DIY Retrofit Shower Valve | No-Solder Plumbing | Sharkbite

  • In this video, I will walk you through the steps to install a new shower valve (Amazon - RKF Pressure Balance System) in an existing shower that has ceramic tile using basic tools! There will be no need to repair and/or replace the ceramic tile or tub surround. It’s a lot easier to just repair the drywall on the opposite side of the wall. Following these simple instructions, you will not need to hire an expensive plumber and this project was done for less than $100!
    As always, thanks for watching!

Glad I found this video. I butchered my old shower valve trying to drill out a stuck Moen cartridge and put some scratches in the brass that now leaves me with a constant leak. I have been dreading the thought of replacing it myself but didn’t want to pony up $1000 or more to get a plumber in to do the job. I had never seen Sharkbite before but you made it look very manageable. I can do this!

I was really skeptical of tge PEX line back around 10 years ago before I helped run all the plumbing in a multipurpose building for a Bible camp. I was amazed at how simple PEX made the process & now Shark Bites are even easier without the need for any special tools. And you're right you might not be a "real" plumber, & when you're talking about water & the risk of causing thousands or tens of thousands of dollars of damage & mold abatement due to a bad solder joint keeping your ego in check & knowing your skills & limitations is vital.
