With the NSX cornering speed, and the power advantage of the 3UZ-FE powered Supras, the GT-R was becoming less competitive with the heavy RB26DETT. The VQ30DETT powered R34GT-R was used in the second half of 2002 as an interim solution. Whereas the more well known 2003 car was purposely built with the VQ30DETT and trans-axle gearbox to the new chassis rules. The car handled superbly, with enough power to match the V8 powered Supras, and chassis balance to match the cornering speed of the NSX.

Officially, 2002 was the last time the RB26 engine was used in racing Japan's premier series and by a Nissan works team. Did i get this correctly? I have a scale model of that Xanavi Nismo and it would be cool to know of its significance.
この時点でRB26は10年越えているのか・・・。レースの世界で10年以上も同じものが使われて、しかも最前線で戦えたというのは異例の事だと思う。それだけ、RB26が持つ素性が素晴らしいという証拠じゃないかな？世の中は諸行無常だけど、RB26は未だに魅力的だと、オーナーとして感じるね。
レースではもう一戦を退きましたけど、未だにチューニング業界などでは根強い人気がありますよね
その証拠に未だにニスモから新品のブロックが出てるくらいですからね

So JGTC Skylines started using the VQ30 engine from this round of 2002. I thought they started using it in 2003
