- Dragons Dogma 2 Review
Dragon’s Dogma 2, is the highly anticipated action-RPG successor to the 2012 cult-classic Dragon’s Dogma. In a richly detailed and deeply explorable fantasy world built in Capcom’s RE ENGINE, Dragon’s Dogma 2 revolves around player choice, where selecting your Arisen’s vocation, combat style or desired Pawns is just the start. Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on March 22. Will it beat out Rise of the Ronin, Horizon Forbidden West, Alone in the Dark and others for gamers cash this March?

No single-player game with performance issues on launch should be labeled a “buy.” Just wait for the price to drop to $40 in a couple months and the performance will be better then too.

@ACG, after putting 5 hours into the game and seeing how underwhelming that experience was, I'm a little ashamed I trusted you to provide an honest review of a game that had not been released yet. Reviews like this are why we should all be more skeptical of "professional" reviewers even if they do have a good track record...
I mean you're probably just garbage at DD
He never mentioned that you have to spend $3 to edit your character, lol
The Fextralife reviewer for this game said that it took 20 hours for him to become fully invested (hooked) into the game. A 20 hour slow burn is something that I am most definitely not interested in. Hard pass until it comes down to half price.
This game opens up with time. The start is slow.
@@seriustraco bad optimization doesn't make it a bad game. A good game in a bad state on release is not a rare occasion. I will wait for patches, but still be happy this game is being released. Games like DD2 come out very rarely these days.
Developers: "We've built an amazing game, just needs another 2-4 months for us to iron out the performance issues and it will be a hit."
Capcom Management: "Good job but it's the end of the quarter and we want to make sure we (not you the developers, we the execs/management) get our unearned bonuses. Ship it and slap a s***ton of microtransactions that will turn the entirety of the non-brainwashed playerbase against us and the game."
AAA Industry: "Ahhhh, the system works"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it used to be that ACG bought their own copies to avoid biased reviews? That was the whole reason I subbed, so I could have an honest and fair review of a game instead of a publisher or developer "guided" review.
It's very disappointing to see several glaring omissions by ACG on the subjects of DENUVO, a DRM client that is notorious for bogging down gameplay performance in every game it has ever been in and blatant day 1 microtransaction abuse. Server side save files for characters that prohibit new character creation or recustomization without needing to pay for it.
How these and other frankly inexcusable practices and issues in a $70 game went unmentioned in this review is concerning because I feel an earlier version of ACG would have absolutely called out this or any game that had even a portion of the problems exhibited here.
You know, everyone doesn't have time to protest every, single, manusha .....sometimes, you just want to playan amazing game.

@@CalmTempestit’s about the precedent. there shouldn’t be mtx in a single player game
@@ubulayne_ What "precedent"? There is no "pre" here, this has been a thing for over a decade
@@CalmTempest my argument still stands, shouldn’t be mtx in a $70 single player game
The microtransactions really mar this game. Should be celebrating games like Helldivers more with their approach to mtx.
Dragons Dogma 1 and 2 are not skilled based RPGs. They are stat-based. You do not overcome enemies from skillful play. You simply win by having high enough stats over the enemy. Just be aware of this common misconception. This game is an absolute cake walk unfortunately.
Not even mentioning denuvo or microtransactions ? Man I started watching your videos cuz you were free to express your opinion in an unbiased manner but it seams to me that you're just now part of the system like many others.
You realize this video came out before launch. The mtx weren't knotted about by anyone yet. Denuvo, i dunno, wasn't new. They posted it on steam a while ago.
You didn't think it was worth mentioning the micro-transactions? It's been revealed that ALL early review copies came with an e-mail revealing there are MTX. You knew.
I mean, you should have known too. It's a 2024 capcom title.
If someone reviewed this game honestly 2 weeks ago and simply stated that it A) follows the Monster Hunter format and B) has very little story relative to its map's size, I would not have bought this stinker.
Absolute failure of a game despite the size of its map, secrets, exploration, etc. This game goes right up there among the stinkers in the (over-rated) looter shooter category, which are among the most pointless, waste-of-time games on the market.
It's shocking I bought the game after watching this and what a waste of money.
Comical story, no enemy variety, basic choice of weapons and armor, lazy boss fights you don't even need to hit one of them for it to die and more.
I was looking forward to monster hunter but after playing this capcom title I wontbe buying another
I am disappointed in ACG !!! You did us an injustice by not talking about the Microtransactions and not being able to play but one game with no restarting. Sad sad sad
The microtransactions did not exist during the review window.
That's every Capcom game and they're all worthless
I mean it’s capcom they been doing it for a while now but I don’t need to worry about them really there just there if u wanna cheat the game really

@@Johnny.1994 Exactly. Something like fast travel would've obviously been a new feature for DD2 that the developers wanted to include, perhaps a limited usage feature that had a cool down or something to still keep a risk of night time encounters. Regardless, it's something the men in suits decided to be excluded and kept as DLC. People who are defending DD2 and the mtx are just making the industry worse for the average gamer.

i think the problem with DD2 (and DD1) isn't the game itself per se. It's that the game design is inherently divisive, you'll either love it or hate it.
I hate it.
@@AnimaTristegood you can quit playing so I never summon your guaranteed garbage pawn
I think that's a good thing. It means it's actually doing something specific rather than trying to appeal to everyone (Ubisoft games) while not really satisfying anyone.
That's fine, not every game should flatten itself out to be all things to all people. Capcom made a sequel primarily for people who played the first one and asked for more...for ten years.
@@AnimaTristewhy do you hate it.
Tbh I kinda feel for yt reviewers since Capcom decided to add a list of MtX after reviews came out. But even so, it also kinda makes me trust the reviews a bit less.
So glad I held off on buying, as performance and MtX mean this is an easy do not buy.
Major reason the first game is a cult classic, is that most people bought it for less than $10.
Steam reviews placed it at a 2/20 in the morning and it's now a 4/10. Man did Capcom do a lot of shady stuff with this game that isn't covered in the review.

Also, how you can't start a new game once you've already made a character unless you turn off cloud save and manually delete all your save files.

Just looked at the review by Forbes. Evidently, the egregious microtransactions were detailed in the material that came with the review copy from Capcom.

The cool thing about microtransactions is that they aren't necessary and you can easily ignore them. I think everyone freaking out about them is a bit much.
This game has been excellent for me. I'm near 30 hours in and I'm loving it, I've had very few issues. I have to wonder how many of the people whining about performance on PC either A) don't have a strong enough computer and didn't bother to check the spec requirements or B) don't know what a GPU driver update is. And for the ones whining about the MTX stuff, you can obtain EVERYTHING in the MTX store by just playing the damn game. There is no reason to buy the MTX stuff unless you're gullible or so impatient that you don't want to play the game (?) - in short, people just want to whine and cry about everything these days. These blind fools didn't even bother giving the game a good test run, they saw the MTX and immediately review bombed a fantastic game.
Don’t listen. This game is abundant with micro transactions, you can’t create a new character unless you buy a dlc item, you also can’t edit your character without buying a dlc, want to edit your pawns preferences you have to purchase a dlc and the game is VERY poorly optimized. I’ve heard gameplay is fun, but that’s if you can get past the less than 40fps at low setting. Read the Steam reviews!
Summary: the things that were free now are micro transactions. Want to make a new character? Too bad, gotta shell out the green. Gotta love spending $80 on a single player game to have to pay another fee just to start a new playthrough. Don’t buy just wait for sale and after they’ve hopefully patched up the game.
they sneaked in these microtransactions right after launch. Reviewers who played before launch where left in the dark as well and caught of guard like the rest of us. Capcom is scummy and wanted reviews out first.
That's good advice on all games now a days unfortunately. Those who purchase the game for full price on day one will get THE very worst version of the game, and those this purchase it on sale a year + later will get the best. :(

You can edit your character without mtx.
There is no mtx to allow you to make a new character. That's just plain false.
You can edit your pawn's preferences without mtx.
Performance issues and no new game option are valid criticisms.
Micro transaction alert! Looks like ACG got grand turismoed again.
Yeah, for stuff you absolutely don’t need 😂 so nobody with a brain, that plays the game, is gonna buy it
I mean there were technically MTX in previous Capcom games like DMC5 and RE4 Remake. Those “DLCs” shouldn’t exist in the first place either, but at least they could easily be earned through normal gameplay and wasn’t so badly pushed, which imo is why most people didn’t care about them.
While in DD2 they took steps way TOO far that made the freaking game mechanics into micro transactions (character customization and fast travels), which seem let people finally realized their terrible monetizations.
The mtx in DD2 are as ‘offensive’ as all the ones present in the recent resident evil games since 7 and all the recent monster hunter games and the last devil may cry game, they’re not a big deal

This is his worst review by far, he has ignored some big red flags!
I've never seen so many trusted reviewers just miss on a game like this. The original must have come out at some perfect interval for nostalgia or something. One save game and no new game feature is absolutely insane. Then you have all these MTX's and performance issues for a $70 game. The camera feels awful in game. The pawns won't stfu and using B on your controller for everything is clunky as hell. Not to mention the movement is too. Takes like 30s to loot a corpse every time
It’s not necessarily a miss, many reviewers have said this game will either be for your or it won’t. And I’ve seen a bunch state that clearly they didn’t make this game for new people but for the people who loved the original dragons dogma or would love these style of games. So just cus many trusted reviewers saying they like this game doesn’t make it a miss just because you didn’t
@@TheOnlyDarias It literally says "Masterworks all" in the title. That's pretty disingenuous when you can't even have more than one character per steam account, only two saves which can completely screw you over and lose hours of progress and massive performance issues along with MTX. It's way more than just "I didn't enjoy the gameplay"
so a couple things, the first games pawns were also annoying as hell there is a option in both to shut them up, the first game also relied on 1 save file it did have a new game feature it just killed off the current character was only really used if you wanted to change sex or go from a large to small character, camera was the same in 1 its really a either you hate or or like it kind of thing, its there to make grappling monsters less nauseating.
The B button was changed from DD1 to DD2 and i have no idea why they made it a hold instead of a click and its annoying.

All the other reviews had no knowledge either.
@@madman1547This is not the first, nor will it be the last time, a publisher provides a vastly different product pre-launch to reviewers than what the general public gets access to.
This is a well known tactic reviewers are fully aware of. By not fighting against it, by simply delaying their review until they get to experience the ACTUAL PRODUCT they are supposedly reviewing, they are 100% fully complicit in it.
Reviewers are benefitting from exclusive access to a product, publishers are benefitting from their misleading reviews, and every time it happens, we hear the same tired arguments, like yours.
In my opinion, it's about damn time someone takes some responsibility for their actions.
There should be a 1080p, 60fps perfromance mode with ray tracing off for ps5 and series X. The FPS performance is diabolical. What a travesty.
Would be nice
@ACGreviews Yeah it would be. To be fair the more I have seen and understood that even on an RTX 4090 people are struggling for 60fps, so it's looking unlikely for now. I think the best they can aim for is performance stability. Capcom are normally very good on performance, but decision making wise someone has dropped the ball somewhere.
I'm starting to believe that it might not be a good thing to review a pre-released game early...
This is why Angry Joe started buying his copies when the game launches for everyone and drops the reviews later.
Yeah, it's the downfall of pumping out reviews at a corporate rate. Few people actually play games like that. Like, I may be an oddity, but most major games take me months to complete. Witcher 3, RDR2, GTA V, RE2&3, God of War etc. all took me nearly a year to beat. Few hours here, few hours there. I do like Angry Joe's reviews for that reason, he plays them over a few weeks at his own pace. Much more like how most people actually play games. Not plowing through in 2 - 12 hour sit downs or whatever, haha.
I agree, but I also don’t mind watching these videos knowing what I know now and seeing what people think on elements that aren’t MTX or performance issues. I take CZcams reviews with a grain of salt anyhow, they’re just as susceptible to corporate trickery (adding mtx after initial reviews, etc.) as any other when it’s pumped out this quick. I appreciate the more nuanced, longer deep dives where time is taken to analyze…well, any piece of media in much greater detail. I forget who made it, but there’s this really long (hours long) Oblivion review I really like, and has made me understand that game on a deeper level ❤️

Frame rate is fine for me on PC. The fact is that people are demanding photoreal graphics but don’t want to pay for the processing power which makes that possible. It’s a shame Sony and Microsoft under-engineered the GPUs on their ‘current-gen’ consoles to hit a lower price point (or maybe it’s a shame people think they should be getting 4090-level graphics performance out of a $400 console?). It’s also a shame Capcom used Denovo DRM on this game because the performance would be better on older hardware without it.

A $70 game that charges you to change your character model (IN A SINGLE PLAYER GAME, WHAT THE ACTUAL F...), can't start a new character, says fast-travel isn't necessary and you'll WANT to walk point to point but then has a $3 MTX for showing you where/unlocking all the fast travel points. Classic Capcom approach. The performance on console is hilariously poorly optimized, dropping to below 20 FPS countless times, the camera is a mess, the companion AI is barely there. The game simply isn't finished, don't buy this yet.

I understand micro-transactions have been added too late for the review to account for. This should be, however, further and more strongly be addressed, not just in a comment which will get wiped down among other comments. What I would do is make another video addressing this part and making a point that I do not endorse that part of the game, and that it's also - not as bad as it looks at first sight, if that is indeed the case. Otherwise, like right now, I feel there are a lot of doubts and weird feelings around, and mixed feelings at best. Thank you
No. Review copies had the microtransaction details. They all knew.

Sad to see your channel endorsing corporate greed. Your reviews were so good in the past.
so now that the game is out, what do we think about microtransactions in a single player game? and not just for cosmetics, also to just respec/redo your character
Non issue, the items that allow you to do that are available as soon as you enter the first town. They’re also cheap to buy so it isn’t even prohibitive.
You redo your character by spending 500 gold at the first town. Also why are people throwing such a big fit when all Capcom games even to this day have MTX shops just as predatory.

There's little doubt that something is probably wrong with me, but even after watching the entire video I still don't know how this game works. Unfortunately, "action-RPG" is too vague to give me an idea of what the gameplay is actually like.

This was my go to channel for checking out games. It's a shame that you completely omitted mentioning microtransactions. I know every review is subjective and you need to choose what to include and not include in the review, however the way this game is monetized can be really impactful on overall experience. @@PaSa7887Also I've heard the exact same arguments from micro-transactions apologists back when MTX only started to show up in multi-player games. Is there a reason the microtransactions were never mentioned? The community seems to be up in arms about them as they include a charge just to change your characters appearance or a charge to be able to revive your characters... were they not put in the preview copies given?
Not saying this to be hostile, just genuinely curious when so many reviews on this are positive but player reviews are much more angry at the developers practises.
