Corvette Chassis Jeep Rod is Starting to Look Spicy đ¶

- Äas pĆidĂĄn 23. 02. 2020
- We are getting closer and closer to paint our Corvette chassis Jeep Rod, after some Hydrodip jobs were finished up, I was able to clean up the hood and get the car sanded down, exposing more dents and imperfections than previously known. Yay haha more sanding and body work!

EL Jevette is painted now! Check it out!!
czcams.com/video/QUKaebdqbVM/video.html
I would like to suggest seatbelt buckle to hold down the hood!
I vote for Jeep-looking fenders and latches, to keep the overall look. Great work! Keep it up.
I second that. The round shape of the bug fenders clashes with the straight lines of the Jeep's body. You need to have the front and rear fender positioning settled before finishing the front end.
I agree Jeep style looking fenders, I have said many times would use diamond tread trailer fenders, flat angled cut down in the front to give that jeep look, but mounted up like Prowler fenders do, its the only way they will be able to mount and look good.
Agree
I also agree gents, thanks for the input
The realization of our imperfection is the actualization of our perfection! đđ»đđ„đ„đ„
That was poetic good sir
Shakespeare dudeđđ€Żđ»
Do a inner finder, to help protect under the hood and leave it open wheeled
Great idea!
That's what I would do and then just attach a small "fender flare" to it to make the body flow with the tire.
Yes exactly, NO FENDERS NEEDED !
It's great to see you feeling better. The only advice I can think of is to just have fun. You have a very entertaining personality, what I mean is that anyone can make a CZcams car channel but few can do so and be entertaining to watch. That's a rare talent and you've got the spark.
Glad you are feeling better. Good to have ya back.
Thanks Ray!
Nope!!! Kill the bug fender idea! This needs flatties!!!!!
Use some 90s Polaris snowmobile hood latches... they are rubber and kinda similar to old school jeep latches... no they are not the same but I do think they would look pretty neat
Awesome Iâll look into it!!
Don't worry about video perfection, either. You're telling the story, showing the work and thinking out loud. People are getting more from your videos than you think. Keep it up. Great project!
Thanks Bruce I appreciate that!
I remember and old episode of 4x4 where they made some willys looking fenders by making frames out of some like 1/2â round tube and then welded sheetmetal across the tops. Looked old school cool and you can make them to whatever size you wanted really easily/affordably.
This is gotta be the coolest thing Iâve seen in a long time. Canât wait to see this finished. Subscribed
Awesome! Thanks!
Perfection is the enemy of good enough. Keep it up, awesome project
The A-Pillar to the Window by Mirror having plate gussets or wings added will help strengthen the hinges and flex on your windshield frame. The gussets will help transfer forces like the wind from the frame down to the Chasis. Right now the Hinges and the seat the frame rests on are its only supports, the hinges will probably see a tremendous amount of force on them when catching speed and want to pull up on the hood material like a ripping effect. Having Gussets that go the full width of the hinge at the windshield frame will provide more structural support. I'm not an engineer but I'm the draftsman for a steel fabricator so I draw things for structural support all the time.
Some one suggested welding 1/4 " round stock along the edges of the hood to help it hold it's shape. Prowler type fenders sound like a good idea too.
That's correct. You have to open it up and hammer it over the sheet metal. Works GREAT!
So glad you are feeling better. As always you do awesome work. Great to see a video from you again.
The jevette is coming together (looking good) glad to see you back in the shop, hope you get to feeling better/yourself. Just keep on doing your thing.đ€đ€
Hell yea man, making good progress. Cant wait to see it done.
And I concur with the prowler style fenders up front.
Not only do you do great work with the hydro dipping but youâre an entertainers well. Love the antics. Leave the windshield frame as is. Itâs not that noticeable. As far as painting it. I would Raptor line the whole body. It will cover a lot of the imperfections. Itâs available in numerous colors.
its amazing to see all the revisions and vet to follow along over the last year or so. GI should get very lik grief: they show all the worts and second guessing that most hide. very proud to see the grace coming out from all that effort and learning curve. keep going your on the right track with channel and keep dipping.
You are doing great brother. Just get better and please don't push yourself to hard. Praying for you.
I appreciate that Tom, thanks!
This is probably the best project I've seen on CZcams
Thanks man!!
It's a cool and unique project and you're learning a LOT. Keep rockin Preston!
Thanks man!!
Have you ever considered using those suction cups that glass installers use to hold onto while hydro dipping ?
I had the same thoughts đđ»đđ„
Those take up way more space for the film to displace than his fingertips at the end of a product!
@@GreaseMonkeyVIP Not if attached to the back where there is no print being added .
Last time I used one it failed, Iâm sure that was just a fluke but since then I havnt wanted to haha
@@GARAGEIdiotS the air under the suction cup exands under heat and you loose suction because the gas expands.
As long as you are dipping in warm water suction cups won't be ideal or need more vacuum
With the doors on, it kinda reminds me of the old hummer. Glad you're getting better!
This is BadAss man
I love watching the progress of the this I can't wait to see this one finished
Thanks Dwayne!!
Keep plugging away and we'll keep watching.
welding steel rod to the edge of the hood might help strengthen it. well make it less floppy
Great idea!!
@@GARAGEIdiotS Slice-notch some small dia. pipe down the pipe and butt weld the one edge of the "notch" to the hood at whatever angle you determine looks the best, it will round the sharp edge on the hood in and provide the rigidity you're looking for. Best example of what i'm referring too (on a larger scale- easier to see- catch the drift) would be how we used to do old truck beds etc..... which i'm sure there are many vids on youtube explaining such if you don't already know what i'm talking about. :)
I think you should use 3/8 rod the length of the hood to stiffen it up. How about a leather strap anchored to the sides of the grill and over the hood to hold it down. Old school style.
Ohhh great thinking!
Hey good to have you backđ I like no fenders at all. Tons of rat rods just use their cab and ditch the rest. Looks awesome
Looking really good bud I've watch this build progress so much. Your. Doing some amazing work. Thanks for the great footage.
Thank you so much!
I think your videos are some of the best on CZcams! Keep them coming!! The Jeep is looking great!
Thank you!!! That means a lot!
Right before you said prowler fender, that's what I was thinking.
Haha awesome
Very cool man ! I went the opposite direction once and built a 91 K5 Camaro RS. I miss it
Great vids. Love this series on this project.
Thank you!
When I suggested the 'bug fenders'I was picturing cutting the lights off and extending the back of the bottom like the fenders on the Willy's pick-up to fill the lower triangle so your windshield wasn't coated everytime you hit a puddle.
Got it! Thanks man!
First video Iâve watched. Subbed!!!! As amateur video work goes....this was soooo entertaining!!! Loved the vlog, time lapse, and long shot sections. Music was awesome. Everything was well paced.
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that!!! Thanks for watching man!
Fender idea.... Check out the front fenders on the Monster truck Son-uva Digger. I know it sounds weird but I think that shape works well.
Love the project! đșđž
đđ Looking good, I think all my advice is that I've given you before, but here we go...
WINDSHIELD: Yes, bump out the sides with some square stock tubing. đđ
HOOD: use that same square stock, I recommend for the windshield for struts between the front grill and the firewall along the edge of the hood, this will not only add strength to supporting the grill, but it will give you a place to add your hood latches and also a place to attach some custom inner front fenders, "you know to close off all that you want to hide". As for the hood latches you don't have a fender to attached the latch to that's another reason I recommend the square tubing, for a place to mount the latch, instead of hood latches I recommend you use the older windshield latches instead of hood latches, due to the angle you will have to use to attach to the square tubing. Here is a link for the windshield latches I'm talking about, note the end mounts at a 90° instead of straight. đđ images.app.goo.gl/ckqSAQ4ZvA3iqXih7
You could also probably get away with using a rubber latch.
FENDERS: fenders yes Prowler style, I don't know if I'm actually said the word "Prowler" but yes that's Style, however I wouldn't copy Prowler design and have it round with the tire only copy how it attaches, again I would use some Diamond tread Jeep style fenders, round ones mounted to the body on the back, angled flat ones on the front mounted up Prowler Style. đđ
EXHAUST: like I believe I said in the previous video, I would run dual exhaust with tips running out underneath the rear round tail lights through the body and put trim rings around them to match the tail lights. đđ
Goodness gracious! Now that is the type of feed back Iâm talking about!!! I read all of that! Love the square tube idea from tub to grill, Iâll experiment with the windshield! Thanks!!
Floating trailer fenders on the front? Like an open wheel car.
Old style jeep latches is s great idea... also either prowler style fenders or none at all !
I think those small chrome mirrors would look nice đđ»
Keep on going.... Bro..... This beast is going to get perfect.... Automatically..... When it gets finished......
Thank you!!
Hey dude hang in there and keep cool
You are doing what others can't. I like it.
Thanks Gary!
Leather belts cut in half for your hood latch or paddle lock hinges the builds are looking great keep it up thank you
G'day Kevin here from Australia.
Your doing a great job I for one appreciate all your work.
â Peace man
Thanks Kevin!!
Just do the bare min to get the jeep running so you can enjoy it ! its about time we had Preston playing with toys video instead of working his ass off 24/7 !!! you have so much fun in the burnout pit !!!!
Great to see you again
Why thank you sir
On the issues of fenders, unless nandate, other than wanting them- go without. If you do; here's a sick idea I have been storing away for a build; since you want a military look, mount like some trailer fenders or like some for a telehandler... the good part is; use schoolbus fender side marker lights as blinkers and mount like small motorcycle headlights as the low/hi beams and use the jeeps headlights as hibeam only. Something like that.
nandate... I meant mandated...lol
I'm about to do something similar but I'm using an 85 Long bed S10 frame. The reason I'm using the s-10 frame is it was given to me, you can't beat free, I'm putting an LS in mine also.
looking sick - rubber hood catches or low profile push button hood latches would be cool. Bail on those bug fenders lol if you cant leave it open wheel than check out trailer fenders. They are more squared off and will match the body lines of the jeep and at least for the rear tires would be a pretty easy fitment but again if possible leave that thing fenderless and just panel in around the front wheels
Okay got it!! Thanks man!!
Awesome looking jeep hot rod
Preston man body work is a slow pain full task that is never finished to satisfaction, no matter how hard you try you will always see something that not just right. Ask me how I know lol. the jeep/vette is looking better every time I see it.
Haha I could imagine! Thanks man!
On the back of the hood yes I would just bring a little support down from where it stops.. To keep the hood down.. I think you have to go with some kind of jeep wrangler hood latch.. Not saying a certain year latch.. It just must be a wrangler latch..You are spot on with that idea....
Everyone gets sick don't worry about it.. I think it is really starting to come together.. I know you don't mean to sound like you don't care.. I do the same thing you do at times witch is to over think things at times.. And you are just trying not to do that so much on every inch of the Jeep.. You have put so much fabrication into you will not get it perfect.. But for the very most part you are the only one that sees them that much because you know where them spots are..Your doing a great job.. Maybe blend the windshield frame into the body line a bit.. But if you doubt for some reason not to then don't and just move on.. When it's all painted same color somethings will not even be seen.. Keep up the great work.....
Weld a piece of round rod 1/4" to the outside edges of the hood. Will add lots of rigidity and give it a finished look.
Wonderful job as always.
The independent fender idea is awesome. For hood latches the rubber ones might be the best option that wouldn't look too different from the originals and not be outlandishly expensive.
The carbon look parts for Medusa look so good, only high quality molded dry carbon would look better.
Keep up the awesome work
Thank you sir!
A flat edge 11/2â - 2â stuck out on the hood, with perhaps a fold at the firewall end for strength? With a short fender following the chassis rail on the left side and jink it around the pipe on the right with heat shielding.
I would do open flat Jeep fenders to help protect the motor and its sensitive sensors. As far as bodywork or paint goes I would rhino line the whole thing in white, there's so many benefits lol white hides dents and liner hides highs and lows well. First video I've watched man, I like it keep up the good work the Jeevette looks awesome!!
Triangulate the windshield frame.
As for the front fenders, think of them like the front wheel of a motorcycle that has the fender visually connected to the wheel.
Got to finish those edges on the hood. Something. Looking great đ
Looking good. The jeep latches would look good and probably be the cheapest and ezest way to latch the hood. I personally think the jeep is going to turn out awesome in the end! U could always put diamond plate or something across the sides to hide the imperfections of the corner panels.
Ah good thinking!!
Triangle the windshield post and do bug fenders! đđ
bug fenders, bigger wheels, lower profile tires, running boards tying it all together. Would look insane.
Anyways it's yours so build it how you want. Love lowered jeeps. It's a really rarely done thing. Also subbed.
Awesome! Thank you!! Weâll see what I can get done
I think the windshield looks fine as is and Iâd try to fix all that you can now no reason to double or triple your work down the road every build takes time so make it as nice as you want it you donât learn by skipping steps đ€đ»
Such a cool ride.. diggin your channel.
Thanks Ricky!
Seat belt latch the hood. I saw it on an old pickup tail gate. It looks sharp. The jeep is really cool.
This is gonna look like a full scale RC car when it's done
Haha yea
You are going to want to triangulate the windshield from the corner to the top because the amount of wind force at speed is going to bend it. You should support the bottom a lot as well.
Keep the Jeep looking like a Jeep. Put wide flat wheel fenders for all four wheels, and use sheet metal to make the door flush to the grill, then make a frame to support the side walls, as well as a frame for the hood.
Love the build, tube doors with Saddle bags would look sweet
That would be cool!
Thanks for sharing the video, really entertraining your content and i am looking forward to catch up with all the videos!!! liked! subbed and smashed that bell!!
keep up the nice work and share the kindness in 2020 :)
I think you should keep the crazy going and have the hood hinged in the front and put the latches next to doors on the side
Just stumbled upon your channel. This looks like a beast, can't wait to see more! (Prowler fenders, just my 2 cents)
Thanks!!!
Cut two leather belts to use as straps for the hood
Awesome idea!!
Nice Jeep sir keep it up Don't surrender
Thanks man! Check out the newer videos! Itâs painted!
when you use tape, paint the part that you are cutting off. its harder to screw it up that way
That is bad ass. Would love to see it when itâs done.
Itâs almost there!
Close that open area of the window support will sheet steel. Then just use bondo and body filler the sand and prime it
Nice work!!
Thanks man!
I like the prowler fender idea...if u can find agressive looking headlights i would try them too
Yes , man ! Brazil
A handful of hot glue sticks is a very quick method for pulling dents! Like the bug fender idea, would work well with a quarter of the bug hood but maybe to much to tackle before respray?
Excellent idea!
Add the triangle on the windshield and No bug fenders hahaha love your vids
Haha okay thanks!!
The jeep is turning out awesome cool to watch it progress but when it comes to the fenders i think you're going to have to do the good old trial and error method to see what if any will flow with the rest of the body
Do a little kick plate welded to grill just enough to mount hood latches on each side..
Hood latches go either og pin lock style or do aero style with flip up latches, easy solid and less noise.
Be cool no fenders and weld the windsceen in place less hassles and flow it into the body it looks awesome for what your working with just have fun with the build and everyone watching will like the finished product
Jeep hood latches are perfect
Okay!
I would use the original Jeep hood hinges. Another great video đđđšđ±
Here in Philippines that thing is Called Tamiya Owner type jeep Otj for short...yeahđ
Awesome! You should also check Tamiya Jeeps from the Philippines...
" Fenders... Not gonna worry about that right now... Not even gonna talk about that."
Talks about fenders for 2 and a half minutes... Meth is a hellova drug!
Keep it fenderless it looks good as is, hood latch wise you could do a jeep latch attached to a grill support bar running from grill to firewall following the bottom of the hood
Okay great thinking! Thanks!
Bug fenders might work.
Otherwise no fenders and leather belt straps as latches, maybe 2 short or one long across the hood.
The rear needs some sturdy squarish fenders you can sit down on.
Top job đ
Thanks Peter!
With a little cutting and blending the bug fenders would look amazing and simply right for the build
I donât think the round looks good with the boxy
@@GARAGEIdiotS but u have already proven your blending ability by blending the Jeep with the Vette. I think u could blend the boxy with the curve, and make it look good in the end. Just my opinion
No finders front and back, use old-school jeep hood latch, and yes fill in lower sides of the window by the mirrors. Just my thoughts, lol
Okay roger that! Thanks!
I think if you use the Bug fenders, you should rotate them towards the front of the vehicle (so what used to be the headlights are pointed maybe 4-5 feet out) then cut off the headlight portion and re-shape it. However that being said, they'd be the ONLY rounded parts on this thing. So maybe a flat fender is more appropriate?
Keep jeep! Use the flat fenders and rubber hood latches. It's lookin sweet brother!
Awesome! Thanks man!
Still think you should do front fenders the same as a caterham. Build stay off wishbone and small wrap around fender
