How to remove a security ink tag or clothing anti-theft magnet beeper...

  • Here I show one way to remove a security ink tag from clothes if you find it easier than taking it into the store to be removed. By far the easiest way to do this is like the shops do and put a very strong magnet like a rare earth or neodymium magnet from a hard drive (not a normal fridge magnet) up against the 'bump' on the tag but not everyone has these laying around at home. In the following video I use some sharp side cutters but you can also use a heated knife blade and cut or melt the plastic off etc. Some people use a lighter to melt the spring and bearing holder out but I find this messy and very smelly (fumes). Tip: do this outside or in a sink and wear old clothes etc just incase you accidentally break the ink capsules whilst attempting this...

Thank you! I bought some things from Kohl’s online for my husband a few weeks ago. It was a store pickup, and they brought my items out to my car for me. We got home, and realized one of the shirts had a security tag on it just like this one. I was planning on taking it back in, but ended up putting the shirt in the closet then forgetting about it. Today I was cleaning, and found it. I don’t feel like driving to the other side of town, so I search “how to remove security tag from clothes”. I found your video. I raided my husband’s workshop for the tools I needed. Took me all of 5 minutes, and the tag is off! Thanks for sharing!

mine does not have a cup, it has a three prong metal piece holding the spike. no ball bearings. Didn't work. Revised: thank you. I didn't take enought of the plastic head off to get to the center. what gripes me, is that I ordered these ONLINE and they arrived with the tag. I live an hour away from the closest store. Thank you again for sharing.

I just literally took a Kitchen knife and chopped through the lump lol . Took like 5 minutes of non stop slicing to fully cut through but it worked. All the insides just fell out like in this video and was just able to slide the needle out.

Used a serrated kitchen knife to cut the tip off. Used a pocket knife to wedge the little metal piece out and the ball bearings fell right out. THANK YOU! Ordered something online without the retailer local. Did not want to have to send it back over the ink tag. Took a minute to saw the plastic tip off because I was scared to apply to much pressure on the pin but otherwise took less than five minutes.

Not going back to the store to have them remove it, especially now, so I'm going to try this out tomorrow. I'll update with my results. Thanks!

Timeless tutorial. Why did a quarter zip jacket have two security tags on it while marked for clearance at $35? Don't ask me, I don't know. What I do know is that this tutorial saved me a hefty round trip to have it removed from where I bought it. Cheers.

My 1st idea was to place the pants in the freezer over night, then pry the button off. My 2nd thought was, bank robbers could use dry ice to freeze the big bag of stolen money prior to opening the bag. My thinking is that this could defeat the the dye or at least contain it so the dye doesn't make as big if a mess. My 3rd thought was its very late and I'm half awake rn. 😆 good night all
