- EDC Knife Trends 2024: Love Them or Hate Them. We have see a lot of new innovations in the knife industry or the last few years and some of them I love and some I hope they don’t continue. I’m this video my buddy Copper Dice and I go over several edc knife trends in the last couple years and we decide if we like them or we wish they would just go away. I started EDC fixed blades over 40 yrs ago. I was carrying John Ek for defense, small Westerns for general use, Marbles for camp, etc.. I consider folders to be a secondary tool.
Current fixed carry: Lon Humphrey Retribution, BGM customs and Cold Steel Taipan attached to my shoulder bag. And a Kunwu Pulsar for the fidget.

And yeah Stassa I totally agree with you on the “triple deployment” ….PLEASE STOP! It honestly ruins a knife for me, I think it’s almost ugly at some level. I’m also a bit picky about detent strength. It’s hard enough for manufacturers to dial in the detent on 2 deployments…typically one is better than the other. With 3 they all just seem to be weak.
Personally I would like to see prices go down. We use to see very little increase year to year then 2020 hit and it’s the new norm of knives costing more. Spyderco p2 over 200 now for a G10 knife.
I like Copper Dices take on most everything.

I love the small fixed blade trend. I would love to see more smaller multi tool options like the Powerpint.

I need knife companies to realize that just because I have xl hands doesn't mean I necessarily need an xl blade. I want to see more 4-5 inch handles with sub 3" blades, preferably with crossbar locks.

I'd like to see more titanium pocket clips for fixed blades, like what Vero just came out with. That would be a game changer, I think...

(Meanwhile, I hate Ultum, Button Locks and the constantly increasing prices that have forced me out of the market!)
Trends I don't like:
-Multiple opening methods. The more methods you include, the worse it's gonna be at each of them. It's always a compromise. Just make it excellent at one method.
-Lightning ano. It's just over-the-top flashy. I think it'll be remembered as a fad.
Trends I like:
-Gravity knives. There is so much untapped potential. They deserve further development.
-EDC fixed blades. It's just such a different experience from carrying a folder. It feels special. Also, being simple means you can focus on quality.
The other ones, I don't have a strong opinion about.
Button/compression lock is money all that other stuff can go away anytime

Gonna go left of field and say I’m done with standard flippers. I don’t need any more pocket peckers! Give me the sleek profile of a good front flipper, stick with classic thumb studs or, even better, make a cool-looking Spydie-hole.
I got people that come to me the a POS knife and ask me to put an edge on it.
I've reformed a couple, by gifting them QSP penguins and Ontario rats..
I think the big new trend is adding custom scales to all these new knives out of China. Some CZcamsr is going to show a cheap and easy way to 3D scan and cut out Skalas from fat carbon and custom acrylic and we will see an explosion of customized knives.
I like lexan better than ultem. It's clear and just as durable.

Like the magnetic scale idea but not for the price. Love the pivot button lock. He seems like hes not very interested in innovation at all. Like just give me a new color benchmade and raise the price.
He doesn’t mind the innovation as long as it doesn’t drive the price up but we all know it always does but yeah he thinks like a paw paw with just about everything 🍻
Here we go:
1) button locks--not a fan--looks too easy to accidentally "un-deploy" in a high-stress situation.
2) Ultem scales--no opinion (looks slippery).
3) screwless--my Glock comes apart easier.
4) pivot lock--see "button lock".
5) butterflies--just---no.
6) gravities--still illegal to carry in too many places.
7) EDC fixies--love 'em--carrying more often now--nothing to fail, quick to deploy.
8) flashlights--old school--round.
Just the basics for me--crossbar locks, frame locks, or sturdy liner locks.

Ultem - absolutely hate it! It's ugly as hell, and it's just plastic. I just don't get all the hype.
Button locks are fine as long as thery're made well. I don't chase after them, but I don't avoid them either. If I like the knife overall, then a button lock is not a problem for me. That being said..Real Steel PLEASE bring back the Griffin!! Best button lock ever made!
