning the news I hear and try to fact check things. I try to think I'm using critical thinking and do not swallow things just because it's in print or on my computer. Bill sometimes puts things and people in boxes which don't fit us all or even come close. Take what he says with a grain of salt and do some fact checking.

It was a generalization that’s pretty close for many older people. I’m 65 so part of that group and think he hit the nail on the head.

Every generation has had them and every one coming will too.

Now I got NEWS for you. Some idiot ran over my dog, just to kill her. Young people helped me and she is alive and I thank God for all the help the young people gave me. Many people in my generation would want to know what's in it for them. I don't hate young people.

Regardless of age, people 1. Believe what they want to believe 2. Sometimes are too lazy or prejudiced to find the truth.
I disagree with #1 and mostly agree with #2. There are people who do only want to believe true things, but they still have their regular lives to lead. Like nobody has the time or interest to just dig deep and research everything, because that is what it would take. There is also a matter of intelligence, in that some people have a hard time figuring out what is true even after doing a bunch of research. So they just have to kind of go with their gut or they just remain neutral.

I'm 57, on the older side of Gen X, an Army veteran, and reasonable liberal in my views. I agree we shouldn't disregard our elderly and the wisdom they can give. There is a big BUT in that argument and Donald Trump is living proof that with age, you don't necessarily get wisdom. If Trump wasn't protected by his family's fortune, I feel natural selection would have taken its course. If Trump somehow was drafted and went to Vietnam, I feel he would have been a "victim " of friendly fire. Wisdom is the combination of knowledge, knowing how and when to use it, and being humble enough to ask for help and advice from others in areas you aren't skilled in.

@@derkeheath5172I’m sure your daughter hangs out with dudes dressed up like women and queers for Palestine. Not young people who can actually hold down a job and have morals.
The last stat I saw showed a majority of 30 and unders are not voting for Trump. It's possible they mean the 35-55 demographic, which has been that way for a few cycles, specifically the working class. Which is boggling, considering they think a guy who craps on gold toilets and uses his connections to get out of jams average people can't escape, speaks for them.
It’s a trend that is showing up in polling numbers. I find polls to be increasingly wrong. In this case I would not be surprised if some are trolling the polls and lying about supporting Trump.
