    Thank you! Just fixed my toilet after watching the video, very helpful!

    Exactly the info I was looking for. Tonight my toilet was jetting water all over the place out of the top of the ballcock assembly so now I've got some ideas of what might have gone wrong!

      Looks like I have a combination of the split and two completely perished washers too. Absolutely would have missed the split if not for this video, thanks so much

    This helped me a lot and resolved the puzzle for me really well. The red washer is not the critical part, but making sure the ballcock washer is thick enough and no hole, grind down the water “hole” of there is any crack. Thanks again!

      Thank you, glad to help. I’m just waiting for the next piece to fail......

  • @christianclaregalbraith7509

    Thanks. My cap was on very tight and felt like I was going to break something. This showed that at least I was on the right track. Go it off in the end.

    Went to change the washer because it takes 15min for the cistern to fill, but the nut was locked solid. I was twisting the riser pipe so much I thought I better grab it at the float pivot, and naturally the pivot snaps off because it's brittle. Typically there is no inlet systems at my Bunnings so I had to make a temp steel bracket. What a PITA.

    Great hack on the little crack in the riser pipe. Would've missed it without your alert. Ground it down and all is good. Thank you.

    Good job. My Caroma Uniset cistern had the same crack on the inlet jet, and the ongoing hissing. A bit of sand paper took it down about 1.5mm and it seals perfectly.

    Hi Peter, thanks for the video, strange question but what model is your cistern? I have inherited the same one from the looks of it, and need to replace the lid as it has a whopping crack in the side. Hard to identify from looking at the tank, any ideas?

    • @peteypops
      @peteypops  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Ben
      The name on the lid is Caroma Trident, circa 2004..that’s the only info I have. Have fun trying to match a lid...might be as cheap to replace the whole lot as all the plastic surfaces, where water flows, will be scored or distorted and, probably, only just sealing against the washers after 15 years or more.

      @@peteypops thanks, I know I think that might end up being the case.

    Sorry to be dumb but how do you get the lid off the cistern? Do you just pull it off as I don’t want to break it

    • @peteypops
      @peteypops  Před 5 lety +1

      Not dumb at all, Rachel. The plastic lid can stick and need quite a bit of force to release it, especially after a long time undisturbed or if items have been placed on top. Use a broad edged screwdriver and ease under one side of the lid, then the other, then at the front,using a little twist each time. Repeat a few times. It doesn’t really matter if you crack the lip, just put some super glue in the crack and hold it together, without sticking your own fingers!

    Mine is doing the exact same problem but I have had a look but the ball cock washer and the red washer was really perished. The red washer had gone a different shape with air bubbles and the ball cock one has a hole in it. It is leaking a lot and needs to get it fixed

  • @cakeman8406
    @cakeman8406 Před 3 lety

    Hey Peter, have you got your inlet valve replaced

    • @peteypops
      @peteypops  Před 3 lety

      Amazingly, not yet! The cistern is still trickling along, just needs a jog every now and then to make it stop flushing, but that’s all. I’m spending all my time now up cycling furniture.

  • @cakeman8406
    @cakeman8406 Před 2 lety

    What type of cistern is that?

    • @peteypops
      @peteypops  Před 2 lety

      It’s an old Caroma, now no longer installed. Spares are still available but the plastic seatings do tend to become pitted and roughened.
