  • GE Profile Washer PTW605 - Loud Buzzing/Hum During Agitation
    It's not possible to try a machine before buying, so you may not know of these issues until it's too late or impossible to take it back or exchange it. If your washer is in a basement away from everything else in the house, it will probably be fine, but if your washer can't be closed off by a door, the noise this washer makes may be very disruptive and you may want to choose a different brand or machine.

    That loud hum is the motor, it's normal for it to make that noise, and if you so badly want a quiet washer, get an LG front loader and call it a day.

    Top load high efficiency washers are ment to use less water. But it still gets cleaned so don’t worry, unless there’s something wrong with it-
    (Edit: agitators wash clothes roughly if they’re super dirty. Impeller washes them gently but still makes your clothes clean only if you only get them normally dirty instead of super)

    Nice demo of this machine showing everything so people could see for themselves. I have a top loader but it's a speed queen and it never has any of these issues. I also have a front loader never had a problem with mold or smell. You have to keep the door open and clean and no problems.

    Thank you for posting this video. People like me, doing washing machine "research," greatly appreciate these videos. I'm so sorry you're not happy with your new washer. That would be a HUGE disappointment. It doesn't seem fair that you're stuck with a washer you don't like. UGH! is right!! As a service tech this sounds normal for a belt driven top loader. A higher model would be direct drive and is a bit quieter. The whirlpool/ maytags are built very similarly and get the same complaints also about the ahirt not going under common for new top loaders with low water level. This is why i always buy and recommend front loaders. They wash better most are direct drive and will also last longer.

      I've owned both top and front Load, my recent purchase of earlier Maytag 2002 ( before whirlpool bought out Maytag ) is the best washing machine I've owned a lot quieter than the one in this video, the only negative is it's healthy use of water, I'm fortunate it has a half fill option.

  • @ShinDaBean
    @ShinDaBean Před 9 měsíci +4

    I have the same one without the agitator. It's meant to absorb those bangs, it'll do that on most loads to get everything to the side which balances it. Trust me, on medium size loads is not as loud as that on spins. Those weird sputtering noises on the final spin are perfectly normal when it's off balance, but it has very good suspension so it won't go off balance unless you have like 20 pounds on just on side of the washer, but it'll readjust if it really needs to. It's a really good washer that gets everything pretty dry.

    I have the GE Profile washer, the one they sell with Alexa built in, and it isn't that noisy it is actually pretty quiet. When it is actually washing you can't hear it at all. The water falling into the tub is the loudest part and that is just the sound of water running. It could be better insulated for sound than this one, but the only way we know its even done is when the Alexa in the living room tells us. The dryer is actually a little louder than the Washer. Something is definitely up with this one

  • @sfchris
    @sfchris Před 9 měsíci +2

    Wow, that is loud. I just bought a GE GTW585BSVWS (not Profile) which seems to have nearly the same features and it is probably 1/4th as loud! Not super quiet but tolerable. Maybe GE is listening to the bad reviews. The biggest problem with these GE washers seems to be getting off balance with large or waterlogged items. The basket is like a spinning top and will get a huge wobble going if off balance. The automated balancing attempt by the washer can add 15-30 minutes to the whole cycle as it fills and drains trying to move the clothes and it may never get balanced in the end.

  • @marcusmarkus3266
    @marcusmarkus3266 Před 7 měsíci

    I have one of the newer GE top loaders as well. It's not that loud but does make noise while washing. The pole agitator is a waste on this model. It doesn't pull the clothes down to the lower wash plate fins. They make a model with the dual agitator which will pull the clothing to the bottom by promoting a good rollover.

    Your comment is correct. I am extensively researching before I buy for that exact reason. I'm having to use another person's washer before I decide to fix the one I have or get a new one. I'm not encouraged by the inventory in any regular top load brands, for all of which I did a deep dive watching CZcams videos (even commercial grade units including Speed Queen). Most just spin rinse anymore, and you can't do anything about it! But thankfully, it appears GE units do a fill rinse - and GE has the Deep Rinse option, so try that. GE's GTW 4.5 cubic units agitate much better and aren't nearly as loud. By way of further comment, Frigidaire FFTW4120SW agitates the same strange way but isn't nearly as loud. Wow. Glad I didn't consider GE Profile units.

    So the buzz you hear is "normal" in the sense that that's what a single-speed, non-inverter drive motor sounds like. When you see those stickers on LG washers that say "Inverter Direct Drive", it's actually not just marketing BS.. it means they use a variable frequency drive that energizes the poles of the motor in succession with feedback from a hall effect sensor. GE uses this on their front loaders, but since top loaders are purchased by people who will buy literally anything that isn't a front loader (despite the fact that front loaders wash better, balance better, spin better, and are better built) most manufacturers just use the ancient single speed motors. But hey, it's got a (fake) agitator! Oblivious consumers gobble these buzz-box top loaders up, especially the Whirlpoop ones, they're built extra-flimsy and people just buy them and put up with them, they figure that's just how washers are. lmao

    • @Mapmaker1559
      @Mapmaker1559 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I grew up with an agitator top-loader, and I can say it beat a front-loader 100x any day of the week. My family's successor to the top-loader was a 2013 Whirlpool front-loader, and it was one of the worst washing machines ever built. It never used enough water, I always found myself having to add water after the fact. And I can say from experience that to say by default front-loaders balance and spin better than top-loaders is objectively and completely false. In our Whirlpool front-loader, unless you were washing loads less than a pound or two in weight, the "balance cycle" would often take longer than the spin cycle itself. Sometimes the washing machine would take over half an hour just to balance the load for _one_ spin. It was terrible, an embarrassment, and a complete waste of time. We finally gave up and switched over to an LG impeller top-loader, and it washes a thousand times better. Never going back to a front-loader. Having experience with both top- and front-loaders, I can say I absolutely hate the latter.

    I have the same thing but with no agitator. These washers are stupid. They don’t clean when it has a good load. The cloths on top stay still and the bottom only moves. And sometime the washer water level is either very low or very high level. Also when they are on rise it fill almost full takes maybe 5 minutes or longer to fill. Then rinse the cloths for 30 seconds then drain. Waste of water.

      @lynne3327  Před 8 měsíci +1

      After having it a few months, I've settled on doing the "hold deep fill for 3 seconds" to get the water to fill all the way to the top as a way to make sure the clothes all go underwater at some point. This also deadens the noise a little and the clothes do seem to get clean. But if we didn't live where it rains a lot and if we weren't on a well with unlimited water, I wouldn't feel right about using so much water. It's a lot of water being used! Sometimes it gets out of balance and it fills up the tub a couple more times to get the clothes unbalanced.

      We also can close the door to the laundry room, but it would be very loud if the machine was in the kitchen or bedroom with us like I've seen in some houses. So I guess it depends if you can get around the shortcomings. It's a beautiful machine visually which is why I chose it and we were able to get around the shortcomings here with the "fill to top" and by closing the door to the laundry room and choosing when to do laundry not during tv watching, etc. If you decide on something else, I'd be interested to hear what you've found. This machine is at my Dad's house, but I will be buying something at my house too at some point.

      The small appliance store where we bought it doesn't take returns or exchanges even if we notified them within 24 hours, so we had to keep it. We should have asked ahead of time, but we've bought so many other appliances there, it didn't seem like we needed to ask. At least now that I've discovered the deep fill "hold 3 seconds until it beeps" trick, now at least all of the clothes go under water, but it wastes so much water because it fills to the top even if I have only a small load. The two choices are "not enough water to cover the clothes" or "way too much water". There's no way to set the load size to match the amount of water like on older washers.

    Here’s a GE front loader washer story for yah… so my washer’s drain pump quit working and upon further investigation the four ultra-cheap plastic suspension rods broke during an unbalanced load. So I went online to figure out how much it would cost to repair it rather than replace it. $100 for the drain pump and $67 per cheap plastic rod. So I could spend $368 dollars for parts and hope I can install them myself or buy a brand new washer for $600. This is absolute thievery and price gouging and why our society would rather dispose of and replace broken things rather than repair them. So we went with a basic LG front loader and will never purchase another GE. Do not buy a top loader unless it’s a speed Queen and even then it’s probably more economical to just buy an LG frontloader. We will see how this washer holds up but I can tell you that nobody in the family is allowed to wash comforters or any other super bulky items that will likely lead to an unbalanced load during the spin cycle. Buy a front loader and don’t over load it and keep the door open after use until the grommet dries completely.
