The most impressive thing about Renee is that she never took acting lessons or went to drama school. She just uses her own human empathy to find the emotional core of a character instead.

That is not true - Renée got interested in acting in high school while working on the drama club. She also took an acting class at the University of Texas (Austin), where she began looking towards acting as a career. After graduation, she wanted to continue acting, but Hollywood is a tough town to break into, so Renée decided to stay in Texas, and auditioned for roles around Houston, where she managed to grab roles in such films as Reality Bites (1994) and Empire Records (1995).

She give the essence of Judy Garland without being an exact copy, much like Martin Landau when he played Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton’s Ed Wood.
Hollywood punished her for taking a break and blending into the public. And the public punished her for doing plastic surgery and wanting to be Hollywood. I’m glad she won.

@@stephanozerillo9601 uhm because Olivia is British so the BAFTA was hers even before the nomination was released. With the Golden Globes, Olivia won Comedy while Glenn won Drama. I don't know, I hope I'm right. I love Reneé as much as the next person but ScarJo must win this one.

Yeah, I agree. And with Tom, I truly think his stardom overshadowed his acting ability which is why he always gets snubbed. The dude, I feel, is a totally under rated actor. His performance in Interview with the Vampire didn't even get an oscar nomination. So many people didn't believe he could even pull that role off, even the author herself. And he impressed EVERYONE!

DearAlly it’s funny because i live in Houston and my cousin lives in Katy which is only 20 miles away and I’ve never heard anyone in Katy have they strong of an accent. But she was raised in a much more dense population because Katy is huge now. They opened up this huge outdoor shopping mall with fendi, Gucci, true religion, so its booming

Tom Cruise always looks after his costars. It's the little things. Kristen Dunst said he still sends her a cake every year on Christmas or something and they acted like over 20 years ago. Even Henry Cavill said on Graham Norton that Cruise sent him a cake on his birthday
She is a phenomenal actress. I was a fan ever since her captivating and emotive performance in Jerry Maguire. She has turned in stunning performances in so many films, and I love her less commercial projects like Nurse Betty. The recognition is well-deserved and people need to be kinder to her. Phenomenal performance and excellent acceptance speech. It is nice to see Ms. Zellweger back making movies and giving her usual terrific performances. With this film, she took a tremendous risk, because there are so many ways in which it could have gone wrong. But, talent and hard work paid off, and it is nice to see that rewarded! She also looked very beautiful.
Highly deserved her uncanny portrayal of Judy Garland is certainly this year's best, the way she picked by Garland's distinctive performing style (see By Myself) and of course her voice is unbelievable. Renne for 2nd Oscar

@Diego Pisfil I don't think so one bit. Saorise's performance was great but her character wasn't as memorable and intense/complex in comparison to the other nominees in her category. Even Florence Pugh's performance in Little Women overshadows Saorise's. Both are equally great, but Florence just has a more dynamic screen presence.
Saoirse Ronan should not even be nominated for an Oscar. Awkwafina should be nominated instead of her.

@@robbyten100 yes, I find they downplay Judy. Even Renee's Judy comments are skimpy. She barely mentioned her at Golden Globes. I don't think these people realize how much Judy touched the hearts and souls of those who loved her. I use to sing along with her records as a preteen and try to sound like Judy. Her voice, heart, and talent was unique. Renee did as good of a job as one could playing such a rare individual. The script was horrendous. The singing while amazing was not Judy. All and all Renee gave it 100%
