MGK absolutely switched genres, he was a rapper until kill shot then when a pop punk track on hitel diablo a rap album got more love than the rap he went all in with pop punk after his mental breakdown and created and nail polish line, hes just getting back into rap now. MGK did no other music other than hip hop before kill shot, stay blessed, oh and MGK became a decent actor and dated Megan Fox so hes doing fine by the way 😂
