No comparison. I had hughesnet pulled out it was so bad.

Actually Hughesnet is trying. I set up a Roku TV for my granddaughter and it ate up all my bandwidth in a week. However it still connects (as does the Firestick I put on it). I guess they now have excess room on their satilittes. Still only .1 mb upload. I just got the email that my Starlink order is being filled so in a few day Hughesnet is gone.
I agree. We purchased the RV package specifically for RVing so we will be discontinuing the service for the winter months. I also heard that I should plug it in every now and then for the updates, even if there is no subscription active. I think this is amazing and is going to change a lot of people's lives who have absolutely no access to any service. Thanks for the video!

I have Roam right now as I am moving from a house to an RV in the near future -but right now in the garden with 0 obstructions I get 200-250mbps down on the "best effort" even more overnight. It's insane and the fact I can pause it for the next 4 months really does help. The kit was half price too and you can even rent it here in the UK. I also have been lucky in the last 2 weeks to have 0 downtime

Just want to clarify that the Mbps you are showing is not megabytes but megabits per second. :)
I was a camper for 30 years in NYS. It was always strange to see people come into a campsite - setup - and stay inside their camper and watch TV. You could have done that at home. I never could understand that..
I was lucky, as a few weeks ago Starlink had a special for people living in rural area in Canada 🇨🇦 at $199 plus tax for the hardware, wow I ordered right away and I will pay $140/month plus taxes. It took a few minutes to install, just wow. Now instead of 2.3 mbps I run between 40+ to 120+. Yeah, I’m a happy camper. Thank you Elon Musk…..

I sent them back the original equipment that I purchased for $648 and they have just kept it. No refund, nor have they returned it to me. It's been since April. When I paid $648 for the equipment, I assumed it was mine. I guess they think otherwise.

if you order to your home address you can change your svc address to a cottage or a seasonal camp site and have it work there
and once you upgrade to rv acc you cant change back to your home address

In our household my daughter upstairs has the residential Starlink. I have the RV Starlink. We have both set up on the roof. Should we have both set up? Or should we shut the RV one down and share the residential while we are at home. We are snowbirds and want to take our RV Starlink with us to Florida and camping. Would appreciate your input.

You must live around me i live just outside of Barrie in Springwater.I have starlink im getting most of the time 60-100 mbps download and 10-15 upload. Bell or rogers wont run fiber here yet. Rogers has plans to run infrastructure here, but I know as I work installing fiber im likely to receive it in 2024-2025. very slow process.

If I don’t have availability at my address but have a neighbor who does. Can I order standard starlink to in an availability location to an address 15 miles from me and set it up there and take it back to where I’ll be living? Will it roam that far? Asking because I live in remote area and waiting list is about year still.
My family lives in a developing country that has fiber to the home in rural communities. They are getting 100mbs and very comfortable and for free got basic subscriber TV . Starlink just a got a license to operate there but it's gonna be too expensive for those people. They are already getting value .
Correction: The router is in Dishy, the brick is PSU and wireless AP only. The wirless AP is a turd with crapy performance and suitable for close range only.
Internet is for domestic uses and speeds are very asymmetric (upload is pretty average). The internet is CGNAT and not public unless you want to pay a lot per month. The traffic is not raw and unfiltered either, certain ports already blocked.
Do you know why the app does not show the settings option? I'm in Canada and have purchased their ethernet adapter but cannot locate the settings to find the bypass mode?

Hey man, i noticed that the Starlink app went into the setup without logging in to the account. i downloaded the app myself and it's the same here. So can we use starlink with the app, but without logging in to the account? Was that how you did it?

You can change to Rv from Res but not back again. There is an unofficial way to transfer your kit on your account and manage it but it's complicated
It's fuckin expensive in India we get broadband in around 12 dollar 80 mbps.

Sorry to hear that Matt. As I said in my video at home I had by the apps calculations perfect views with 0 obstructions. But while camping the trees did severely effect my ability to get a good signal. Sorry to hear you are not having the best experience

Hello Bryan. We had issues camping as well. It was great for buffering apps like youtube. But as I was saying it’s not something I would rely on for live internet right now like teams, skype or gaming because it will drop out. For light browsing and movie night it was great. Just not there yet. I was in Iceland in 2017 and there were people camping with these small rigs and they have a lot of mountains not trees and clear skys. Almost like camping in a field. I imagine that to be the best scenarios for where the tech is today for Starlink. Also I was in Tennesee in July. We drive through from Canada on our way down and back from Florida. Spent a night there and loved it - beautiful state.

It is not megabytes it is megabits and there are 8 bits per byte. So you are 8 times slower than you thought.

It does now it's about $200 a month for global roaming.

As far as I know only Starlink mesh nodes. Can set up multiple mesh devices throughout your home.

Guess if you have no other options $140 - #170 is okay. Otherwise too much.
Being able to provide Internet on remote places is the only good side of Starlink. It's an huge effort because other providers don't care and have no intentions to expand their services to remote regions. However, the high price, the obstructions issues, the poor support and the unstable Internet (this is the worst one, every 15-20 min you loose connection, I guess due to the sat handover) makes it really bad. And what we have ahead are just promises.
In my case, where I am now, I have no option and I have to rely on Starlink. And this is it, if you have no choice, take it if you can. Anyway, if anyone is able to get fiber of even a reasonable wireless connection, I wouldn't advice to even think about getting Starlink. If you get a good fiber connection, you can have 3 times or more the speed of Starlink at 1/2 or 1/3 of the Starlink price.
The point is simple, if are about to get Internet than it must be for all-purposes. They should write in their website and warn folks that their Internet only serves buffer systems. Therefore, if you wanna a stable Internet, please don't buy it.

Skynet started out really harmless until A I became self aware. According to some in the industry, it already has. Just saying, life imitates art. How many movies in the past 20 years has turned out to be true to life years later? And acceptable? Sheep.
I look at Starlink the desperate last resort internet service. 70ms and 30Mbps is third-world speeds and latency. Not to mention "dropouts" and losing connection for minutes at a time. Imagine you're working on something for a couple hours and it even drops for one second, snap all that work is gone.
When you only get 3 Mbps 30 sounds really good
@@winnielane .. If your connection is using cellular then I would look for a directional antenna which will probably work a hell of a lot better than StarLink.
@@DJaquithFL unfortunately no, we only have access to DSL through a phone line. Plus only one bar of cell service. The tower is about 10 miles away if driving.
@@winnielane Yep.. I agree. Mine is a whopping 0.68 down 0.17 up. Yeas, less than 1 and we are paying $90 plus tax and fees. SO basically for us, starlink will ALMOST save us money. Starlink is in route to me. We signed up in August and they just offered us the best access program. ANYTHING is better than what I have now and with more satellites going up, it will only get better in the future. I know my systems are going to go into shock if Starlink only gives us your mbps of 3 you have hahaha

I have Starlink in extremely rural southern Ohio. Its on the “best effort” plan though and slows considerably at peak usage times. But it is incredibly better than the dial-up speeds I got over other providers. I waited 18 months on the list.
Just because it say no service, it does not mean that you can't have it. The cell I'm in in Florida says the same thing but yet here I am. Our places in Ohio also say the same thing but I know that there are people who had service in the area. Much of the areas where you can't get it are just over subscribed so new customers end up on the wait list. Here, it was almost exactly a year to the day from order to receiving the unit.

Rich man’s toy. This guy talks about 170 bucks is nothing. I watched another vid about this and they show pics of third world countries with shacks and they want you to believe it’s for them. These prices should be lower than cable internet. This price is almost three times more than Spectrum internet and it’s too high. I like Elon but he will eventually fail because of the high cost. I already dumped my cable tv and just use the High speed internet for 70 bucks a month and use a firestick. Look I’m not trying to promote anything else just tired of being gouged for tv and cell phones. Why can’t someone and I thought is was Elon look out for the hard working family’s who struggle to make ends meet. Have you shopped around for streaming services and noticed they are all about the same price and the same for cable company’s. It’s like they are all tied together and no one has the guts to undercut them.

I thought this was going to cost a fraction of the price of a regular internet. These billionaires surely know how to use the media to make us feel that they are doing us a favor. How does this benefit people with lower income....or people in third-world countries? Thankfully they'll be sticking with their regular broadband internet, which works for them. Guess because they don't connect their whole life to the internet.
This was always going to be the premium internet bro what you talking about? And the insane cost reflects the amount of money it takes to put multiple satellites into orbit.
Have to add to Kaine March reply.....it is much faster as well as cheaper compared to their peer satellite providers. Comparing starlink to the regular other land based providers using fiber, those providers, based off of starlinks price should be at least half of what they are now.
