    I had a truck camper with 4x4. Things get tossed about unless you go slower. This set up is good for the desert, on a dirt road. Forest roads are narrow because of trees and hill sides. I think you spend a lot of money, loose driving comfort and MPG. As far as hitting brush sure but rocks, that is just stupid unless you want a leaking oil pan. It's still an RV just lifted five inches and now can't take turns as well. Think about it. Sure it looks cool if that is what you need.

    I dig it. Planning on having you do the lift and suspension etc work on my E350 van.

    These lifted RV's are awesome. You have got me thinking about building a Chevy Express "adventure" van - or finding and lifting a Road Trek 190. I have a Duramax Colorado that is nearly set up for camping, but the cool factor of an off road van is almost too much to resist!! (Not too mention really nice when it's too cold to sleep in a roof top tent.)

    I really dig these Chinook's. They check a lot boxes for this size camper. I'm on the fence between a Chinook vs a lifted and converted van "Baja grocery getter". The camping comfort you get in a Chinook is far above a van conversion, especially for the price, but a converted van will get you into the Backcountry albeit slowly. I'd really like to see what this lifted Chinook could do off road. Re-route the generator exhaust and modify the rear step to get more departure angle. I've seen lots of these Chinook's lifted but no road test videos in the dirt. Someone with a lift, please show what it can do! 🙏

    I’m confused. Watching these videos on the grocery getter lift for class c rvs, sometimes referred to as a six inch lift and sometimes referred to as a five inch lift, like in this video. And then there is the four inch lift. Are there three versions?

  • @thulsa5218
    @thulsa5218 Před 2 lety

    I liked it better stock. Better longterm drivetrain reliability and long distance highway manners.

    • @raydewitt517
      @raydewitt517 Před 2 lety +2

      Sure, that’s great if you want to stay on the highway. The best parts of this country are off the beaten path.

    • @thulsa5218
      @thulsa5218 Před 2 lety

      @@raydewitt517 yes have fun taking something that big out on the trail. More like a dirt field which the stock suspension is just fine for.

    • @Bajavan1
      @Bajavan1 Před 2 lety

      Completely false. How are you affecting drivetrain reliability? The driveshaft may be at a slightly greater angle. My 5” Weldtec makes the shaft come out of the trans about 1/4” longer than stock. No big deal. Ball joint angles are stock. You have steeper angles on the drag link but it is not binding. Know why? I have 5” of droop so there is no binding. Also, You cannot align these vehicles at stock height to factory specs, ie they all have low caster. The Weldtec system allows better alignment numbers for better highway manners, like 7* caster that you cannot come close to on a stock setup. Many other reasons from shock valving to spring rate, to up travel (no riding on the bump stops), etc. you will have less sway due to higher spring rate but yet a better ride.
      There are plenty of places to take these on mild off road trails. Common sense is these aren’t rock crawlers even with a 4x4 conversion. But driving down rough washboard and unimproved 2 tracks is totally fine and fun. Just having a better departure angle on these rigs is way better than stock and worth it alone.

    • @thulsa5218
      @thulsa5218 Před 2 lety

      @@Bajavan1 bigger tires/wheels and lift always add more leverage/stress to factory ball joints in I-beams, hub bearings, rear axle bearings, u-joints, tie-rods, trailing arm bushings, brakes, ect. You can use drop drop brackets and bent I-beams to minimize harsh driveline angles but the added stress will always be there. It comes down to what your level of cost $ is acceptable for replacement parts for a given amount of mileage. Keep it stock and get 200k plus miles without hardly any repairs. Start lifting and oversize tires and all bets are off. It's just how the game works...been in the auto and offroad industry 25 years and yes there is a pro and con to this kind of stuff.
