If he did not have the resume he has the Clippers would have let him go by now. They are just looking to get 1 more "resume" year out of him even if they have to pay him for 2 "ghost" years. Umm, the Olympic basketball tournament is a maximum of 6 games in 15 days. At least 2 of those games will be virtual walk overs. There is no travel between games. Even the best players will be playing less than 30 minutes per game. It’s not exactly a burden.
Maybe they simply made the decision to get a role player based on what they’d seen from the team so far? Or maybe the replacement was more of a coach’s decision while the original selections came from higher up Olympics people.
Leonard is an all-defense player, thats why they replaced him with white. Leonard is a scorer on offense but his role in team USA was defending well on defense. They are more dependent on the defensive side because they have enough pure scoring, so they went for white. Way better team building
Toward the end of the Clippers season, Kawhi Leonard looked like he was returning to form. Arguably, even more exciting to watch than the Raptors season. And then his body failed him. I get it. Injuries, wear and tear, being in the NBA for 10+ years. I just want to see Kawhi play at that level to a WCF or Finals before he retires. This act is getting old.
