Starting as a happy accident of solo singer/songwriters getting together for a one-time-only performance at a tiny guitar shop, The Wailin’ Jennys have grown over the years into one of today’s most beloved international folk acts. Founding members Ruth Moody and Nicky Mehta along with New York-based Heather Masse continue to create some of the most exciting music on the folk-roots scene. The trio stopped by War Memorial Auditorium’s historic Attic Lounge to play some songs off of their most recent album, “Fifteen”, and discuss everything from bringing their music to the US to keeping folk music relevant in world where pop rules the charts. - Hudba
Praise the Lord for the gift of music.
Keep on wailin'!
Here I am a grown man, listening to Wildflowers with tears rolling down my cheeks, listening to what sounds like the voices of angels. The vocals are flawless and the harmonies are sublime.
I am an old man and I feel the same. Listening to the WJ since they exist still gives me goosebumps.
When tears run, i know im immersed in time and space where my soul climbes to the heavens
@@mikefleckenstein8547 That's a poetic comment!
@@juerg5662 Couldn't agree more!
I'm crying as I type this...I'm with you.
after a week in construction in the rain , your voices are sonic morphine thanks🖐️
Every time they hit the three-part harmony, all the hairs on my body stand up. Love the Jennys.
Yes, but where would they be without the anonymous violinist who accompanies them everywhere (no mention of him in the intro)?
@@brian.josephson That's Rich Moody, Ruth's brother.
or...as we call it on the islands: chickenskin!
I'm a huge fan of the Jenny's!!! These are three extremely talented women!!!
This is why I'm here. So beautiful.
This music is rooted in the earth yet soars to heaven.
nicely said!
There’s something indescribable about the magic these musical mistresses create..they fill my soul & remind me of the essence of who I am.
yes
I gave up music after seconf child was getting a bit older... kinda gettinf back into it.. and crafting! Thanks for your lovely voices and energy!!
Everyone knows their part and doesn’t over play it. The balance is excellent.
These guys have had the number two spot next to Allison Krauss in my music rotation over this last crazy year. Just something healing about their harmonies.
i assume that pair of top positions have helped you to cope with some stuff.
These gals are absolutely wonderful! Their talent and beautiful voices with great performances makes my day. They have so much to give the world in their music. Thank you for posting this!
Seriously, the cover of Wildflowers brings tears to my eyes. They make it so mellon collie, but still a happy song. It gets me every damn time!
Nice to know that traditional music is alive and well, outstanding 👍
This is an original sound, but based on old, old techniques and harmonies. It's just lovely, powerful without being overbearing.
This music is timeless. My father would have loved it, his father, his father...well you get the meaning.
Mine too, & my Aunty ……….. ❤
God I love these musicians. They capture a moment in time when there was less tech and more heart. Perfect!!! 🌟🌟🌟
Perfect description!
I just saw them live a few days ago! Their voices are SO heavenly live! Far more so than their recordings! If y'all have a chance to see them live, I highly recommend it! I love how this video features my father's favorite song they performed (Glory Bound) and mine (Wildflowers)!
Here from mark knopfler. What a treat & a great find. Thanks for being amazing.
Beautiful!! Brought tears to my eyes. I love The Wailin' Jennys.
This is perfection. Beautiful voices... please make a new album
Absolutely brilliant harmonies, song choice, love the Jenny's music! In an intelligent world, all of the homogenized crap that passes for popular music these days would be relegated to obscurity and the world would worship genuine music like this made by real musicians playing real acoustic instruments instead of assembly line Pro Tools "product".
Sublime. Thank you, Jennies, for your wondrous music.
A genre of music I wouldn't normally listen to, but yet, it struck straight to the heart of my being!
this is what adding things to your brain feels like. and the brain, as the addage goes, once stretched to accomodate a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.
I had to pause the video when wildflowers started.... I'm not sure that I'm ready for what I'm about to hear. Have you ever had that feeling of "ohh, i love that thing so much that I wish I could see it again for the first time!" that's where I am. I know this is about to be the first of billlions of times I watch this. let's go
Love this song. Kudos to Adam in the back playing Mandolin, always making everything sound great from behind.
This never gets old.
Breathtaking sound, gorgeous vocals/harmonies, and passionate musicianship - heavenly!!!!!! LOVE the W.J.'s!!!
Also look up Midnight Skyracer
All three of them with their eyes closed much of the time. Truly feeling it.
Words cannot express the joy & happiness their music brings to my heart ✨
The harmonies , the voices!!
Love these three. Their "Long Time Traveller" is my favorite.
Oh, yes, mine too. What a heart swelling song!
A real delight - I’m a big STAVES fan and there are similarities which lead me here! I’ll be listening more!
Thank you for championing the effort that it takes to raise children. I can never get enough listening to your beautiful voices. God bless
Maybe, if we are lucky, they will be touring as the Wailin' Jennies Family Show Band... and vegan buffet.
There are very few covers that rival the original. This version of Wildflowers is one of those that is as good, if not better than the original
This touches me every time i hear it.
I just found out about them through my Spotify weekly playlist and i'm just so happy! God, their voices together are heavenly, like, the harmony always takes my breath away, i swear, finding this group made my week. The vibes in every song is just **chef's kiss** amazing. I'm legit in love ❤️
Am I the only one whose heart aches for home when he here's these Angels?
I came here for that purpose
I got autographs from all of them on the poster for the 40th anniversary of a Prairie Home Companion and hung it in my office for years.
Where is the poster now?
All praise to the Jennys and Cara Luft and Annabelle Chvostek, all wonderful musicians.
Your voices always take me back to The Parting Glass and my Grandpa's funeral. So beautiful to celebrate a life, but so bittersweet and sad...it brings a grown man to tears every time.
Omg just discovered them. Amazing!!!!! I'm in love!
Blue grass magic right here folks.!
Sweet Thank You for the good music and voices
Gorgeous. Music that lifts you up. ❤
"Hallelujah:" one of the most beautiful and international words ever spoken or sung.
Wow! I heard One Voice by accident but could not listening to your music and beautiful harmonies. You are amazing! Keep the music going....
3 lovely talented women, Love the Jennys
Brillant, pure talent. They should perform in Europe, once this crisis is over. Greetings from Germany.
Good Lord those harmonies are have a special sad magic in them.
The perfect group. Can't keep my ears or eyes away from them.
The harmony on Wildflowers gives me goosebumps
We saw them at the Big Top in Bayfield, WI six years ago and they are as good in person as they are in their recordings.
such an amazing sound. I can't believe I had not heard of these wonderful musicians before. I am a life long fan of country and folk music. heading off to find their albums... BRAVO!!
I heard Prairie Town on Pandora and fell in love with them......they sing like angels.
I also appreciate how talented they are, everything they do is polished and perfect....vocally and instrumentality.
What a beautiful showcase of the power and beauty of this American band. Thank you
well no.... They are Canadian :-) with a lot of power and beauty
Last time I checked Canada was Located in North America
What a pleasure to listen to such lovely, soaring voices that take me to a higher level of being!
Gorgeous song still. And I love hearing the backstory, how simply and unassumingly they started.
These women are awesome! Feels so good when a song of theirs comes on my Pandora.
Thank you all for sharing your beautiful voices with the world, you sound like angels, well that’s if angels existed and they had beautiful voices. Take care.
I hope you become the overnight wonders 15 years in the making…and you’re even better than that! Good luck singing and raising children…I don’t know which is more difficult!
A perfectly soulful performance of a perfect arrangement of a perfect song. Everything and everyone shines...
You guys are amazing! I bought one of your albums and I listened to it more times than I can count. Your music is fun, soothing, meaningful, and inspiring. I don't know if you all believe in God or not, but some of your songs I sing in worship the creator of the universe and whom I believe gave you angelic voices. In my journey in life and my wandering spirit, I really relate to many of your songs. Your music has been a huge blessing to my life. Now I just have to decide which album I am going to buy next. God bless you!
for what it's worth, "gifts" like these tend to not come for free.
@@tracyavent-costanza346 I have bought more of their albums since then. Hope to buy all of them, and hope they keep making more great music!
What a lovely sound
Absolutely spectacular.
These women are worth the whole world. May they walk with Angels 🥰
I love this band. I have seems them three times. Once in Missoula and twice in Helena, Montana.
They would be great at Planet bluegrass for Folk Festival in Lyons Colorado. Covid cancel this year's shows but there's always next year! You girls are awesome!
Perfect, that's all my heart can say, loved it all, voices, harmony , Instrumental sound. All of it.
They are engaging. It's too bad commercial country stations aren't open to this kind of thing because it's clear that people would want to hear it. These girls could work steadily on the Gulf Coast circuit. We have a few groups like this.
this really isn't country, it's follk. the song apparently was written by tom petty (of rock and roll but with country roots). His version comes across a lot differently. the jennys pretty much made a major it out of it.
and the reference to aiofe o'donovan. when I first heard this interview I did not know who that was. she pronounces it "EEFE" (probably irish) and she is a music act to behold in her own right, also to be found on YT
Tom Petty wasn’t always as wild or Rock as some may think ❤
I am new to the Walin' Jennys but I loved their music making. Great harmonies and excellent instrumental playing. I will be listening to more of their music from now on.
otherworldly. these are the three most beautiful, saintly, just good looking god fearing girls who sing like angels. i hope my fiance, miss caroline jones, and i get to meet them some day. wow. i have been listening to this trio non stop since des moines, iowa, on my way out to visit my father. he died yesterday, but these not dixie chix have given me enormous comfort in what otherwise would have been unrelieved grief. no grief, just happiness with these gals.
Please don’t call them girls! They all have had babies and that is no small feat. A girl cannot have babies. Men need to acknowledge their adulthood.
Three beautiful ladies making a beautiful sound.
Wow these guys are amazing I really like their songs I've listened to a couple of them and I've liked them all Good job you guys😊
PS I swear to god every time I listen to the Jennys some one is cuttin onions somewhere ....or theres somthin in my eye!!
Same here.
Jenny's sound sets my heart free.
Your music has helped me more than I could ever use words to describe. Being from Nashville it's nice to see Legalslative Plaza in the beginning of this video. I grew up skating there in a time I miss greatly. ❤️
♥️🎶☀️
Wow! I've heard of this group but never listened before now. What an introduction to their amazing talents. Glad to hear some back story as well.
Also look up Midnight Skyracer
@@moppy157 ok thanks
Absolutely beautiful and soothing to hear; such harmony!
Ruth's blue eyes
Thumbs up for these excellent harmonies!
The Jenny's Wildflowers cover takes the cake!!! Tom is up in heaven tearin up at it!! I promise!
Thank you all for sharing your beautiful voices with the world; you sound like angles. God Bless you and your families. Take care.
Was gonna make a jab at the fact that he said angles, not angels, but he’s too right for me to make fun of it 😂
I should say thank you ladies and gents
Absolutely love this ladies! Special shout out to Ruth ;)
I saw them live once in MN at a college auditorium. Floored!
I absolutely love your harmony.Beautiful music!
What a great cover of wildflowers!!!!
beautiful, like a field of flowers
Beautiful
The harmonies are from another world and listening to these gals are akin to angelic. See you at the Birchmere on the 16th ;)
Really surprised to see these are just normal humans. I had always figured their music had to be created by some angelic beings. New fan...Pandora got me hooked.
Wonderful and beautiful harmonies..I’m grateful for this song...🥰
Ah great sound - good sound comes when the emotion of the artist (musician) is connected in the playing and singing - love it. The acoustic bass sounds really cool...and that mandolin and fiddle..brilliant..along with the vocal harmonies..just great folks....why not get the kids singing and playin too..
Amazing harmony ❤️
Exquisite 🌺🌺🌺
Absolute golden ~~~~
Wonderful group, wonderful video 💜
they are absolute magic
Yes yes and more yes. Love it.
That shines!
Love it, love it, love it! Sweet sound there ladies!
